  5. North Star Geography by Bright Ideas Press. https://www.brightideaspress.com/shop/north-star-geography/
  6. Not sure what Texas law is, but in MI my homeschooled kids can take the debate classes & be on the team at our local PS.
  7. We love TOG and have used it for 7 years. Have never used Biblioplan. Their writing program, Writing Aids, can be a stand alone curriculum, but you need to come up with topics. If you use it with TOG, each week gives you topics. By topics, I mean WA will tell you how to do a Literary Analysis (or Book Review or Compare/Contrast, etc) and give you graphic organizers but you would need to give the student the idea to write about. TOG will give you history, Lit, Bible or Church History (depending on the year), arts/activities, maps, timeline, vocabulary, government, philosophy. Can be use K-12th grade.
  8. Try Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan. They also have a boarding high school with a good MPA major.
  9. Christian Kids Explore series. Easy to understand, fun/easy activities, coloring pages, interesting, worksheets.
  10. We loved Christian Kids Explore Earth & Space. Easy to understand, worksheets, coloring pages, and easy experiments/activities. One of our favorite science years!
  11. We looked into this a few years ago for my daughter (who has since decided not to pursue culinary arts). The local career tech center has a 2 year hospitality program, which you cannot get into until junior year. The local comm. college also has a well-known hospitality program with its own restaurant. And yes, from what we found out, your daughter will need experience before a culinary arts school will accept her.
  12. I'm in Michigan, so maybe it's different in CA, but the local public school just gives out work permits, no questions asked. 3 of my kids have gotten them with no issue.
  13. We are doing it twice. It's a free practice test for my son, so why not? It helps that the school is only 2 miles from our house. And I like to see how he's doing compared to other 10th graders, and give him plenty of experience in how standardized testing works.
  14. My artist background is theatre (my daughter), not visual art, so maybe my experience is different, but...in the acting world, the college/conservatory you attend is important. Casting directors pay attention to that...they want to know what kind of acting education you received, as different schools teach different types of acting methods. So people from better schools often get preference. And in my daughter's case, her audition was the main thing...academics were secondary. Good thing, because she also attended a performing arts boarding high school, which was very arts focused, as opposed to academically focused. So she graduated with only 2 history and 2 science credits, for example. If your daughter is really committed to an art major then I would load up her transcript with art classes.
  15. Common Sense Media has book, movie, and video game reviews. From both kids & parents. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/#
  16. The Church in History by B. K. Kuiper might work. Great book. https://www.christianbook.com/the-church-in-history/b-k-kuiper/9780802817778/pd/2817777
  17. Take a look at the Christian Kids Explore series, by Bright Ideas Press. They have Earth & Space, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Creation Science. There are experiments if you want, but also coloring pages and other activities (word search, crossword puzzle, etc) which add interest without the work of an experiment. It was easy enough for me that it got done and the kids learned a lot and liked it. And it's inexpensive. https://www.brightideaspress.com/product-category/science/
  18. Christian Kids Explore Physics... https://www.brightideaspress.com/shop/christian-kids-explore-physics/
