  1. Why would you need to buy stuff after the decluttering? Joyful things stay. I have bought a few storage items for under the kids' beds for sheets to put them out of sight and a table for my printer, but that is it.
  2. Honestly, as someone who has been using her open concept dining room as a homeschool area for years, it is nearly impossible to keep school stuff from taking over. We are moving to Austin in the middle of September, and a few weeks ago we were house hunting. We listed our must haves, and my non negotiable was that school have it's own dedicated space. I wanted to have my kitchen and dining room back.
  3. Bearded dragons. When you do go buy that little lizard, don't buy one that seems "tame" or "calm". Tame most of the time in a young lizard means they are sick. They have to be handled lots to become truly tame.
  4. I love it. I am planning homeschool as I type, and it seems to have thought of everything. The feature set is very deep, though, and sometimes not exactly intuitive. Amy is always a quick email away, and once she points out how certain things are tied together it makes a whole lot more sense. I paid for a month twice to test but have now signed up for the yearly option.
  5. I do the first appointment of the morning. In and out super quick and still can do homeschool after.
  6. There is very rarely a medical necessity to kill an unborn child and dismember it for parts. It's not a straw man to point out the massive amount of cognitive dissonance needed to be okay with the former but outraged at the latter. The video may have been made under pretense of the man being from a biotech firm, but nothing changes the words that came out of their mouths in between bites of salad and sips of wine...because everyone wants their Lamborghini.
  7. if it's shipped through the usps you could let your mail person know of the mistake and the address its being sent to, and there's a good chance they could divert it for you.
  8. I had severe astigmatism and myopia though was not yet legally blind. It forced me into a fancier, more expensive procedure, but I was still a candidate. They estimated I would have 20/50 vision. At 2 weeks I had 20/30. They asked if I wanted correction for that, and I laughed maniacally and walked out. Everything depends on that consult, though.
  9. I did it about 2 1/2 years ago after hesitating about it for years. I wasn't able to read any of the chart and could not tell how many fingers the doc was holding up. I had a high-end computerized LASIK and ended up with 20/30 vision. I wish I had done it years before. All total was $3500 with lifetime touchups. Recovery was almost nothing. The next day I was a bit cloudy but my vision was already 20/50. I could have driven if I had wanted to. The only downside is that now my eyes are very sensitive to light and I cannot be outside without shades. I was 34.
  10. I finally found a specialist to take my shoulder injury seriously. I have a lot of tests and surgery coming up, but at least after 5 months it is being addressed. :D
  11. My DH was the same way. I started decluttering my stuff without preaching to him. He saw how much cleaner my areas were and how organized the homeschool stuff was and started working on his and letting me help him decide what to toss. For the first time, my dining room doesn't have random tools strewn everywhere! He can find his stuff. When she talks about taking care of your own mess and that peacefulness spreading, it really does work. I've spread it to my husband and my kids. They may not be as avid about it as I am, but it is much better than it was and still improving.
  12. I didn't have a credit history until a few years ago. Our banker suggested I get a credit history started because if something were to happen to DH it would be a lot easier if I had an independent credit history than if I tried to build it desperately in a bad situation. I have a couple of credit cards and a lawn mower in my name. Nothing huge, but the payment record is impeccable. It is really hard to get someone to give you that first line of credit sometimes.
  13. Just now, in response to an ad that contains a massive amount of information on the upgrades done to the truck: "Please let this truck be a 4x4." :svengo:
  14. Some people have never used their credit. Strange, but real.
  15. They aren't. We used the black Tics for years. We are trying the Black Warriors because the last batch of Tics I bought weren't as good as they had been.
  16. What she said. I will also add that Brother lasers are harder than heck to kill. My husband works in the oilfield and Brother is all they use any more. These printers are covered in oil and grime and things I don't even want to know about and perform flawlessly for years. Upfront costs on a laser are more, but long term laser wins. And just for fun, I printed a 750 page biology ebook twice, pausing only to reload paper. Mine never even blinked. :)
  17. I always used the black. I'm trying black warriors this year.
  18. Writing & Rhetoric has been a godsend to my girls with fear of the blank page. Really gentle and coaxes them into the program with slowly increasing demands.
  19. It's weird and depends on the vehicle. My old car was cheaper to insure just liability. My 2006 truck is actually $20 cheaper a month to keep full coverage on. I think it's a massive con job.
  20. We bought the diesel from an individual, so there was no one to trade it with. Usually we either trade or have family we're helping out, but I'm not giving away a $11,000 truck, you know? I have been tempted to see what those instant car buying deals will give us for it, and if it's enough to pay off the diesel let them have it.
  21. Elemental Science grammar stage Biology is mostly human anatomy with some animal and plant studies. There is a coordinated lap book available, as well. http://www.elementalscience.com
  22. You want to give your kids experiences with quality literature and proper grammar, not the nonsense they are surrounded with in the world at large.
  23. That's the thing, though. If all of those books bring you joy, you get to keep them. I had similar hesitancies because I have a sizable yarn stash. I did go through and there were some that just weren't joyful, and I donated or gifted them to people I knew would enjoy them.
  24. I have a truck for sale currently in really good shape. I priced it $2500 under book just to sell it, and used cars are pretty expensive here. I had a guy call and said he had half in cash and I could bring it to his work the next day. I told him that I wasn't selling for that little and I don't deliver. I had another person try to get me to give them the truck. Fell on hard times, blah blah blah. If I wanted to give it away, I have plenty of opportunities in my parish to give a truck away. I'm not giving something like that to a totally random stranger. I just put in my ad that I won't negotiate until a test drive. It's really low miles and super nice. My husband finally found his dream truck, and that's why this one is for sale. I still get requests to bring the truck to potential buyers. Nope.
