  1. We have used it for years with 2-7 and my older ones then did a couple of years of CLE literature and English for the upper grades. The grammar lessons are thorough and this has helped with latin, SAT, ACT and other subjects. The price is really reasonable too.
  2. They are similar. I have both and regret buying Process skills in the upper grades since i-excel was cheaper
  3. Both DS and DD did Clep history 1 and 2 using REA clep book and CD/online and instantcert and did well. This was after a regular high school US history course.
  4. Thank you! You know, I have a number of these on my shelf so we'll start right away.
  5. Thank you so much everyone for these great ideas. How do I find the steps to problem solving? Are there standard steps? We just wing it ;) kind of what strategies to use, is there a pattern, is there another way etc. ?
  6. My 8 yr old son spent this past year in outside school for the first time. He tested into 6th grade math and did well in it though I think he will do well with a review before going onto the next level, especially since he is so young. We had used MM and life of Fred prior to that. We also have some apps like hands on equation, dragon box that I can use but we consider these extras, not the main thing. I'll like suggestions on fun review ideas like board games, apps, books etc that will reinforce 6th grade and above skills. While in school, he used Prentice Hall course 1 which we won't be using and we plan to continue from where we left off with MM. However I am also open to ideas about other curriculum that might fit better. I know a lot of MM 5 is repetition of what he has done in Kumon or school. My main reason for wanting something fun, challenging and different for a while is that over the last year he has gradually lost his joy and love of learning. In the past though he sometimes found his work challenging, he approached it with a better attitude and a desire to figure it out. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks I will cross post to the accelerated learning board as suggested. I was wondering if there were any other math concepts/lists worth MEMORIZING while he is still young. He understands the concepts and can apply them but maybe somethings may be worth having at the fingertips so to speak. Kind of like understanding the basic four operations and memorizing math facts- we learned the concepts and applied them, then memorization came easily and has helped with speed and access to other math topics. So we are on the same page in terms of learning. This has been very helpful in clarifying things and exposing us to programs we did not know about.
  8. Any ideas on curriculum choice. Should I continue Math Mammoth 5 and 6? Or move on to something else? We have the muggins games so we will play that too. He has had his 4 operations memorized for a while and I wonder if there may be other math things worth memorizing before moving on. Anyone used MEP and have ideas on where to place him? Thanks
  9. Thanks. We will start with the beast academy 3 series while looking into other things. Thanks for the links.
  10. Thanks, I'll look into it. Will it work for 6th grade. We have a few beast academy books but did not have the time to use it during the school year but now I wonder if it will be too easy. I want fun but want him to learn too since we traditionally school year round and his older siblings will continue their studies.

  12. Thanks for posting about lure of the labyrinth. I have never heard of it.
  13. I agree. My older son used singapore from book 1 through additional math and it gave him a freat foundation and confidence in math. He went directly to calculus at the community college and felt some of the early topics were review. The cost can be a deterrent but using it for 3 children makes it a good investment.
  14. We love khan academy and have used it for math, science and recently economics.
  15. I bought it at that price a couple of years ago too and the books are well done.
  16. We use tutors for Latin and French. Both tutors select the textbook and assign work for the week. They go over the assignments and do oral work during class. For french she also assigns video and audio recording to be listened to and recorded before the next class. We do extra grammar/ vocab practice in between.
  17. We love the factor samurai app and it helped solidify primes. My son plays it as often as he can ( most weekends).
