  1. I am so glad I popped on tonight. I have been looking for something like this for our sons. I just signed up - YAY - thanks for posting.
  2. I was not sure where to post this request or if it is allowed - please delete if not allowed. My DS, 16, has been homeschooled since 1st grade, but High School has been hard. We are trying to find an all-around tutor for him. He can get very resistant to working with me but does well working for others. Ideally, we would love to find a teacher/homeschool parent that helps him with writing (and other subjects) and overall academic accountability. I am happy to help behind the scenes, but he benefits from working with someone other than me. If you are interested, or know of anyone, please DM me - we plan on paying this tutor and we are hoping to help him build a positive relationship with someone who can help him get through HS. He is a little behind grade level but very capable (and unmotivated - to work with me). He has some attention issues, but is a fun, playful and kind kiddo. Thanks!
  3. Thanks ... where should I post? I would love a writing tutor - that would be a great start. Should I cross post on the SN boards, others?

  5. Thank you for the reminder that many of my kids' behaviors are age appropriate (and especially frustrating). They are supposed to push boundaries in the teen years - that is what I keep telling myself. At times, I feel like I have failed because they keep pushing and pushing, but it is normal. It is my job to stand strong and hold firm while also being open to discussions with them. It is not easy, at all!
  6. When Breath Becomes Air The Running Dream A Year of Yes Make Your Bed
  7. Everyone, I am looking for a list of Online AP Classes. I reviewed the Master List of Online Classes but did not see a section for AP classes. Does anyone know if such a thread exists? I searched and did not find one (but 'AP' is short and hard to search). If there is not already a thread - can you post the 'school's that offer AP classes? Online AP Classes are Offered Through: PA Homeschoolers Memoria Press Athena Academy
  8. Another good resource is home-storage-solutions. I have found resources only work if I actually do the hard work of cleaning, throwing out and organizing. I sure wish reading about organizing made the house magically tidier!
  9. Sorry .. to derail the thread Homeschool Spanish Users - are you having trouble scheduling classes. When I try to schedule a class almost nothing is available. Thanks.
  10. My Dr. said it is absolutely menopause related! It will get better, eventually. I am still waiting! I normally experience 5 - 7 days of this nonsense monthly or every 6 weeks. Her recommendations were: (however, she also said, it just is what it is ... there is no real 'cure' but a few things may help) Take a tiny does of melatonin (less than 1mcg) Cut back on carbs - they cause insulin spikes/drops Exercise Magnesium
  11. Everyone, I have seen people say they use a French Tutor - I am looking a recommendation of an online tutor. I am not looking for a class. What sites should I visit to look for a Tutor (Verbling, iTalki, TakeLessons?) What questions should I ask the Tutor? What is important to know to have a successful experience? If you have an online teacher you love and want to share, please let me know. Thanks.
  12. I am so glad you posted this. I have used their planners before and really like them!
  13. My oldest left yesterday to compete in Nationals at Gymnastics. This morning I feel like myself again for the first time in weeks. In addition to getting ready to compete, he had finals in Biology, History, Sociology and Literature. I did not realize how very stressful it has been until this morning - because all the stress is gone. I still have 2 kids here, but having one INTENSE kid away for a few days and my husband away is the closest I get to a vacation and it is absolutely delightful. I am doing a little happy dance. :hurray:
  14. Is Veritas Press listed? I did not see it. They have both self-paced classes and live online classes.
  15. Taryn Do you mind sharing what you use for math - do you use an online provider? Kathy
  16. I am considering the HSLD Academy Algebra 2 online class for next year which uses the BJU text. I am considering this largely due to the time and day it is offered. It is only one day a week. I do like that BJU has several teacher supports. However, I rarely see BJU Algebra 2 mentioned here which worries me. I wonder if the homework answers provides complete solutions for all work? I am curious if anyone has experience with this online class and/or comments on the BJU text? Similarly, CLRC Online offers Algebra 2 once a week, but they too use an unfamiliar text / "dynamic software product." Any feedback would be great. Thanks, Kathy
  17. Momof2cowboys - Exactly! My DS won't do it for/with me. It does appear as if there are few options.
  18. The title says it all. I am trying to find an AP Human Geography course online - other than the PA Homeschoolers class. Does anyone know who offers this? Thanks.
  19. I buy the books directly from Simple Solutions. I did have to send them proof that I homeschool - it was easy peasy. They are very helpful, and I love their workbooks. We have used many. So you know - the Common Core math is much more difficult than the standard math. My only complaint is that the solutions are not provided - just the answers.
  20. Simple Solutions Common Core 8 is a wonderful basic review of Algebra.
  21. s/o question ... which of these(s) online providers formed out of the Landry collapse? Are Big River and Excelsior using old Landry Teachers? I guess I would feel more comfortable working with a new 'school' if the teachers have been teaching online for a while. I have found the teacher will make/break the class - or the fit of the teacher and the student.
  22. Here is a fun list of 200 Things to Throw Out. Our trash can is 1/2 way full - I have one more day until 'trash day' to get that thing full! It is often filled with yard waste, but since the yard is covered in snow that is not going to happen. Off I go to find more things to throw out.
  23. I love reading these stories. I find it hard to declutter with kids around but I am hoping to get a little done over the weekend. I hope to part with many childhood trinkets. It feels so wonderful to let go of the material clutter that clogs my life. Thank you to everyone for the inspiration.
