  1. You could add in art or music, making it from the same time period you are studying. Also a Shakespeare storybook, like "Tales from Shakespeare" by Charles and Mary Lamb. We used "Trial and Triumph" by Richard Hannula, too, which is biographies of famous people in church history written for children.
  2. What about a DVD drive for the laptops? Or would that be considered an accessory? Or how about wireless headphones? TV?
  3. Beautiful Feet Books has a horse unit study. Most of the books coukd be found at the library, if you didn't want to buy them. There are some Bible memory verses but you coukd skip those. http://www.bfbooks.com/History-of-the-Horse-Pack
  4. You could look at book reviews on Goodreads. Some are great, some aren't. Or movie reviews on Plugged In Online.
  5. I believe Sister Wendy's art videos are on YouTube so you could preview them.
  6. "The Story of Painting" book and videos by Sister Wendy Beckett.
  7. Maybe she'd appreciate studying a woman artist? Mary Cassatt, Frida Kahlo, Berthe Morisot, Georgia O'Keefe.
  8. You could go through SOTW again but add in different books/activities this time and have your older ones read more of the suggested extra books. Or you could have your 9th grader do his/her own thing with The History of the World series by SWB, while the youngers do SOTW.
  9. We liked Prima Latina by Memoria Press.
  10. You can buy a Study & Teaching Guide for The History of the Ancient World from Well-Trained Mind Press. As a download it's only about $20, though you can buy the print book for about $40. If it's set up the same way as the one for The History of the Medieval World, which my 10th grade daughter is doing this year, it will have an identification section entitled Who/What/Where, a section of Comprehension Questions, a section of Critical Thinking, and a section of maps.
  11. I was going to suggest Christian Kids Explore Chemistry, which is geared for 4th-8th grade. It's by Bright Ideas Press. Not sure if you could work around the Christian parts or not. https://www.brightideaspress.com/shop/christian-kids-explore-chemistry/
  12. Jim Weiss has done lots of audiobooks and Well-Trained Mind Press sells them.
  13. Has anyone ever done this? I plan on doing History of the Medieval World first semester and History of the Renaissance World second semester. There are 5 parts with 85 chapters in HoMW, so if we did 5 chapters a week for the semester, we could get through the whole thing. That might be too much for my 10th grader, with the corresponding questions and maps, so I was thinking 4 chapters a week, which would be 72, which means cutting out 13 chapters. Is it better to cut out a few chapters from each of the 5 parts or to cut out a whole part? Any thoughts or advice? Thanks.
