  1. You could try The Complete Idiot's Guide to 20th Century History by Alan Axelrod.
  2. The Story of Architecture is good, by Jonathan Glancey.
  3. We pulled my now-10th grade DS out of his Christian school at the semester break last year (9th grade.) He had been homeschooled 2nd-6th grades, in Christian school for 7th & 8th and half of 9th. The Christian high school wasn't a good fit for him and our family for so many reasons and he asked to be homeschooled again. It has been awesome! Totally the right decision. For second semester last year, he just did the second half of the classes he had in school, though not with the same curriculum. I wanted him to have a full year of all that he had already started...Algebra 1, World History, Physical Science, etc.

  5. I think this series is for older kids... http://www.thriftbooks.com/w/gladys-aylward-women-of-faith_catherine-m-swift/462423/?gclid=CO721rLV088CFQenaQod1rQHZA#isbn=1556610904&pcrid=70112890632&pkw=&pmt=&plc=
  6. The American Girl Felicity books take place in 1774 Williamsburg, VA.
  7. This won't help for middle school, but you may want to consider an art-focused high school for your daughter. There are many arts boarding schools...Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, LaGuardia in New York, Walnut Hill in Massachusetts, etc. We had a similar issue with my daughter (with theatre) and she was accepted at Interlochen and got a way better theatre education than could ever be replicated at home or public school. They take mostly classes in their art and a few academics each year. The academic load is lighter than normal schools intentionally because these kids will mostly audition for conservatory college programs which only care about how well you do in your art.
  8. Here's an old thread I found... http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/104750-have-you-used-suzanne-strauss-arts-books/
  9. We are using Breaking the Barrier French 1 if there are any others! We love it so far.
  10. So you want to add history, literature, and science? Any specific time period? You could read through one of The Story of the World books for history. And read an historical novel to go along with whatever time period you are doing with history. https://welltrainedmind.com/p/story-of-the-world-1-4-text-activity-book-bundle/ I like the sound of the Berean Builders science books, which cover science by time period, not individual topics. You could choose the one that goes along with your history & literature. https://www.bereanbuilders.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?display=home We like the Christian Kids Explore science books, too. They have Earth & Space and Biology for the younger grades. https://www.brightideaspress.com/shop/christian-kids-explore-earth-and-space/

  13. I think that sounds very workable! I have an 11yo boy and his sleep rhythms started changing in the last year, while he was still in a Christian school...one factor of us homeschooling again was the sleep issue...we have 2 teens we are also homeschooling and all 3 need more sleep than what they were getting while in school.
  14. The Colored Fairy Book series by Andrew Lang...The Red Fairy Book, The Blue Fairy Book, Green, Pink, Orange, Yellow, etc.
  15. Guest Hollow's Biology course uses this for labs. I haven't looked through the entire year yet, but am using this Biology course for my 10th grader. There are free lesson plans on the website incorporating this experiment book. They coordinate with the GH online Biology text. http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/science/biology/biology_lab_planner.html
  16. Works fine with a Mac...we've always had Macs and have been using TOG going on 6 years.
