  1. They’ll check your breathing for signs of pneumonia and vitals for signs of needing hospitalization, but no, there’s not much else they can do for a virus. After 10 days they’ll give antibiotics.
  2. It’s definitely Norovirus. Everyone has it now.
  3. I think it’s possible she altered it herself, she’s been an amateur photographer for long enough that it would be natural to want to learn photoshop now. But your first attempts at photoshop are bad. If the pictures of her in the car are real, her face is rounder. With the prior weight loss and long recovery time, that points to Chron’s disease. I can understand why that could be embarrassing and she would want to be private. But I think at this point it would be better to simply say the diagnosis than try to hide. Plenty of celebrities have dealt with autoimmune disease and had to go to events with a moon face. I’ve rarely heard anyone comment after the explanation. Then again, the truth might mess with the fairy tale they always want to put out.
  4. One of my kids loves watching auto restore channels on YouTube. I know there is a way to get rid of the smoke, I think ozone is one of the treatments they use. I’m no expert though.
  5. We all ordered different meals and didn’t eat the same things at all. But I definitely hope it’s food poisoning.
  6. I don’t think they heat up as much as stoneware, but they’ll transfer some heat like anything else. One of my kids uses a big Corelle serving bowl to microwave something with boiling water at least once a day… oatmeal, ramen noodles, soup. You can still grab the bowl without an oven mitt, but only on the upper rim, not at the bottom where the water was boiling. The Williams Sonoma Pantryware set we have sometimes heats up more than the food does.
  7. Thanks everyone, I was able to get a little sleep and woke up feeling not so violently ill, even if I am still sick. DH & DD5 definitely have it though. Sigh. The three of us got takeout from one restaurant yesterday, the rest of the family got McDonalds. The only thing we can think is that an employee at the restaurant had it & didn’t properly wash hands.
  8. Idk if it’s food poisoning or norovirus, but I feel sicker than I have in over 15 years. I’ve only felt worse three times in my memory, and for two of them I was hospitalized. DH & DD5 have been complaining overnight too, but I don’t think they’ve had the GI symptoms I have. It’s the kids spring break and I really don’t want to have this sweep through the family.
  9. One CC I took classes at had everyone take a placement exam for writing and math if it had been longer than 2 years since they graduated or took something like the SAT. Can she do that instead?
  10. To be clear I was completely naive about the subtext when the song came out.
  11. I went to college with a girl like this. We weren’t close. I didn’t realize she was JW until she talked about it on Facebook in the last few years. She was raised in New England. Her parents still don’t speak to her. She met a man at school that was Jewish, she converted, they now live in Florida. The parents were absolutely abusive. She was told she was dead to them and that was it. Never heard from them since. She needed a lot of help to start adulting, but she seems pretty happy now, if occasionally bitter about abuse.
  12. Oh yeah, the most conservative Christian I know loved Psych. On his recommendation alone it must be tame.

something kind of similar happened the last time I supervised a playdate for my first grader. It didn’t involve a turtle, but the poor kid needed emergency dental care. The elementary school noted at conferences that both kids had been doing much better since the whole staff had been working to keep the kids apart, both in class and at recess. Apparently they egg each other on to get in trouble. 😳
  14. Oh, you might try the Hardy Boys books. Don’t get the originals, get the ones that are either updated or published on or after 1968. I think that’s when they got rid of dated offensive language and made an effort to make them as exciting as tv & movies. I don’t remember anything offensive in the ones we did as family read-alouds. The Alex Rider books & movies are pretty good too. Though I think my kids preferred the books. And the Spy Kids series.
  15. One of my kids loves Hallmark mysteries. No content concerns there at all.
  16. Yes. I just did the things and then it didn’t matter.
  17. Without disclosing exactly what the story was about, none of those things were part of the story. I agree those could be a problem.
  18. It is one of the adopted kids, but the birth family isn't much of a safety risk. Most of them are dead or in prison or live over a thousand miles away. I think one person was more concerned about my MIL, but she also lives far away. Neither DH or I are at all concerned. But after multiple comments I started wondering if I was missing something. It's like those people who say the first seal of revelation was the Corona virus. What? This isn't something I thought I should be concerned about.
  19. One of my kids was on the news. Several people have asked us if we're worried about safety. Is there some risk I'm missing? I get that putting kids on social media is a problem. But I don't see how being mentioned and briefly pictured on the news (without location) can be risky at all.
  20. I think that if that picture in the car WAS her, she’s been on high doses of steroids because her face was much rounder. Which, in combination with a long healing time and weight loss, points to Chron’s disease.
  21. Find one of those online guides from a gallery owner that explains why art needs to be centered at 52” high (or whatever the rule is), and how to calculate that, and send it to him.
