  1. Ugg. Wow. That is way over the top. At what age does grandma plan to stop bathing with dd? That is just plain weird. What does FIL think? That is way to bizarre for me. Has this happened before? I feel like I'm babbling. This blew me away.
  2. Wow. That makes me appreciate my MIL. Are your dh and his dad close? That would be tough.
  3. I would be very unhappy. My kids don't ride with any driver under 18. I don't care how good of a driver or kid they are. They simply are not experienced enough to drive my child.
  4. I would set up or expand libraries in poor neighborhoods. They would have plenty of books, but also educational toys, games, and puzzles. There would be tutoring and enrichment classes year round. Someone to help with college advice would be great too.
  5. Awwww. I love babies! Congratulations! :hurray:
  6. No kidding. The hypocrisy truly amazes me.
  7. But somewhere, somehow there has to be a start. I bet there are significantly more people aware of the issue today than there were last year when Colin Kaepernick started his protest. Really, the protests won't make a lot of waves until more white people become involved. If that happens, the momentum toward progress could take off.
  8. I've never understood this either. What is the point of playing the anthem before a sporting event?
  9. I completely support their right to take a knee. It's a completely non-violent protest. That's the kind of protest we need. I/m surprised at the level of hostility toward the players. Maybe many of the people who have a problem with it don't really understand why they are protesting to begin with.
  10. Virginia grows a lot of the country's tobacco so it's not surprising they have more tobacco use. Kentucky grows a lot of tobacco too, but the culture here is definitely changing, at least in the cities. In the cities, most public places do not allow smoking. In the small towns, I'm sure it's much more common.
  11. Sure. I used the men's room just last week at Wendy's.
  12. I've realized the world isn't nearly so black and white. Most issues have so much gray. I'm more tolerant of people of people who think/act/look differently than I do. I'm far more patient.
  13. If the adult refuses to admit there is anything to apologize for then focus on the kid. Assuming you agree an apology is in order, then I would explain to the kid, yes you deserve an apology but adult is not willing to do that. So how do you and kid move on? What does the kid want? Does the kid want a relationship? If so, decide under what terms and what is acceptable to the kid. If kid is not ready for that right now, I would accept that and let her set the boundaries for interaction with the adult. After you and kid decide how to proceed based on what kid is comfortable with, I would explain to adult one time what is going to happen. After that, I would say "We've already discussed this. Maybe in x number of weeks or months we can revisit the conversation." Kid is 11. I would protect her and stand by her decision while gently encouraging whatever level of interaction she is comfortable with and hopefully move forward from there. I would not force interaction at all. Good luck! Sounds like a heartache.
  14. I just noticed your kids ages. Is this a 6th grader? If so, the adult definitely needs to suck it up. Show the kid some grace, apologize, and do what it takes to have at least reasonable relationship. The adult should lead the way with a 6th grader. If the adult is making an honest effort, I would encourage to child to forgive and move on.
  15. How old is the kid involved? I would at least try to avoid the kid and adult being around each other. But, I would go to great lengths to avoid the other adult whenever possible, Life is too short. Have you asked the kid how to make things better with this person?
  16. Just out of curiosity, who did he think would take care of his patients?
  17. I've never understood this. What is the difference between renting a movie and seeing the same movie in a theater?
  18. I downloaded the form, filled one out for each class, printed each form and signed it. I organized the classes by grade in the same order that was on the transcript. Then I scanned every form and saved it as a single PDF file which I emailed the NCAA. I had no idea if everything was ok since her coach didn't request anything until this spring. We got an email a few months ago saying she was qualified.
  19. Do you know when they changed the form? The CCWs on the website look like what I submitted last summer.
  20. I sent everything as one file too and didn't have any problems. Maybe that is the key.
  21. Did you print out the core-course worksheets, sign them, and email them all in?
  22. AP Environmental Science and AP Human Geography are good choices. Both very doable for a studious 8th grader.
  23. Power of Place isn't a complete course, but it's a nice supplement. And it's free. http://www.learner.org/series/powerofplace/
  24. I'm been thinking about this a lot lately. Many people don't really discuss issues with anyone of a differing view point and many only listen to and read about people with similar view points. So, how do we start to at least talk about things and more importantly listen to others? I read this article and think she may be onto something. Would more family dinners lead to more civil discussion? What do you think? http://www.kentucky.com/opinion/op-ed/article161504558.html
  25. Ours get one when they turn 16. FAR after all their friends. :tongue_smilie:
