  1. I would find a teacher. Many harpists upgrade from a lever to a pedal harp after a few years. My daughter's harp teachers always knows of harps for sale in the area. Craigslist sometimes has them but you would have to know how to tell if a harp has been misused or dropped or warped. We got our first harp new from Lyon and Healy - Ouch. We are now renting a Lyon and Healy pedal harp from a harpist in the area.
  2. My son had the surgery after he broke the same clavicle for the third time. He was 16. The surgery was painful. He was back to sports in about six weeks. Got medically disqualified from military academies and his ROTC scholarship because of it. He never triggers airport medical detectors. He is 23 now and still has residual discomfort and has discussed getting the plate removed with ortho. I would get a second opinion and get surgery as last resort. We had another child with broken clavicle too and was told the bone will heal as long as both parts are in the same child. I don't remember going for f/u xrays. Hope your little one feels better soon!
  3. Your trip sounds like so much fun! We flew space A to HI a few years back when we were at Fort Lewis. It was an adventure and some of the retirees where not too happy when we showed up needing 10 seats. Last summer we went to Europe for a month with only five kids. It was great and some of the best parts were the flights on the Air Force planes. And my kids liked the USO too! We made it to Ireland because the flight over took us to Scotland. Then we used Ryan Air to get around and VSBO to get places to stay. Space a is an amazing benefit....i am glad you got to take advantage of it!
  4. This is a great topic! My peeve is the word "literally" used incorrectly. Can't stand preggers, baby bump, and now hashtag. Dick's Sporting Goods makes my boys giggle. BJs? That never even crossed my mind before. I currently live at Fort Dix and people frequently ask me how it is spelled as the snicker.
  5. Well, I didn't go to med school planning to be a slacker or a breeder or you fill in the blank. I certainly didn't go to meet a doctor, many easier ways to do that! I don't need to justify my choices to anyone. Maybe she should be glad some of us smart girls are home raising gaggles of kids. Somehow I think she would have a problem with that too. Some people are never happy.
  6. My dh is a hematopathologist and he didn't feel it was a good use of our resources.
  7. I am so sorry for your loss. My dad died 13 years ago from cancer and though it has gotten easier, I still miss him every day. In some ways it made me appreciate my llife and my children more. It has made me more understanding of other's grief and loss. I think I am a better person.
  8. That is interesting because that does not appear to be the case in Europe. It seems as if they allow the teens to drink yet have a much lower incidence of alcohol related problems. Maybe I am romanticizing it and they have all sorts of problems....
  9. I am a doctor too. I don't meet too many other physicians out there, but more than I did ten years ago. She is pro-homeschooling. She is on our side. She is optimisitic. She is presenting a positive view of home education to many, many people. That is a good thing.
  10. no nudity. My mom was a sustitute teacher at the public votech high schoo back in the 80s. She owned Ferris B. and would bring it to her classes .... Can you imagine?
  11. Yes, I have the green one in your second link. But it is my Costco mrmbership card too. Maybe some states have different cards? I am going to ask when I stop by today to get razors, and ink refills, and passport photos, and a ham, and a.......
  12. I got mine through Costco but it is green. I get Amex points I can redeem for things. I still haven't looked at the bill from Feb. That would be too good a deal me thinks. The points are pretty good. Maybe at some point in the past I chose points over the rebate??
  13. Ahhhh. OK. Now are reward points the same thing? I do see reward points accruing.....but never a check that I can cash.
  14. Why in the Feb billing statement? I must be dense here........ Is this different than Amex points?
  15. I have the executive membership. Hmmmm.
  16. I have a Costco Amex card and only get one rebate check. What am I doing wrong?
  17. The Catholics in the military are part of an Ordinariate as well. All very ordinary for us.
  18. It is after Francis of Assisi according to what I read......
  19. As far as parishes grumbling about married priests, my experience is quite the opposite. My college aged daughter did get weirded out seeing the priest at the pool with his kids when she was in her skimpy bathing suit. But that was her issue! Certainly military priests could afford a family and we are so in need as less and less dioceses are releasing priests to serve in the military. My home town priest is 88 years old and has been at my parish for 45 years. He often has to cover the utility costs from his meager salary. He is forced by the diocese these last few years to take Mondays off. No vacations, no BMWs, no fancy meals. He is the kindest, gentlest man alive. But, I have also known a creep or two. Unfortunately, saintly men like my pastor don't make headlines.
  20. I am not exactly sure who they are interviewing. I read and hear the same stuff. But in my own circles, the only people I hear expressing such opinions are non Catholics. I for one would like to see more married priests. My last parish had two former Anglican priests who were married and it was just fine.
  21. My college boy delivers pizza. He has to pay for his own gas. They deliver one order at a time. With gas prices, if the tip is less than 3.00, he is just covering his gas. Nothing more. He stands outside in the rain and snow. People don't answer the door. They order on the way home and he arrives before they do. He waits. Vicious dogs. Credit cards where people actually write in 0.00 tip. Yes, he is a college boy but is not making beer money, but tuition money. I never tip a pizza guy less than 5.00, they don't get the delivery fee!
  22. I am really spoiled in our Army housing. It is is large. it is too large. I am starting to look at post Army homes now. Our last home we owned had 2700 square feet with 8 kids. A little tight but it worked.
  23. Very Interesting. We currently live on post, but home ownership is in our future.
  24. Yes to moving Mom closer. We just moved from TX where we were very happy, to NJ in order to be close to my Mom. Is moving Mom into your home a possibility? It is so hard, I know you want the best for your Mom. My Mom is 87 and has dementia also. There is no easy answer.
