  1. I like L'Oreal creme colors best. I think my hair feels better after coloring it. There are several new products out there that say they can do the job in 10 minutes. I've had mixed results with them. If you have hair past your shoulders, buy two boxes. You may not need the all of the second bottle, but you'll probably need some of it.
  2. There are several state grants here in Ohio that you cannot get without the FAFSA. My ds got roughly $3K per semester.
  3. I'm 50 and I'm looking at 2 knee replacements. Do whatever you can to protect your knees. Switch to swimming or using an elliptical, for your own sake.
  4. My experience is not a B12 deficiency, but anemia, particularly in the spring. I resort to Geritol. Talk to your priest. If you're getting ill from the deficiency in your diet, I doubt that he'll say you shouldn't take it because it's animal-based. My friends on insulin weren't banned from using their pork-based meds.
  5. Thank you! He sounds exactly like what she'll love!
  6. All drum sets have that issue with nuts loosening - at least, all the ones we've dealt with. I suspect the laws of physics apply here - those cymbals, high hats, etc. are vibrating and will loosen the nuts in the process. I just made sure my dd knew how to do the tightening properly herself. I think your kids' drum instructor will have recommendations about what set your kids need, but we bought a Union beginners set for around $300. We've had very little trouble with it and as my dd went from being 5'2" to 6' (yes, six feet tall!) she's had no problem with a drum set that was too small, nor too big. Ultimately, she bought a set of new drum heads for it, but that may have been a stylistic decision because they're black. Who knows? I think this is the kit we bought. http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10051&langId=-1&productId=900142983
  7. Cuddl-Duds long underwear. I love them. I like rice packs too. The rice pack booties are nice, but I got them at a deep discount place for 5 bucks, and probably could have made them with a normal but extra large pair of slippers from Walmart and two socks to put the rice in.
  8. I buy bottles of glycerin from a pharmacy every winter. I mix 1 part glycerin to 4-5 parts water in a spray bottle. After my showers, I spray my entire body with the mix, rub it in, and then dry myself off. This has completely solved my worst winter dry skin problems. It's cheap, unscented, fast and easy.
  9. I stick to canvas as much as possible. I've had several for almost 20 years and they're still solid, if a bit stained.
  10. We love the two cds by Ted Jacobs http://www.amazon.com/Days-Gone-Songs-American-Demand/dp/B00004UDDH/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1259728885&sr=1-1 The Days Gone By and http://www.amazon.com/Childs-Garden-Songs-Poetry-Stevenson/dp/B00000HZEB/ref=pd_bxgy_m_img_b A Child's Garden of Verses. We need something else and it seems that the artist hasn't done anything since then. So... We're looking for some American folk music, not political, primarily accoustic, child friendly... (not asking for much, am I) oh, and IN PRINT. Please give me your suggestions! My 11yod doesn't like pop music, doesn't like kiddie music, doesn't like rock music... Thanks.
  11. My father graduated from TriState in 1960 - I don't imagine that helps much.
  12. How's my college student? I wouldn't know without facebook.:tongue_smilie:
  13. I believe there's a Godwin's Law http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law corollary in homeschooling threads, I'm just not sure what the equivalent of "Hitler" would be. :D
  14. I appreciate the need for your child to have this accommodation, but bus drivers stopping at every house - which our local school system buses do for the high school student is supremely annoying to me. Children will not melt in rain nor freeze in snow - make them walk. But it was nice of him to stop at your house.
  15. Katie Fforde has written some charming romance novels. I once heard them described as "Doris Day" which was a perfect analogy.
