  1. Agreeing with others that your DH needs to give them a date. A firm date. Put it in writing in the form of a resignation notice. The Pastor was out of line saying what he did from the pulpit. He should have arranged for a private meeting or phone call with your DH to discuss the matter. I have been a volunteer at my church since 2008, first on the worship team, and also as the building's custodian. If my Pastors have an issue to discuss, they do it with me in person, not as part of the sermon from the Sunday morning pulpit.
  2. Yep. The person I know seems intelligent, is a good human being in general, and an elder in the church. He believes the moon landing was faked and is a flat earther.
  3. You can definitely use lime juice instead of the vinegar and it will still be safe to can. 🙂
  4. It sounds like he needs some help to change his mindset from one that expects failure to one that sees possibility. One of my mentors has a book for teenagers about this very thing. He wrote this book with his teenage daughters, so he really got into the mind of a teenager. Maybe something like this will help him- it's available on audible of he's more into audiobooks than physical books. Your New Playlist by Jon Acuff.
  5. Here is the recipe I use for Peach Salsa from the Ball Blue Book. There are no tomatoes involved. from Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving makes about eight 8-ounce jars 1/2 cup white vinegar 6 cups chopped pitted peeled peaches 1 1/4 cups chopped red onion 4 jalapeno peppers, finely chopped 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped 1/2 cup loosely packed finely chopped cilantro 2 TBS liquid honey 1 clove garlic, finely chopped 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper Directions: Prepare canner, jars and lids. In a large stainless steel saucepan, combine the vinegar and peaches. Add onion, jalapeno peppers, red pepper, cilantro, honey, garlic, cumin and cayenne. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and boil gently, stirring frequently, until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Ladle hot salsa into jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace, if necessary, by adding hot salsa. Wipe rim. Center lid on jar. Screw band down until resistance is met, then increase to fingertip-tight. Place jars in canner, ensuring they are completely covered with water. Bring to a boil and process for 15 minutes. Remove canner lid. Wait 5 minutes, then remove jars, cool and store.
  6. It's SO good with the cilantro! Peach salsa is my favorite, and I'm waiting impatiently for my peaches to ripen on the tree so I can make some. You can definitely make it without, but it really enhances the salsa, imo.
  7. This is amazing! I've enjoyed school so much the last few years. Figuring out adding schooling to my schedule was an adjustment for the whole family, but it's been worth it so far. After graduating in May, I decided to keep going and transfered to a university where I can complete my bachelors and also continue with my masters if I decide I want to keep going. You'll do great! Are your classes in person?
  8. Yes. When something DH says or does really tickes me off, I rage clean. Usually the dishes, followed by cleaning the rest of the kitchen. I have also been known to rage clean at work.
  9. At my store we let high school kids get by with just two evenings a week, and definitely accomodate for kids with activities. We allow temporary time off for up to 3 months for a sport, play, or other activity. Kids who want to work 20-24 hours a week get the hours, and kids who only want to work 6, get their hours. Wa have college kids who worked for us in high school come back and work summers, Christmas, and other breaks as they want. It works out fabulous, as our full timers like to take more time off around the holidays and in the summer when the college kids are around to pick up those hours. If you can find the right work culture that wants to invest in young people, your child's first job can be much more than just a few dollars in the bank account.
  10. I couldn't give pedicures, be a shoe salesperson, or a podiatrist. Feet are gross. I don't even like looking at my own feet when I'm wearing sandles. When DH and I are sleeping, if our feet touch in the night, it wakes me immediately and I am super squicked out.
  11. My best friend in college had practically no hair by the time he was 21. It didn't take him too many years to decide to embrace the baldness and just start shaving what remained. He did not want to be a 25 year old with a 65 year old comb-over. The look has always suited him.
  12. Any updates yet? I keep hoping I'll pop on and see a good update. 🙂
  13. I feel like there should be a way that you could use an ipad and have each person entering the space type in a unique number and it would check them in and out. A numerical check in system? Not sure if there is such a thing as a free one, but maybe?
  14. If an order has been archived it won't show up in your history. I don't remember how to get to the archived orders, but they stay in the archive unless you "unarchive" them at some point. I archive orders during the holiday season. Since 4 of us use the account, I utilize that to hide gifts, as no one else knows to do that.
  15. That space is beautiful and I hope you get this house- it sounds perfect. I really like the white that's in the photo with the wood floors. I think adding the beams to the ceiling will look nice, but if you went with wood-colored cabinets it woud be too much wood.
  16. Commiseration here. When I started working full time in the restaurant, I didn't want to cook at home every day, let along come up with meal ideas and grocery shop, so we tried Hello Fresh, and that worked for a while before we got tired of what they were offering. When I added full time school to my docket, I added Hello Fresh back in because I had no brain power left to do anything about food, only, they still needed to be prepared! One night I was looking at the hours of schoolwork I had in front of me when DH asked about dinner and I kinda snapped and said that I bought Hello Fresh meals because anyone could pull one out of the fridge and make one. So he did. And it was terrible, because he's not an amazing cook and that rice was crunchy and the squash was undercooked too. Blech. Anyways, after that, we tired of the meals anyway and canceled. Instead, I contracted with a cleaning service to clean my house every other week, and that was the game-changer for my mental health. I was getting weighed down by needing to come home from work, tackle my schoolwork, and do housework PLUS come up with meals. Dinners became very simple affairs, plus since it was just DH and I, we simply needed to communicate what was going on. We have been eating a lot of bagged salads, sausages, etc. If I am at work over dinner, he is on his own to find something to eat. If one of us feels like cooking, we let the other know what we're making. Now DD is back home AND her BF has moved in with her. He seems to have peculiar tastes, so we're really just in the "I'm making XYZ for dinner, so help yourself if you want" phase. Right now DH works out of town M-F, so I find myself eating a lot of cereal or eggs for dinner. I'm ok with that for now. It doesn't make a lot of dishes and I don't go to bed hungry, so it serves its purpose. This week I made a batch of sloppy joe for Sunday's dinner, and I've eaten it ever since.
  17. Ours looks a lot like the one pictured. We currently use the drawer for meats, cheeses and celery. Celery because the dumb produce drawers inside the fridge are not long enough to hold a bunch of celery. The drawer has optional dividers and we used to also lay wine bottles in it to chill. Haven't done that in a while. Lately I've been thinking about reorganizing the fridge and using that drawer for beverages. I wouldn't say the drawer is a must-have. I don't hate it, but I don't love it and could live without it for sure. The french door top and freezer on the bottom however, are the components that I never want to be without.
  18. This was going to be my suggestion! I would also add The Incredible Journey. Either the original 1963 version or the updated Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Both are fun family movies.
  19. We also always use the expanded version for just three players. Makes it so much more enjoyable. Our favorite way to play is with Cities & Knights, but we will often add in Seafarers (at the same time as Cities & Knights) for fun. There are some variations in Seafarers that are really enjoyable- one scenario has you build a portion of the board upside down, and you flip them over when someone builds next to it. It's a fun way to keep you guessing. Explorers & Pirates did not enhance the game enough to make them worth buying and adding to our collection, in our opinions.
  20. I just completed a pair of associates degrees at 45. I work in fast food, and certainly don't need the degrees to acheive the highest level of employment and pay that I will be receiving in the next year. I went back for the first degree to complete the one I'd started many, many years ago. I work with kids every day, encouraging them in life. I had one conversation with a college student who dropped out with only one semester left before completing his bachelors, and at the time it was really ironic that I was encouraging him to go back when I never did. So I did. It was satisfying to finally graduate and have that degree, and then in a very brief moment of uncertainty for me, I decided that if I ever wanted to leave my current situation, I wanted to be able to make an advantageous move and a degree was going to make that possible, so I went back for the second one, going full time while working full time. It was a lot, but one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. If money were my motivation, I could leave my job and make a vertical leap to another organization for a significant pay raise that the degree affords me when combined with my years of experience. If your friend has credits from her first attempt at college, she will probably be able to use them if she contacts the school. I was able to use 23 year old classes to complete my first degree with just 5 credits.
  21. If you go onto Zillow, plunk in Wisconsin and take all other filters off except 20 acres, it brings up properties all over, but most of the "affordable" ones are in those towns you've never heard of, hours away from any major city. Mellon, Edgar, Danbury, Cumberland, Sarona, etc. Here's one that looks amazing in Cumberland: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2630-6th-St-Cumberland-WI-54829/104918221_zpid/
  22. I found one on Zillow nearby that is 19 acres with a 1500 sq ft home listed at 949,000. The listing doesn't tell how much of the land is tillable, but it's all home, barns and outbuildings, with tillable land that is currently rented out. No timber, ponds, etc. If you go really rural in the state of Wisconsin- especially the northwoods- you can find such a property for under $500.
  23. This is amazing! Maybe it's time to think about a souvenir stand.
  24. Last week was graduation week here. I graduated with my AAS in Hospitality Management with a 4.0 and DD graduated with her BA in Dance, Summa Cum Laude. I'm well positioned for my next step in my career, which will be running our teams new restaurant when it opens early next year. I'm currently debating pursing a Bachelor's in Organizational Leadership. DD has her sights set on a particular dance studio to work at, but wants her summer free, so she's holding off on actually applying for a little while yet. If that studio doesn't pan out, she has a pecking order for area studios she could work at. She's making lofty plans to move out in the fall with her BF, so I sure hope she decides to apply sooner rather than later.
  25. Did anyone here watch Bath Crashers when it was on HGTV? I went to school and graduated with Matt Muenster. I also stayed in a hotel once where Motley Crue was performing (and then the band stayed there afterwards). I was maybe 14? Anyway, I went to the pool area by myself and went and climbed into the hot tub without really looking at who else was in there. It wasn't long before I realized the people on the other side of the hot tub were staring at me, as if they were expecting me to say or do something. I did not stay there long at all.
