Get rid of it (donate or sell) and don't worry what other people think. My MIL got us a mantle clock, which I didn't want, and mentioned that she's always wanted one. We put the batteries in it and FIL went on and on about how annoying the ticking was. After their visit, I put it back in the box & into the closet. MIL has mentioned it once in 20 years. Unfortunately, I think it's still here somewhere since my DH won't get rid of anything his parents have given us. I'm about to go through all the stuff in the basement storage and donate the things we don't want. I'll have to get my 16 yo DD to help since I know DH will want to keep everything.
