  1. I did not fill in last year's census. I only filled in how many people live in my house. I included a letter and relevant parts of the constitution. A census worker showed up and asked if I'd like to give her more info. I said nope and she left. No fine, nothing.
  2. Hmm....I keep hearing it's advanced but when I went over the samples with my daughter she flew through them. Are the samples not a very good example of the type of work involved? Should I just start from the beginning?
  3. I'm planning on switching to this and have some questions. We are already halfway through our school year, so would I start with the second reader and light units or should I start from the beginning? How many lessons are in each light unit? About how long does a lesson take? Thanks.
  4. I am doing a presentation on Korean holiday foods for my nutrition class. I have googled and googled and I cannot find out how to pronounce any of these foods or holidays. Here are the words I need to pronounce, if any of you know them...if not, where do I go?: ttok kuk, chapch'ae, pindaettok, sujonggwa, shik'e, chonwol taeborum, ogok-bap, mug un-namul, ssuk tang, aheho-tang, surich'i-ttok, chunchi-guk, aengdu-hwachae, sambok, samgye-tang, chusok, tongji, p'at-chuk,song-i, hangwa (and the various sweets that are included!), dduk gook, garaetteok. Whoo...there are more I need but here's a start. Thanks!!!!!!!
  5. It sounds like blepharitis. I would take him to an opthomologist (sp?) to be sure.
  6. The thing is, JWs believe that they are the ONLY true Christians and that teachings of Christendom (which they use this word in a negative context) are of the devil (trinity, hellfire, the Pope for you Catholics). For those of you that seriously do not want them to come to your house, the only thing that will work is to ask to be on their "do not call list". Telling them you are not interested or that you are an atheist etc etc will do no good. Also, a no soliciting sign will not work either because they don't believe that they are soliciting. Lovedtodeath,I just wanted to mention that for quite some time I was one of those who was raised Christian and turned away from God, but I was raised as a JW. It turned me away from loving God for many years. bluecalmsea edited to add: um...why do my posts always squish together? There are supposed to be paragraphs...
  7. Anyone using the current science? I'm looking into using one of these for 2nd grade. What are the worksheets and experiments like? The IG and wkst samples I saw online weren't helpful.... Which books would I need to buy and which can I use the library? Thanks.
  8. You might want to take a look at the pages here: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/index.html Do you know if the growth chart your dr uses is one based on formula fed babies, or one based on breastfed ones? There's a difference. Here's more on that: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/growth/growthcharts.html I second (3rd? 4th?) the suggestion to look into food allergies. Try cutting all dairy out of your diet and see if the eczema improves. bluecalmsea
  9. I suggest everyone leave the OP alone. What books she chooses for her children is between her and God. And for those who keep mentioning the snake in the garden....SATAN made it talk not God. I can totally see why MommyInTraining did not want to discuss this except through PMs. She is accountable to God for what she chooses, not YOU (collective you). bluecalmsea
  10. Are these any good? I'm considering the human body one. Scrounging up my own materials and ideas for experiments just isn't working anymore. thanks.
  11. Are you part of a support group? Ours had a kindergarten graduation. It was very nice! It was held at a church and the kids performed a song. They had caps (no gowns) and even a ceremony where the kids handed their parents a flower.
  12. Pam isn't Mormon. She's a Jehovah's Witness. I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong... JW's believe that before Jesus died, those who died had a chance of being resurrected to Earth, which they believe will be return to it's pre-fall state. They also believe that only 144,000 people have the hope of heaven, and others will live on the aforementioned new earth. Did I get that right, Pam?
  13. My thoughts.... I didn't have my license till last year and I'm 25!!! I don't think there is anything wrong w/ waiting. Driving is a very serious and dangerous thing. I can't even begin to tell you how many near-accidents I've been in due to other drivers. But I have much quicker reflexes now and the ability to make split-second decisions.
  14. I agree w/ keptwoman. The kellymom site doesn't say that babies under 18 mo *never* wean, just that it doesn't happen as often as people claim. I don't understand why you would be so defensive about it.
  15. I have to write a short essay for my nursing school application and don't know how. I have my essay but I don't know how to format it as I've never had to do this..... Do I put my contact info on it? If so, where? Do I double space (and what does that mean anyhow?). I haven't been in school for years and don't remember how to do these things LOL Thanks. bluecalmsea
  16. Considering that less than 10% of all drug reactions are reported, I'd say vax reactions are probably underreported, too. And of course, most drs are going to say that it's a "coincidence" if something happens to you w/i days of a shot. bluecalmsea
  17. If it bled, she should be fine. Tetanus needs an anaerobic enviro, and if you're bleeding there's oxygen (um...something like that...I' don't think I'm wording it well). Also, if there is a risk of tetanus then it is NOT a booster that you need. You would need a shot of TIG--tetanus immunoglobulin. bluecalmsea
  18. http://www.mothering.com/discussions Head over to the VBAC forum under the "Birth and Beyond" section. You'll find lots of help there! http://www.ican-online.org (I think that's the address...it's for the Int'l Cesarean Awareness Network) They have lots of helpful info. bluecalmsea
  19. Has your cat been to the vet? That's where mine got 'em. She had to stay overnight for surgery and was TOTALLY infested by the time we came to pick here up!!! I didn't realize it till a few days later, though. I had never seen flea poop before and didn't know what all those black things were... eeeew. We do not go to that vet anymore. bluecalmsea
  20. Which one for animals? Kingfisher First Encyclopedia of Animals DK First Animal Encyclopdia National Geographic Encyclopdia of Animals Which for human body? Kingfisher First Human Body Encyclopdia (how much detail does it have on reproduction, btw?) DK First Human Body Encyclopdia Now then...how should we go about studying animals? By habitats or classes? I thought I read Trivium Academy (don't remember her real name!) mention wishing she had done them by habitat. I;m planning on doing science 2 or 3x/wk. We have 2 conservation centers nearby and a lake. Would you study local wildlife just casually by nature study, or incorporate them into the main science lessons? Am I making sense? I'm probably over-thinking these things, but this is my first "official" year and I want to have my ducks in a row. bluecalmsea
