  1. I took you advice Jann and decided not to buy TT and am going with AoPS I might not finish the whole thing but it is really for fun and to challenge myself since I am starting to "get" math. I am understanding the big picture rather than micro steps.
  2. Hi I as someone who took it in 7 th grade and passed with decent scores made it to state I am here to tell you I didn't do a thing for me. I was proud when I received my Duke Tip award but guess what 15,000 other kids were awarded it in my state. I don't think colleges care about those things. People seem to always been in a hurry to write this or take this but honestly the more I advance the more I realize it's all a game and the better you can play along the rules the better chance you have. Have you dc take it it will expose them to the fun that is standardized testing ... I am sorry I am just rambling after having messed up heat another Chem problem :glare: and with less than 1 month to AP exams I am very cranky. Congrats on this opportunity for your kid but please don't stress them out it's not fun and there will be so many things to stress over latter :(
  3. If its an intense fact ridden paper 2000 is a piece of cake but if you want something relaxed 1000 should do it. My AP World class considers 1200 to be a light paper than again I hate those assignments sometimes you can say everything in a sentence.
  4. Well when I intally posted I was in a very bad mood after having typed 12,000 words for one history class. Now after having stepped back I want to edit my post. First off unschooling is not for every one. It takes a certain kind of student to handle the work and push themselves. Honestly more students are like this than you think take me for example no one makes me study for my AP exams yet I do because I know I need to. I have many friends who are blowing this off and will most likely fail their exams. Yet at the same time I procrastinate with other things so I would most likely have trouble with these things. This year I mainly unschooled with math and so far my results have been great! Yes I use a curriculum but I choose it and I do it when I want to. Sometimes I work extra sometimes I do the bare minumum. I am now going to try and get AoPS for Pre Calc and TT geometry for the summer. Math was a subject I hated but now I really enjoy. Do I love it? No Will I be a mathmatician? No but I find myself pulling out my math to work on problems because I feel like it. I am going to do an unschool expirnment this summer and will tracking it on my blog I will not be getting official credits for anything so its all for fun. After that I will tell you what I think of unschooling. I am going to use a bunch of resources so cover many subjects and hope it works. I think "relaxed" schooling is fine. Meaning you do your own thing but cover all the pre reqs with at least a bare min.
  5. I wish I could unschool! I am tired of writing page after page of things I don't care about. I love learning but I hate school (make sense?). I used to love learning about the world around me I would spend hours reading about things I loved now I just spend hours doing assignment after assignment. I used to love history and now I despise it. Why is is necessary for me to define 39 terms wih 2 paragraphs an then write 8 five paragraph essays every week? Oh that's right so that some top tier school can look at four years of hardworking and decide in 5 seconds wether I have met their "requests". Then have some teacher take two points of every grammar error on a 50 point paper! Yes I get that I can't spell well and yes I get I have bad grammar but you think it's going to help me if you call out all my errors on a public student discussion board?
  6. Also make sure to this with a scale like a pain test and give comparsions like a 10 on the stress scale. Hope I helped!
  7. She is a living breathing creature and you have evey right to be sad sometimes the death of an animal is so sad because of their innocence. I am very sorry for your loss and hope you will be able to remember your kitty when she was well.
  8. I would love to help your daughter! I love doing science expirnments unfortunately the survey is not downloading by I will tell you this I am stressed all th time followed by brief breaks of intense calm :) but then again I am always stressed its just me :001_smile:
  9. I love yu-gi-oh (can't remember spelling) I used to play with this boy across the way and he would ride up on his bike everyday and then we wold race to the park less than half a block away and directly in front of our house but it felt like such and adventure ! I remember we would climb to the top of the slide and battle one time he was so upset because I beat him and won all his cards. I remember he have me his favorite card a limited edition one worth quite a lot. But we moved and since I was young we did not keep in touch.:( I found thy card just te other day in my jewelry box. Seems stupid but it was nice To have someone to be with especially some one so nice. I am doing this on a phone so sorry for any errors

  15. OMG my sister would live a unit themed like this! I am doing this the second we finish our Jules Verne unit study. To the drawing board!
  16. I only did it for book 1 but I would love to give it to you :) I make unit studies for fun so if you have me to cover just pm me. Right now I am doing a 3 month unit study on Jules Verne studyingb3 of his major works I have some of my stuff on my blog.
  17. Well i take all my classes online and I have tried every schedule there is and dog at block works the best :) it gives me 2+ hours to work on subjects. If you like I will post my schedule on my blog. Note I am doing 9 month AP classes in 5 months so my schedule is very intense compared to other students :)
  18. If you would like to see how the classes I suggest you go to my blog: http://averagetravelingteen.blogspot.com/2012/03/what-keystone-looks-like.html You do not need to take an AP Exam to get credit may I ask what classes she is looking at. As for being competitive I can relate I tend to thrive when I am surrounded with people who want to challenge me and love (did i mention love?) competition.
  19. Keystone online high school. I go there and take 5 APs if she is very advanced put her in all APs it is much harder than honors in fact I would say it not 1/10 as hard as AP. Honors gives a challenge without the crazy workload. It trust me when she hits those AP classes she will stop in her tracks just like I and many of my peers have done. The combination of hard info and lots of course work is deadly.
