X- rays don't show ligament damage, if that is what they said I would not continue with them!

If I have a Vitamix, do I need a food processor?
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in The Chat Board
So different blade options sounds helpful. Any specific models you recommend? -
What can a food processor do that would be handy, that a vitamix can't do? I have never had one but am starting to cook more and want to make it as easy as possible to add lots of vegetables! Thanks.

Sounds like most vote for the wall! Now to figure out where to put it. I do think we will look at it more and it will make more sense to visually see the whole thing at one. Thanks everyone!

This is obviously not an education wrecking decision, but just wondering if you have opinions on which works better? We have a timeline book and a set of wall timelines and i don't think we need to use both...

I think this is exactly it! (the last sentence of your post) Which math programs do you recommend for a student like this? She did Math Mammoth 3-4, then Saxon for 2 years. I don't really know how to figure out exactly which topics are causing her problems. With fractions, I do know she can not remember when she can leave the denominator as is and when she needs to make them the same.

My dd is a rising 7th grader. She just completed Saxon Course 1 (I think this is the school version, she would then do Course 2 and then Course 3 and then algebra). I thought Saxon was good for her because she is a weak math student and needs review. But I have noticed that by test time she has all the concepts muddled together and can't separate what to do and when. Not on all topics, but I have expecially noticed it on anything algebraic and often with fractions. I am wondering if maybe there is a better math program out there for her. She attends a hybrid school that uses Saxon, prior to that she used Math Mammoth. Just looking for ideas to consider before we struggle through another year of Saxon!

What does your 10/12 year old do to stay busy in the summer?
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in The Chat Board
So many great ideas. I am starting a summer folder and keeping ideas in there and these will all help. Anybody have any particular art programs or science kits they recommend? -
I have a 10 year old boy and 12 year old girl who just finished school last week and are already wandering around looking lost or with their eyes glued to a screen. I need ideas! What do yours kids enjoy?? Any ideas for at home? We will do field trips and lots of swimming but I need things for the rest of the summer to keep them busy but with more purpose than staring at a screen. We will also be doing math and reading. thanks!!

We had yellowjackets inside an opening next to our front door. We couldnt get rid of them and had to call an exterminator. It was $150 and they gave us a guarantee and had to come back out one additional time.

If your dh wears dress shirts to work every day . . .
lamolina replied to Jane Elliot's topic in The Chat Board
Do you actually get the dress shirts dry cleaned? Or do you take them to the cleaners and they launder and press? Just wondering because if they launder and press how would that help them last longer than washing at home? I sometimes have my husband's pressed but have never had them actually dry cleaned. -
crisis pregnancy centers as portrayed on Full Frontal

Everytime I had an ultrasound or checked for a heartbeat during pregnancy at my OB/GYN, I am pretty sure they said baby, and not asked if I wanted to see or hear my fetus. -
What to do when math doesn't "stick"??
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I believe the books we use are the school version, where 7/6, 6/5, etc. are the homeschool versions? They do every lesson but not every problem. They typically are assigned the odds plus 5-7 selected even problems. They also do the power ups. Thanks to so many of you for great ideas. I have some work to do to get to the bottom of what is going on! -
What to do when math doesn't "stick"??
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I wondered about test anxiety, as this has happened in other classes. She doesn't seem to be nervous and says she isn't. But yet she consistently gets between 50-70 on math tests. We will do some reviewing over the summer, to help her and to see if I can get a better idea of what is going on. -
You all have been so helpful with choosing math for my son, now I have the opposite problem. My daughter, finishing up 6th grade, needs some math help. She attends a homeschool hybrid so she does her math lesson teaching there and then I help her with assignments during the week. She seems to do fine on the assignments, seems to understand most lessons with some help from me, but then when test time comes she typically does pretty poorly. She seems unable to keep the concepts straight. I feel like her grasp of many topics is tenuous. She uses Saxon, and is just finishing Course 1. Would you let her continue into Course 2 and see how it goes, switch to a different curriculum, or something else?? Thanks!

Thanks! Lots of great options, I am sure at least one will work.

Where does AP Spanish come in the lineup?
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thank you so much!! So much great information, now just to figure out what might work for us! -
Where does AP Spanish come in the lineup?
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Now I have another second question to go along with this. My son is finishing Spanish 3 and his hybrid school has decided not to offer Spanish 4 as he would be the only student in the class. If he were to take a dual enrollment class, what level would typically come next? I really just want him to have 3 consecutive years of Spanish on his high school transcript. Also are there any other options that you know of for Spanish 4? I can not teach this as his Spanish is way past what I know. -

Thanks, this is exactly what I needed to know. Looks like he will do Spanish 4 next year and then decide on AP. -
AoPS Pre Algebra or Algebra for 2 years?
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
Thanks everyone! I learn so much from everyone's ideas and perspective. I have ordered Beast Academy 4 and we are going to go through that starting this summer, hopefully we will be able to do 5 as well depending on timing. I think that will still allow him to start algebra in way less than 3 years but still have a strong foundation. We shall see how it goes!! -
i'm wondering this same question for a child who has just completed Saxon Course 1, which is their 6th grade math. She is a somewhat average to weak math student and I am thinking about doing Beast with her younger brother. I thought it may be a good review for her and also a new way to look at things that Saxon definitely does not do!

STEM track requires/suggests algebra in 7th??
lamolina replied to lamolina's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I love the idea of just trying this year with Beast Academy. We may actually start over the summer and see how that goes. We did some Beast back when it first came out so he will remember that and he did like it. Thanks for talking me through this! So hard for me to remember I don't have to to have every single step decided right now!
