  1. Horizons. We love it, although I wish the teacher's guide was more than just an answer book.
  2. I think it just depends on the child. Our dd has always said she wanted to run an orphanage when she grew up. She is now a house parent at a Christian children's home. Besides her, her dh, and their 3 dc, they have another 7 in their home. I am always amazed at how wonderful she copes with everything! I, on the other hand, am still debating what I would like to be when I grow up:001_smile:
  3. :iagree: When our dd sees this going on around her, she refers to it as "putting yourself on the market". I think she is awfully smart!
  4. :iagree: It is always better to err on the side of safety where a child is concerned. This woman is scary IMHO. Any person who shows such an intent interest in my child would be viewed with extreme caution.
  5. We finally ended up having to put up a deer fence around our kitchen garden to keep out all the four-legged animals...pets and others! Our cats thought all that really nice dark, rich, dirt I had put in made wonderful kitty litter. Yuch!
  6. No, you are not the only one. I tried a class at our church which used one of her books and was really uncomfortable with it, and ended up not finishing the class.
  7. History! I love it! And it's my dd favorite subject, which makes it even better!
  8. My 9 yo dd is in bed by 8:30 and allowed to read as long as she wants, but is usually asleep by 9:30.
  9. Hannah_hs_helps yahoo group has wonderful cards to print off for SOTW...full color, with background information on each picture. It also has workbook activities for each chapter. After you join the group you can access the "file" section, then the "history" section. We used these cards to make a time line and to review the chapters. It's a great site! Hope this can be of help.
  10. Hi, my name is.....,and I'm an INFJ. Sorry, couldn't resist:lol: I did not go to college until after I was married and had 3 dc. Education was not high priority when I was a child, and then life just sort of happened. Marriage, dc, husband's job moved us around the country continually. It took 10 years of taking classed here and there to just get an AA in Liberal Arts.
  11. My dh and I have discussed this before and agree that if either one of us makes a conscious choice to have an affair, then the marriage is over...choice made, no discussion necessary, good bye, have a good life. We both come from families where infidelity was the norm and just an accepted part of marriage. Not to through stones, but to me an affair and a fling are the same thing. They both = infidelity.
  12. Nope. Not interested. The movie industry is way to self absorbed and ready to pat themselves on the back.
  13. My dd went to school with a boy named Stoney Kilo, and I worked with a woman who named her dd Trinket.
  14. I'd try a different store. All the stores in our area just give them away. We usually pick up 3-5 buckets just by asking.
  15. Hey, Janna! I'm another one of the "rare" ones. I was beginning to think I was the only one...kind of an weird feeling. Glad I'm not alone:001_smile:
  16. My dd came home one day and informed me she wanted to take flying lessons  Not on our budget  That was on a Wednesday, by Saturday she had joined CAP and was in the air. CAP was such a positive experience for her and really helped to instill responsibility, determination, and respect for herself and others. I highly recommend it.
  17. We would love to be part of this! How do we get one started?
  18. I checked $400.00-$600.00 per child, but this include our co-op costs for dd's extra-curricular classes. I save a lot of money by buying most of our curriculum used.
  19. Usually between 5:30 and 6:00. Once I am awake I am up and moving. My body doesn't have a snooze button.
  20. Never, ever. My xdil left my ds with her ds (1 1/2 yrs old) from a previous relationship and their dd (6 mo. old) saying she decided she did not want to be a wife or a mother. My ds got custody of his dd and legal guardianship of her ds. My ds was not even 20 yrs old and this devastated him. We ended up raising ds's dd and have since adopted her. Ds still has custody of xwifes's son (I hesitiate to refer to him as this because he has always and will always be our dgs and spends much of his time with us). The xdil has since left dh#2 and 2 more dc. The only good thing I can say about xdil is that she has never contacted the dc again.
  21. :iagree: I certainly would not appreciate my dd receiving flowers as a child.
  22. :iagree: I use agave in hot cereal, tea, etc., and use honey in baking things like bread.
