  1. I have that same problem. Now I drink as many decaf and/or half-café products that I can. Recently I’ve had to switch my favorite ice tea to the decaf brand. No more soda unless it says caffeine free. I now do more juices, water, crystal light type products, etc.
  2. I have always wanted three children. We are stuck at two because hubby says he is too old at 54. I'm 43. Kids got really excited about the idea.
  3. We went all out for Thanksgiving. Christmas will be simple -Cornish hens, dirty rice, and dinner rolls. For dessert lemon meringue pies.
  4. I had to come and update. Your tracfone is not evil. It is the app I believe now that keeps turning on wifi. Mine started doing the same with the updated app. I cut wifi off, later it would be on again without my help. I finally deleted the app yesterday and no longer have that problem. Now I just use the website. Pull up a browser (chrome). Type in tracfone's website. You'll get their mobile website. Click on check your balance. Enter your phone number. A text message should be sent. I've done this twice so far.
  5. Weird – my app says version 1.3 and it is not asking me to update. Is that the most current? I have not installed an SD card but I do see where under each app in system setting it does say move to SD card. The same spot where I mentioned how to clear your cache. Did you delete some photos, videos, etc as mentioned above to free up internal storage. I just keep data off. Did you go under system setting to make sure mobile data is off there? Lol I’m beginning to think your phone is evil. Updated now to R1.6 and app loaded information just fine. I'll see what it does tomorrow.
  6. Insufficient storage - I learned that on our tablet and phone we have to keep uninstalling apps, photos, videos, music, voice recordings until we are able to install/reinstall an app. Yes, when the app gets wacky I just check balance online. I have the LG Optimus Fuel. Also try this. Click on menu, system settings, and scroll to apps. Click on an app that you use often for example. Scroll down on the app and you will see a button that says clear cache. Press that button. Do that for as many apps that you can.
  7. I just tried my app and it did just fine. The app and following text said 482 minutes, 452 text, and 1219.6 data. Of course, I am at home now. Log in to your Tracfone account. It will also send your balance information to your telephone. Make sure your phone has at least three bars. Make sure the app is current. It should come up (balance option) after you hit menu. Try removing the app and reinstalling if all else fail.
  8. We pulled a 3’rd grader and a 1’st grader out from public school. We ordered Rod and Staff 4’th grade curriculum (Milestone Books). Look at grammar books 4 through 8. They have student and teacher manual samples. This is a Christian based program. That was not a problem for us. https://www.milestonebooks.com/item/1-12494-3/?list=Rod_and_Staff_Grade_4 https://www.milestonebooks.com/list/Rod_and_Staff_Curriculum/
  9. I vote Rod and Staff. Our first few years of homeschool were with this publisher (most subjects). Teacher manual told you exactly what to say and how to teach said subject. We did the work in our notebook, orally, and on the chalkboard.
  10. I have not tried cooking potatoes in a crockpot for mashed potatoes or otherwise. However, cooking websites suggest that it is possible. Search for "slow cooker mashed potatoes“ and “crockpot mashed potatoes.†Let us know if you decide to try this method.
  11. We are using Saxon. Of course, we no longer try to do a new chapter each day or several chapters a week. Remember 30 problems are in each chapter. At least from my viewing so far. However, that may be perfect for your family. Since making that change, I don't think we will be switching.
  12. You have an awesome dentist. You and your DD are awesome by not entertaining that person. It is their loss for not getting to know you all like your dentist. I wish said person could have heard the praise of the dentist. I'm not sure though it would have made a difference in helping said person become open minded.
  13. Yes, mental math (I have no doubt.) is useful. I just don’t think it is everything. In my mind, I would much rather my kids are able to work a math problem with pen and paper, on a chalkboard, with a stick in the sand. If they had to rely on a calculator, that would make me very sad. If they can do some problems mentally, that is a good day. If they can't, it is still a good day as long as they can work as mentioned initially. We (speaking of myself as well) need to quit comparing our kids/students to other kids/students if we are going to enjoy the journey. We (speaking of myself as well) need to quit comparing ourselves to other parents/teachers if we are going to enjoy the journey. We may not get to all that others have or even do it as well as others. BUT, but that is ok now. I am seeing progress. That is what matters to me. I think math needs to be a combination because math is “mental†lol anyway. I really can't do all problems mentally. Saxon pre-algebra has two mental problems with each chapter. Right now, I think that is perfect. From my reading, I see now that some textbooks may be all mental math. I don’t think I or my kids would enjoy such a textbook. But that is ok. Isn’t that why we homeschool?
  14. Doing math in our home after any other subject or task would be a disaster. As soon as school start, we do our pre-algebra. Of course, we have broken our pre-algebra way down. No longer do we do all 30 problems plus practice problems in Saxon.
  15. I also didn't understand "going-out braids." Learn something new every day.
  16. This is great news. Light and non-rigorous is sounding better and better for the sanity of my family lol. Congrats you all!
  17. My daughter want a sewing machine for Christmas. These are my three choice. 1’st choice: Brother 17 Stitch Sewing Machine, JX2517 2’nd choice: Brother 25-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine, XL-2600i 3’rd choice: brother 14 stitch lx 3014 – black Friday ad. I can’t find any reviews
  18. Expect mistake purchases during your homeschool journey. Robinson Curriculum will be a mistake. Switched on schoolhouse was our biggest mistake. Consider Easy Grammar Plus teacher manual only. This large book contains the teacher instructions and worksheets that can be printed for each student. A $30 purchase. We're using this after coming from Rod and Staff grammar. We're using Apologia for science. However, the science selection at our library is becoming a strong contender. We're using Notgrass for history. However, many here suggest watching documentaries, Netflix, library, etc. We're considering this move. Hope this provides additional information. Outside of this post, you will find many great ideas on how to handle younger children. Search the forum. I promise you will find some gems. Happy searching!
  19. Driver's responsibility. My daughter, who is on her way to becoming a licensed driver, would never be able to tell me that a friend told her to speed and she ended up with a speeding ticket. The non-driver is not responsible and should not be required to pay. I hope the friendship is not lost over this ticket.
  20. Flexeril helps hubby most of the time. However, when his neck pain becomes unbearable the pain management doctor will give him a pack of steroids. Once that rids the knot he goes back to regular treatment plan.
  21. Yet another change in our Saxon math class lol. This week we are trying out six practice problems a day. Kiddos seem excited about our change. Tomorrow will be day three of this trial. The challenge is for problems to be free of errors. Now to see how long the happiest last.
  22. I absolutely love my 2007 ford explorer. Of course this is not a small suv. I know because car wash time is brutal. However, I love the power. I love the style. I love the roominess. I love, love, love. Never had the problems others mentioned online (reviews). With that being said, if I were in the market, it would be another ford explorer in our driveway. Maybe 2015 or 2016.
  23. Yes, I work and homeschool. At first it was part-time at home (customer service/blog writer) and now full time outside of the home as a personal care assistant. As a PCA though, the hours are flexible. It also helps that hubby is at home. He is disabled. I do the planning/prepping/teaching/grading/purchasing, etc. We double team pre-algebra. On days when I will be longer at work he will teach subjects such as science or history. Our kids are 12 and 15 now. The helpful tips found on this website will help you stay sane. The main one that helped us was quit trying to have school at home. Now that we are doing this we are seeing gradual changes and good changes.
