  1. Thanks. We will definitely have to visit.
  2. Not yet. I hope dd will be able to do an overnight.
  3. I'd be curious to learn more about this school. My D's was just accepted. It seems like the perfect match because it seems rigorous, offers the major dd is interested in, the type of clubs she wants, and music and service opportunities...and there seems to be plenty of social activities without drinking. She is Catholic and I hope that she won't be given a hard time by other Christians there.
  4. Thanks for the comments. It's nice to know we are not the only ones dealing with this issue. I think the MIF extra practice workbooks have nice spacing. I might fall back on that.
  5. This would be a great solution for most people, but I couldn't deal with that extra step right now.
  6. I looked into their scholarship competition awhile back and it seemed like a pretty big investment to make to fly out from the East Coast for a low chance. D has already done one scholarship competition, has another invite, and is hoping for one more invite. She also submitted an involved competitive scholarship application. It's getting a little crazy, but if D is game, I can do crazy if it's in driving distance. :)
  7. Yes, schools close, including ones that have been around since the 1800s. One of my children graduated from a school with a C rating. My next one is considering one and I am more worried this time since I have heard of closures. ETA: I just checked the 2017 ratings and the school being considered got a D. Ouch.
  8. Thank you! My friend's dd went to Benedictine and loved it and the area so much she never came back. But for us the cost is high when combined with travel expenses.
  9. Ok, I'll jump in... Dd goes to Mass everday. I would like her to have the option to continue that with a group of likeminded kids whether she goes to a secular or Catholic college. She wants diversity but also an active Catholic community. The school that impressed her the most was the one where she had tour guides and hosts who were not Catholic or any other variety of Christian who started to go to daily Mass at college and eventually converted due in part to the openhearted and welcoming kids who they met who went to daily Mass. They talked about how they were shown respect despite their differences when they first visited and then started attending the college. That part appealed very much to my dd. I think there are quite a few schools that would offer what dd wants but she does not want large or urban and she had good states but not super high.
  10. I think this is still in effect. We visited recently and I think the policy is simply to stay in good academic standing to keep scholarships. My dd really liked Ursinus but is a little concerned about the drinking culture after we heard quite a bit about drinking in the tour. Dd read some reviews to follow up and they seemed to confirm her fears. I'd love to hear a different perspective....
  11. I've had weird reactions to the eye drops, too! I flush, overheat, and my heart rateincreases. My eye doctor has had patients pass out. I have dysautonomia so my body does not regulate my heart rate and blood pressure very well, and I have been suspected of having low blood volume. I used to have to go into the ER for IV fluids to get regulated. I'm really afraid I could have serious issues giving blood. Even if I got through the blood giving, I'd probably feel sick for weeks. Or maybe I'm just a wimp.
  12. Thanks. D still has some writing issues and workbooks could really help, even if they are just meant to be supplements. That's a real plus with MIF: workbooks with lots of white space.
  13. Thanks. You're using Simple Solutions, too, aren't you? Or maybe I'm imagining things...but I'm really living SS alongside of Singapore.
  14. B12, B12, B12, especially since you're a vegan. Does the new doc know you're a vegan and still blow this off? ETA: I had some similar stuff with a B12 deficiency.
  15. I just don't want to give up the kind of word problems they have in Singapore by transitioning to a standard pre-algebra.
  16. If my goal were to get dd into algebra in 8th grade. How can I accomplish that with finishing SM6 in February if 6th grade? Would it be possible to go to MIF Course 3 from SM 6? It is it better to start with MIF Course 2 even if she might not have time to complete Course 3?
  17. Maybe a sprinkle of broth would be something simple the others could manage.
  18. Here's my krill oil story: After taking fish oil for years, I switched to krill oil because I kept reading it was better absorbed. It took me over two years to realize that it was causing chronic pain. I was suspected of having fibro or depression. I even noticed how my pain would come back each time I stopped allergy medication and I just attributed that to my aging body and environmental allergies, not making any connection with the krill oil. But once I stopped the krill oil, my pain went away and I stopped having other unrelated allergic reactions. I rarely need allergy meds now. Sometimes, for whatever reason, the stuff that's supposed to be good for you isn't.
  19. Thanks! â¤ï¸ I'm visiting close to Gettysburg next week and close to Pittsburgh the week after that. Thinking if I can manage a visit this week...
  20. I just googled Littlestown and it's less than three hours away. :)
  21. Very happy for you and your dd!!! I'll be following along since I like your schools.
  22. I'm back. :) D visited and applied to Ursinus. She liked that it was suburban. I was surprised that being in a town was that important to her. She also liked Lebanon Valley and maybe part of that was because in a town, too, though tiny. I'm curious about Susquehanna. Is it in a town? Gettysburg? If D wants to apply to Muhlenberg I might include Gettysburg if it's in a town and F & M, too. Might as well make the stinkin' profile worth it! I thought F & M was a reach but with the new SAT D is above average there and Gettysburg, too.
