  1. My son is in 1st grade and just turned seven. He is making progress with LOE Foundation but is struggling. He sees letters b for d, t for f, u for n, y as h. He has to really think hard when reading. When working on his phonograms he will often reverse the order -so the er becomes re, oa becomes ao. He never notices these mistakes. I have had his eyes checked. The eye doctor gave him glasses, I have not noticed any differences. Dyslexia runs in the family heavily. If I were to get him a diagnosis he could qualify for free tutoring in the area.
  2. At our house, handwriting is a huge issue. So she does copywork, and everything else I will write for her. For me it is more about does she know it not about her being able to write it down. Less frustration=happy mom
  3. Next year my 2nd grader will be doing LOE Foundation D, possible E(if they finish it). This has spelling, reading, copy work/dictation and grammar included in it. As for writing we will be doing Jot it down. I have no idea what we will do for third grade as I change curriculum to fit each kids needs.
  4. What about Classical Conversations memory work? You do not have to be in the co-op to do the memory work.
  5. I am looking into doing Memoria Press K enrichment read-aloud. With that they have a science book that goes along with the read-aloud. I want something simple, I will actually be adding my seven year old in with us.
  6. Not at all. My girls (4th & 5th grade) just started IEW this year through Essentials in CC. They find it so much easier to write an essay now. They know the process and so writing come so much easier. We just love IEW.
  7. My5 year old son love ABC reading eggs and starfall.
  8. Just chiming in...We love LOE Foundations. I have a Pre-K 5 year old in level A right now. I also have a 1st grader in Level C. It is a great program and at these age I consider grammar not necessary.
  9. My kids tend to only want to play on the games. The lessons can be overly long and dull. Not my kids favorite thing.
  10. Thank you everyone for your answers. I have a lot to think about. She does not really struggle but math is not her favorite thing. I do not think she will be a "mathy" person or choose a career that requires higher level math. MUS is working for her and she does not hate it.
  11. My oldest has just started using MUS this year. She is starting on Zeta now and just finished Epilson. I was looking at moving her to Saxon 7/6 next year but looking at it she will have covered most of it in Zeta or in Epilson. She is really get MUS so now I am wondering if I should just stick with it thru high school. Just looking to see how other kids did using thru their HS years.
  12. Our city has reached a record high yesterday on snow level for the year. Well guess what, it is not over.... I am so over this winter.
  13. Agree. I hated it and I love The Walking Dead.
  14. Oak Meadow Rod and Staff English grammar MFW AAS/AAR BJU
  15. Now see I really liked MCT. I am wanting to re-do it in a couple years with my son when he is in 3rd grade. I found it very easy to understand and it was great not to have another workbook.
  16. I have two DDs in Essentials this year, a 4th grader and a 5th grader. I love it. I really enjoy having them be held accountable to someone else. The IEW writing is outstanding. The papers my girls have written this year are unbelievable. The grammar program is great, I have learned so much myself.

  18. Is there a curriculum/literature study on any of the Percy Jackson books? My 4th grader just really got into the books. She is really not a big "Reader" and I want to use this new interest. I have been searching on the web but have not found anything passed the first book. It was on the author website and not really what I was looking for....but I will use it if that is all that is out there.
  19. I can not believe I will have a 6th grader next year. It is just can not be true. Here is what I am thinking for next year: History: CC foundations memory work pairing it with SOTW Science: Ellen McHenry Elements and Apologia Anatomy Latin: Big Book 1 (finish) Geography: Beautiful Feet and CC work Lang. 20. Do you still work on spelling in 6th grade? We are using LOE now and she is doing really well with it. Just not sure what to use for spelling next year. Is it normal to still do spelling at the age and what would you use? She is really wanting to be independent and BIG.
