  1. Thanks for the feedback. I find it very interesting that the eastern philosopy is so easy since it is listed as being for ages 12-18. It is a bit of a disappointment. In your opinion does the teacher guide bring up higher level concepts appropriate for upper middle school? Or is it all at an elementary level?
  2. Middle Eastern Chicken and Rice https://dinnerthendessert.com/halal-carts-middle-eastern-chicken-and-rice/ The marinade was delicious when I made it but somewhere the flavors we're diluted. I cooked the chicken in the instant pot on the rack. Next time I will cook on the grill and reserve some marinade to add to the chicken. Beware - the sauce is spicy!
  3. Hello! Has anyone used RFWP's Eastern and Western Philosophy programs? Specifically, I am looking at the middle school level books. Any opinions on this program? Are they full year programs or can you do eastern one semester and Western in one semester? Can these be considered a high school course? Western: https://www.rfwp.com/package/philosophy-package-3 Eastern: https://www.rfwp.com/series/eastern-philosophy-by-ingrid-klass
  4. Guess not! They appeared after I submitted but now they are ???s
  5. I haven't really investigated the new site but at first glance I love the layout on mobile. It is very clean and seems easy to use. Much better than the old site. ???????? I can use the Emojis from my phone keyboard.
  6. I have been following this story. It is so heart breaking. I hope for the best regarding the three missing children but it has been quite a few days now. I am guessing they were washed out to sea.
  7. I think if your student is at a place where they need to take notes and utilize study skills it is a fantastic class. It is also very worth while if your student will be taking an online course through any provider. The class taught note taking, memorization tools, keeping a neat study place, goal setting, and tips to overcome test anxiety. Since we continued taking classes through WTMA learning to utilize the online classroom was very useful. The homework was relevant to the teachings of the class and in the end your student will have a packet to remind them of the things learned throughout the class to use as a resource. The teacher was engaging, kept the class interesting, and was fantastic at keeping the students on topic. My son says the class was helpful, he learned new things, and the teacher was really nice. ETA: I feel it was worth the money. I do think some of the skills that were taught have not yet been relevant in our homeschool so they have been forgotten, but a quick review would remedy it. If your son utilizes the skills taught then I think it would be useful. My son took the class more seriously because there was a teacher and a live component. I am not sure that would have been the case if the material was taught in a different format. He was in 6th grade when he took the class.
  8. My son took the online study skills class. Most of the class was basic study skills. Some of the items related to the online component are helpful when if you aren't taking online courses (file management, contacting a teacher when you need help, how to write a respectful email).
  9. Thanks for all of the replies. Since DC has already completed geology and is now doing chemistry I think physical science would be too redundant. Perhaps physics would be a better fit. After reading the responses to my other thread interest led may be an option here. Thanks for the comments on the math. I thought a repeat of algebra would be beneficial since I have seen that assertion many times here at wtm. I will reevaluate this next year.
  10. Thanks, everyone! I have enjoyed reading all of your replies ðŸ˜
  11. I am interested in having my teen start this in the summer. Any advice? How did you choose an advisor? I would also love to hear about any of your teen's updates!
  12. I am trying to decide what to do next year. I have read here it is beneficial to do physics prior to bio and chem. I am confused on the difference between conceptual physics and conceptual physical science. My student is completing AOPS prealgebra with significant help from me and will do AOPS algebra next year. (The plan is to repeat algebra in 9th). Here are my questions: What would you advise? What is the difference between conceptual physics and conceptual physical science? Are there other programs I should consider? Elemental Science Physics?
  13. I am trying to decide what to do for 8th grade science next year. I am leaning towards physical science/physics. What are you doing? Inspire me!
  14. I vote repair it yourself or have someone else do it. Before you do that clean the dryer and the vent hose thoroughly. Take the back off the dryer and get all of the lint. Also, Google instructions on how to clean your dryer's sensor.
  15. Do you have the WWS 1 teacher guide? I find WWS impossible to teach without it.
  16. Thank you everyone for your helpful advice. I will keep this in mind as I begin to plan out our summer.
  17. I recommend this app. I have used it and my children have enjoyed using it. https://insighttimer.com
  18. My 7th grader is currently taking AOPS prealgebra. He is not solid on all of the concepts but he has learned a lot this year and I feel he is definitely more ahead using AOPS than he would be using another program. This summer I plan to have him review prealgebra to prepare for WTMA AOPS algebra. What do you consider the most important topics to focus on in preparation for algebra?
  19. Ok, thanks. How does she get enough practice speaking the language? Are there videos to watch or is it a guide with assignments that follow a text? What is the cost of the class?
  20. Can you tell me more about it? Does it fit any of the criteria I would prefer in a German class? Thanks.
  21. My 13yo is in an online German class this year. I am not very happy with the class and would like to switch providers. Here are some things I would like to see in a class: - meets more than once a week - has a clear syllabus with dates for tests/quizzes - assignments are graded in a timely manner (a week or less) - clear expectations on what to do on days the class does not meet with guidance on *how* to learn a language - culture integrated throughout the course - clear guidance on pronunciation (This course gives long vocabulary lists for each chapter and only about 25% is used in class. No pronunciation guidance is given.) - the textbook has English explanations so it is easy to study the text outside of class Does anyone have experience with an online class that fits this criteria? Or am I being too picky? What has your experience been with online German class? What provider would you recommend? Also, what do you consider a thorough understanding of German 1 that would enable a student to move on to German 2? I am considering doing a repeat of German 1.
  22. My children are enjoying learning about WW2 and want to stay on the topic for a little while. I would love to hear about WW2 unit studies that last 2-4 weeks. Something without a ton of crazy projects* (a couple is fine!) and that can be semi self directed. *Crazy projects are defined as projects that take all afternoon and require stops at multiple stores.
  23. A pair of rats. They are clean, smart, affectionate, low maintenance, and they do not live very long.
