  1. All of our stuff was a hit. We asked for very little and each got something from someone that we wanted and a couple of surprises. It was very nice. DD got her hello kitty bed linens and alarm clock (as well as smaller Hello Kitty items from other family members), DS got a Steam gift certificate, magnetic putty and not asked for, but needed and glad that he got it, a foil vest for fencing. They got little odds and ends that I knew they would like. I got a little juicer (not for vegies, more for pulpy fruits) and bought DH and I a couple of hiking packs. We need to fill them with some things and see how they fit before we decide if we'll keep them or not. I was able to purchase a few horse related items for my trailer so that was nice as well.
  2. I'm working on this scarf for my daughter http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/city-neckwarmer but I'm using a thinner yarn since she won't want it real bulky. I've got to pick another for her and then one for my son...thought about making a black one with mine craft creeper heads at the end :)
  3. Yes, Sorry! Typing too fast and no proofreading.
  4. Beth in TX on You tube has great crochet videos. The camera is set up behind over her shoulder making it easy to see what is going on. I taught myself through her and a few others on youtube. Knitting...I'm no help there, lol.
  5. Oh, Rose...I see progress. It will take some time. HUGS to you and your family!
  6. Got all three horses excercised and one is still exercising herself out there hauling a saddle and funky equipment attached to it. Laundry being rotated and kids are cleaning a little house since we have company coming on Monday. Then I'm back outside to go drill holes in my horse trailer for some bucket hangers I bought and off to Home Depot to get the proper screws I need for them.
  7. It's just a pillow....that looks like a stuffed animal. It doesn't matter how old they are :). It's Christmas and they are cheap as far as Christmas gits go. If my 16 yr old wanted one, I'd oblige. I think they're cute and I'm 35 :)
  8. It is inappropriate where children are concerned. If it were me, I'd have my DH talk with her. If that didn't work, then I would. I'm a bit more straightforward and firm though about things. If she couldn't control herself, she'd be blocked. I'd mail her the photos instead...
  9. I'm going to work my new horse...then work my other two horses....then clean up the barn....order some photos...but I've got to run to the store first, to pick up boat bumpers for the horse training, lol. Oh and stop by the Dollar Store.
  10. my husband works days and nights and sometimes within the same week. I painted the room a darker color (a red, because I like it)-it helps keep it from looking bright if any light does peek in, we keep the A/C down colder through the time he sleeps during the warmer months of the year and then we kick the heat down too so it doesn't get too hot in there. He has a box fan for noise reduction. I quickly sewed curtains of navy blue duck cloth and hung them on tension rods behind the blinds. I tie them in the middle when he's working days so I can get light. Oh and there is a film of window tint on the windows (there when we moved in since the previous owners DH worked shift too ). Our curtains that hang in the bedroom are also thick and stay to the side to help block more light too. I make dinner between noon and three so that I can get his packed and ready to go, plus I pack him a lunch (he works 12 hour shifts). I normally get anything I need out of there the night before and put it outside the room (clothes, make-up, etc) I try not to go in there for anything. Good luck! Your DH has a pretty good shift. Mine wouldn't mind that one :)
  11. But its their choice. Thats the beauty of freedom. I could choose to be unhealthy and obese as well, it 'runs in my family'. But I do not want to live my life constrained by the limitations of my body because I wouldn't use good judgement. Our society is sedentary by choice. We can also choose to not be. Personally I think there should be a huge tax on unhealthy prepared, prepackaged and fast food...but thats a different topic for another day :)
  12. I don't want people to make choices on what can be published for me, based on what's healthy or not. I cook from scratch quite often, I'm a southern gal, BUT, I know what's good for me and for my family and eating the occasional not so healthy food is not a problem. Everything in moderation... I like her recipes, but I surely don't need another cookbook :) . I have a tendency to collect them and my tiny house can not hold another lol
  13. Prob hoarse from barking. A kennel cough bark doesn't often sound like a bark at all. More like a bark, then cough cough and sometimes hacking sounds
  14. To send my 3 yr old horse to my friend for training :) and to get windows and vents installed in my horse trailer :)
  15. Her issue is the internet and our computers are password protected with weekly changes. DH has seen no key loggers on our computers. If it were also a computer usage thing then yes, all cords would be removed as well. And yep, off grid sounds good :) She'll be kept pretty busy working for her food and just living ;)
  16. In our state we've always been trained that the policy is to first call the church abuse/crime hotline and that they would then give us the appropriate local services number to call. We were also to always stay two deep when dealing with children and only inform as minimal people as possible to avoid having too many people/opinions involved with the local police/lawyers. The police recommended this as well. We had an incident involving a teen boy years ago. I did report it to our Bishop (who I trusted) and he directed me to immediately call our local police to be advised on what to do next. The Bishop took appropriate measures to protect the victim and then turned it over to our Stake Leaders who did the same. The boy could not return as the parent would not take appropriate measures to watch the kid.
  17. We remove the modem cord any time we leave the house or go to bed. Then it gets locked away. It's that rediculous here and no amount of talking to anyone has helped her see that the choices she has made to 'do what she wants to be happy' are affecting her daily life in a negative way which is totally opposite of what she says she wants....
  18. Just about every single day for the last 2.5 years (she's almost 16 too)....it's exhausting...frustrating...hugs to you. I surely don't seem to have an answer for what works...so far I'm just sticking to the "if your mouth is running and you can't be respectful/kind and do your schoolwork as you know you're supposed to do, then you can just work instead". It works for her because she thinks that sitting here and doing the minimal for school and being a grouch to everyone is okay. It's definitely NOT okay.
