  1. "I might still have it so feel free to check back." That makes it clear I'm not holding it, and who knows...I might still have it when the wishy-washiness is over. ;)
  2. I think it's perfectly legitimate to say "No, we're looking forward to just family time."
  3. Hope in Christ, not in Curriculum was a good back to school read for me.
  4. Update: The doctor used lidocaine to numb her ear and easily pushed the earring out~it was actually anticlimactic, lol. Whew, what a relief.:)
  5. Well, that's what I'm thinking . Surely they have some type of local anesthetic at the peds. office? Ugh...
  6. Anyone ever dealt with an impacted earring? My doctor's office said they didn't know if they could take care of it but would look at it this afternoon. I'm not sure what to expect~it's my 10 y.o. She had her ears pierced two weeks ago and we were told to make sure the backing of the earring didn't touch the back of her ear. Well, it fell off and when she put a new one on she put it too close to the ear and the front of the earring became impacted overnight. We tried pressing it through but it hurt so I thought it best to wait for the doctor's advice~didn't expect to hear they might not be able to take care of it though! Hope this doesn't mean emergency room. :glare:
  7. If you want to keep it inexpensive, but don't have camping gear, you might want to consider a yurt. RedTop Mountain has one with bunkbeds and a futon; you would have to pack a cooler for food and plan on grilling. They have beautiful hiking trails and Lake Alatoona has a beach (we didn't stay at the yurt because we have a camper, but it looked great.) There's also a marina where you can rent a boat if that's in the budget.
  8. I would send two separate gifts. Some gifts that are easy and inexpensive for girls~sunglasses, hair accessories from Claire's, crazy toe socks, assorted nail polish, colored pencils and Dover coloring books, etc. My girls have given and received all of the above and they were always big hits.
  9. I just read that article and thought the same thing: I need to put some of these titles on my Goodreads to-be-read list. :001_smile:
  10. My oldest just returned from a week in Florida. While he was there, he called his 16 y.o. sister "just to talk" (made her day~her db is her favorite person in the world.) When he walked in the house upon returning, the first thing he did was walk up to me and hug me, then turned around and shouted to the little boys to come get their presents. He just graduated this year and there are so many things I wish I had done differently, but somehow, by God's grace, I managed to keep his heart and for that I am grateful. Thanks for letting me share...:001_smile:
  11. It's my middle name. My first and last names are very common, Sophia used to be rare~not so much anymore :001_smile:.
  12. My oldest has a full time job and part time job for the summer and still has time to hang out with his friends. That means he also still has time to cut the grass and take out the garbage ;). No one is exempt from chores in our house.
  13. Oh, no. Please continue to pray for this family. :crying:
  14. Baby Avery is in need of prayer. From a friend's page: "They have just started a Facebook page for those who are praying for Avery Notgrass. Please "like" the page and let the family know you are praying for them. As of 5 hours ago, they were asking prayer that the swelling in Avery's abdomen would go down and that his brain would show more responsiveness. Keep praying!" Here's a link to his facebook page.
  15. :grouphug: Did she know this before this happened? Kids make assumptions sometimes, and what seems obvious to you and me may not be so obvious to them.:001_rolleyes: My oldest has been extremely ambivalent about future plans all year. Enough so that I felt I needed to be blunt~if he's not going to school, he will be out of the house by 8 a.m. every morning at his job, or out looking for a job or tackling the endless honey do list for dh. What he won't be doing is sleeping in and living a rock star life; not in our house, anyway. It worked; he's got two jobs for the summer, but I have no doubt that if I hadn't made expectations clear well ahead of time, he'd be sleeping in and talking about finding a job someday. :tongue_smilie:
  16. My avatar is six years old. Here is a recent pic from ds's graduation.
  17. I have a friend who has gathered enough students to lure teachers she likes to her house to teach (high school subjects.) If your neighbor is that interested in teaching bright kids, I bet you could find enough to have him teach a class at your house and not have to enroll your dd in his school.
