  1. I homeschool my six and have been suffering from numerous chronic illnesses over the past 7 years. I have lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, hashimotos, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and meniere's (an autoimmune ear disease that causes awful vertigo at times). My biggest issues are fatigue, dealing with pain, and dealing with people. Mornings are always tough....even when I'm not flaring. My biggest complaint is probably that people claim, "But you don't look that sick." It is so frustrating because they don't see the infusions I have to get or the numerous injections I have to give myself every week.....that make me sick....just in hopes that I will feel better. It is a tough journey....that I actually don't share with others much because when I've tried, people....even family.....just don't get it. Its not a matter of whether or not I want to do something. Its a matter of I absolutely cannot do it. I'm sure most of you can relate to this unfortunately. Thankfully, I have a very supportive husband and really awesome kids.....so that definitely makes things easier.
  2. Most likely its referring to office software...like Word or Publisher. That is what we have used for typing up final drafts.
  3. Lol. Typing on the iPad. I tried to edit, but it wouldn't let me.
  4. My dd and I are flying to GA today to visit family. There is Wi-fi on the plane so I just thought I'd say hello. It's amazing what can be done with technology these days. I love perusing the boards while I actually have a quiet moment without kiddos.
  5. I was able to get the discount retroactively. We took the receipt with us and explained the situation and they refunded the amount. If you like Microsoft office, which I do, you can get that for Mac. Im not sure I'd open office works onmac, but it might be worth checking out.
  6. I have most of my meds delivered through ExpressScripts....mainly because generics are free if we use them. I have to have some of my meds delivered anyway because none of our local pharmacies carry it. One has to be refridgerated and they packit very well with ice packs and always call me to make sure they deliver on a day when I'm home. I've never had an issue at all and customer service is great.
  7. Our pediatrician actually recommended duct tape to be worn at night after applying the Compound W. He froze them in his office and then had us follow up with the duct tape. It worked like a charm and none have regrown.
  8. We use and like Golden Valley Charter. The have a large...and wonderful....library in Ventura. Funds are used for classes and any materials you wish to order. Feel free to message me with any questions you may have.
  9. I have Page Once on my iPad for the exact reasons you describe. It takes a little time to set up with due dates, but it can import your banking data and will send you reminders via email. It has helped me stay on top of things much better. I'm pretty sure it's free, too. Just search for it in the app store.
  10. So sorry to hear about what you're going through. Autoimmune diseases can be difficult to diagnose. My journey began with Hashimotos. That was 8 years ago and at this point my thyroid doesn't function...I rely on synthroid. Two years after that, I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and Fibromyalgia. It didn't take long to get this diagnosis as I had pretty serious renal involvement.....labs alone were enough to diagnose the SLE. About one year ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, too. My rheumy says that autoimmune diseases like to come in pairs...and in my case triples. I wouldn't worry yet about being untreated. To be honest...depending on the disease, treatment often treats symptoms and not necessarily the disease itself....and sometimes it isn't "bad enough"...my doctors words...not mine... to be treated. I went for 1 1/2 years where I didn't need any steroids or immunosuppressants at all. Sadly, things didn't stay that way. I guess what I mean to say is....it will show up in a little....just be persistent in seeking care. I saw a few doctors before my SLE diagnosis....and was told it was "all in my head"...until one day I finally found a doctor that pretty much diagnosed on the spot and confirmed with labs. I know it's frustrating...don't give up though. You know your body best. What does your doctor suspect disease wise at this point?
  11. :iagree: I have lupus, too. Prednisone stinks....it makes you fat....and makes you want to eat like no tomorrow...and those with lupus are often on it long term at high doses. No fun at all.
  12. I would be interested in this as well....so I'm giving you a bump.
  13. Me....me.....me. I will be there first thing in the morning. My oldest daughter and I will be staying for the conference tomorrow and Saturyday. Is there going to be a meet up tomorrow sometime?
  14. Rheumatology should be able to give you more information. Numbness and tingling can be associated with RA, in that joint damage can interfere with nerves and such. I have had problems with this since I was diagnosed with RA last summer. RA is known to attack the tendons near joints as well. Also in regards to the swelling issues. I had very little visible swelling around the joints in my fingers when I was diagnosed, and even now really. They were extremely sore and often became difficult to move, but not super swollen. However, I'm 30 and have already developed ulnar drift and I have other deformities as well. So a lack of swelling does not mean its not RA. It could be lots of things so the best thing would be to see a rheumatologist as they will be able to best help you. I have a hard time wrapping my head around a doctor diagnosing RA with no labs or x-rays. An RA diagnosis should give you a one way ticket to a rheumatologist.
  15. There are a lot of scams on the Southern California craigslist. Most rentals are done through management companies, but I've seen the occasional by owner listings as well. Where in SoCal are you looking? We live about 40 miles north of LA. I'd be happy to send you some links if you are looking in that area.
  16. Our move was 10,000 pounds last year and we are a family of 8. We really don't have a lot of stuff though. We had two living room sets, a dining set, 3 sets of bunk beds, and a king bedroom set. Everything else was mostly books....lol.
  17. I like the Evan Moor Daily 6 Trait Writing series. It is pretty gentle and easy to follow, and more importantly, my kids like it. I also enjoy the Writeshop Primary series for creative writing. http://www.writeshop.com/store/products.php We are using Writeshop, Jr. Level D next year for my soon to be 4th graders. It has been awhile since I've used writing strands. My oldest daughter used it when she was in grades 3-5. Just another note about the Evan Moor writing, if you subscribe to their Teacherfilebox.com site, you can download the full book with that subscription. We love teacherfilebox for that reason, plus we use the vocabulary, literature pockets, history pockets, and some of the science. Hope this helps, if you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer them.
  18. :iagree: I had a several regular doctors tell me the "rash" on face was everything from acne to an allergic reaction. My rheumatologist had the rash biopsied and it was indeed the classic lupus rash....not that that's what you have of course....just things to keep in mind. So it would be a good idea to take a photo because a good rheumatologist will know as soon as he sees you. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  19. Oh...that is so terrible. I would absolutely contact the inspector. That is his job, to keep you from making costly repairs because of water damage. I'm not sure how all of that works, as we've never been in that situation, but I would definitely contact him. That also brings to mind, what if he missed something else? Maybe you could ask him to do a walk through inspection with you and your husband? Uh....I know how this feels, as we bought a money pit of a house awhile back. The problems we had weren't something that would be found on the home inspection and we poured so much money into it. :grouphug: That is such a bummer to save, save, save, and then be disappointed because of someone else's negligence.
  20. The math is terrible. From my understanding, there is no plans to change it. The only option that I know of is purchasing it independently, as the independent math uses the older program with Sadlier Oxford math....I think. If you are interested in another charter like K12, you could look at Connections Academy. We have friends there that really like it, but I have no experience with Connections....just K12. HTH
  21. I have lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. I would definitely get to a rheumatologist. I have tried every "trick" out there that I heard would help with both of these diseases. Gluten-free, fish oil, low-carb, and I could go on. The only thing that has helped me is being properly treated by a rheumatologist. I'm sure that some natural remedies do work for some people. I tried this route initially and because I didn't seek out my rheumatologist first, I have unreversible joint damage in my hands and shoulders. I developed ulnar deviation in about 6 months time and I'm only 30. Anyway, I don't mean to sound scary or anything. I just know that my rheumatologist strongly encourages treatment as early as possible because things can happen quickly. I also think it is interesting that Vitamin D deficiency seems to happen a lot with those with autoimmune issues. I have had the same issue for several years. Also, be careful about your sun exposure until you find out for sure what you are dealing with. Sun exposure will make lupus worse. I hope that you get some answers soon.
  22. Wow, Thanks! I will be checking this out for sure.
  23. Which AG are you using? I looked it up in the SOTW AG Volume 2 and it has pages for the Kingfisher Illustrated History of the World (KIHW is the abbreviation used), which should be the one you are looking for. Is your AG the revised edition?
  24. I am thinking about going. We live near Magic Mountain, too. Do you go to some of the local park days or field trips?
  25. We've had this one for 6 months or so. It is the only one we've had last this long. I went through 3 iPoints before we got this one. We've never had a problem with it other than it can messy to empty if its too full. HTH,
