  1. Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading was my favorite. We did 100ezl and PP too. OPGTR and PP were available at my library, so you might be able to try before you buy.
  2. I'm also doing Beast with more than one kid. My 5th and 4th are working through 4C. Though they have already read all the guides independently for fun, we take time to read them aloud together. Each of us has a couple characters we read for. Then each girl works through the workbook while I stay at the table. Due to concentration problems for my oldest and anxiety/perfectionism in the other we were unable to combine them until this past summer. They had a hard time with Beast 3 but since starting Beast 4 things have been easier, which allows them to finally work at the same time. This is a huge time saver for usSometimes they do a page from MM6 for extra review. My youngest is using Beast 3a and MM4a right now. She does the readings with me (she isn't a great reader) and works in the workbook for a page or two. She does MM independently. We also have dreambox for review and complete about 5-7 lessons a week.
  3. If I was one to wear white pants I'd wear them whenever I wanted!
  4. My mythology kid read all the How To Train a Dragon books. I think they are very conversational in tone. She also loved the Mytholpedia series done by scholastic at that time. She really loves the Reader who does the Percy books especially the Greek Heros and Greek Gods books. All my girls like the Greek god graphic novels written by George O'Conner. They are housed in the teen section of our library so you may want to check them out yourself first.
  5. I love your post! I also like feeding the birds. We now have a hawk that also likes me feeding the birds and uses my back yard as a hunting ground. My favorite is the blue jays who come in a big pack but only if I leave out peanuts.
  6. Monday- Nutella on bagel Tuesday-PB on toast OR French toast Wednesday and Thursday- Cheerios Friday- Oatmeal Saturday- pancakes Sunday- donuts We also have smoothies everyday and cottage cheese is available as a breakfast option. We leave the house early on Wednesday and Thursday. I have coffee for breakfast and my husband just drinks a smoothie. We just aren't big breakfast eaters.
  7. Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne When We Were Very Young by A.A. Milne Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts by Ronald Dahl We love Shel Silverstein's books but really don't like the audios. I know others do though!
  8. Mine do 1 a week. On Saturday. It's the only thing that day besides piano.
  9. Sun chips Blue moon ice cream SAndwiches cut into shapes I am trying to think of a fun drink but my kids are so picky we may just have water. Maybe I can find some cute ice shapes. They would love that.
  10. I'm in Michigan, right outside Detroit. I see the flag all the time. Mostly on shirts and hanging in windows. A couple weeks ago my husband and I were just commenting on a rise in sighting this past year. He saw a truck with a huge flag flying in back and sent me pictures of it. They had a MI license plate so not just driving through.
  11. When my oldest was 8 and her sisters 7 and 5, there was nothing that could keep them busy for several hours! At least not anything clean and safe. Busy for an hour usually signified something horribly wrong. They were never bored though always had a new plan cooked up! We had to do a lot of supervised play. One clean thing they enjoyed was setting up ALL their toys in another room as a store. Then using crackers to buy back the toys. That sounds messy in hindsight...
  12. When I had my third both sides of the family freaked. My girls are close in age so even the doctor commented. His first words were to ask if I had a better plan so it wouldn't happen again.
  13. I cannot believe I'm so excited for a grammar book!
  14. I'm confused. It doesn't sound like she is being aggressive or even mean. It sounds like she's just being direct. I feel this has been shown to be the most effective with bullies. As opposed to say ignoring them. Is the problem that you think someone will get physical with her after she confronts them?
  15. I always thought I would have assigned reading but it hasn't happened yet. We have a silent reading time but I let my girls pick their books. Mostly they pick books we own, which means I sorta did pick them. They can choose library books too though. If I want them to read a specific book I read it aloud or we listen to the audio. I'm not sure when this will change. I am assuming by junior high. For sure high school? We will have to wait and see...
  16. My kids all really liked the How To Be a Genius and How To Be A Math Genius books.
  17. My kids each have an old iPhone with no service attached. Free on wifi.
  18. My youngest is 7 and I have had two weekends away from kids. Both times I did it more for my mother (she wants adult time with me) than for myself. I prefer to stay home and send my husband and kids someplace else!!! That's my favorite â¤ï¸ Usually they go out for the day and evening then return for bedtime.
  19. I would try to normalize the experience so they don't feel the need to ask questions. Especially because this is not a close relationship. Most people I have discussed this with prefer innocent kids questions over people staring and yelling at their kids to hush and quickly running away. But the preferred interaction is usually normalization. ****This is purely my personal experience and generalizations from the people I have had contact with. Obviously everyone will not feel the same way.
  20. I also recommend the Reading Lesson book. I paired it with the ABC flash cards from Leap Frogs Letter Factory. Youngest used that for years to play lots of reading/blending games. She was able to sound out words early but didn't remember them them or read with any fluency till closer to 5. She is my youngest and really wanted to do something she could call "school" with me. She did go through 100ezl around age 4 and OPGTR after that.
  21. My brother is 33 and still on my parents phone plan. They pay it. He's the baby.
  22. The salad dressing idea is actually BRILLIANT!
