Cursive First versus Logic of English Cursive?
Sue in MD replied to MotherGoose's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Have you looked at Handwriting without Tears curriculum? It was developed by an OT, and it is wonderful. -
I would agree with the recommendation to get an OT evaluation or at least consult. This can often be covered by insurance.

Geometry - what program?
Sue in MD replied to Sue in MD's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thanks to all who took the time to respond! I will check into the suggestions. Again, thanks so much! -
We have been very happy with Saxon Math, but feel that we need a course in geometry which Saxon doesn't have. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what program would be best? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks.

Does anyone know of a curriculum that teaches just US history, and uses a format similar to Story of the World? I am looking for a curriculum for k - 4. Thanks!

Lyrical Earth & Life Science Text, Cd & Workbook
Sue in MD replied to Pongo's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I would like the earth science set. Please email me. Thanks! des_sms@yahoo.com -
I like the idea of the science notebook. It would be a good tool to see what they got out the activity, too.

We tried a history lapbook this year - -and the kids weren't as into it as I thought they would be. It was also hard to keep all those little pieces together. I think your idea might be best -- to let the kids have a vested interest into how the lapbook is created. I guess my experience with lapbooks this year has caused me to wonder....I know parents and reviewers love lapbooks, but are they really of great value to the kids' learning? So many times I see information glued into lapbooks for a great "presentation" but is it really meaningful to the kids?

Shurley English Users... Can you help a novice?
Sue in MD replied to Linda...inOwasso's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We did the same - one lesson a day, skipping day 5 writing. Something I found helpful for my daughter was using notecards for the vocabulary words. We use two cards for each lesson (one for each pair Syn/Ant). On the front we put both words. On the back, we write each word and defiiniton, and whether they are synonyms or antonyms. This helps her review prior to the test as she can read the words, guess if they are syn/ant, and then self check by flipping the card.
