  1. All the above. ;) At some point, though, nothing works if it's not entered in. I'm not sure how Google Calendar could have let you miss an appointment unless you aren't using it to full capacity. Do you have a cell phone? Google Calendar can send an email, pop-up, and text at all sorts of intervals. Sometimes we do all three at decreasing intervals (1 week before, 1 day before, 3 hours before, 1 hour before...) so there is no way we could possibly forget a vital appointment. I won't get into the dull details, but especially on days when there are several things going on the literal bells and whistles have kept us from becoming so focused at one event that we miss out on the next appointment. I also have a paper planner. It has appointments, but it serves other functions as well. (Yes, I am OCD, Type A, etc... why do you ask? ;) )
  2. I frequently have conversations similar to this one with scientists in various fields. Yesterday evening, it was with a physicist. Over and over the refrain is do what you love, stay flexible, be open to change, and seize unexpected opportunities.
  3. It depends on what you consider counting... Good scores may open doors to opportunities well before college. Those doors may lead to the roads that lead to riches in the form of elite college acceptances and/or scholarship $$$. So in some respects, they count a great deal!
  4. Personally, I think those who have to wait should get 1 point added to the section of their choice... ;)
  5. I wonder if that 22% consists mostly of students retesting soon after the first test, as opposed to a year or two later. These are the situations that intrigue me. Why stop as a sophomore? Surely the odds are in your favor with another year or two of study. I do understand if someone has a near perfect score already or severe test anxiety. It's just interesting to me because it never occurred to me to be done early without a 36 or close to it. I appreciate those who have shared. I learn so much from this board!
  6. Am I correct in presuming those in early/middle high school who are not taking it again scored 36? Otherwise, I'm curious if there is some other magical cutoff for not needing to test again. Signed, WMA (OCD, Type A, etc., etc.) mother of DD (OCD, Type A, etc., etc.) ;)
  7. I'm having trouble finding this list. Would you be able to give more details about how to find it or provide a link? Thanks!
  8. It's my understanding from various posts that Thomas Hummel and Kathleen Brian teach in a workshop format and Chloé Richardson's class is more traditional. I encourage you to email Chloé Richardson or any of the instructors for details or any questions you have about which class would be the best fit for your child. I've found the Academy to be very responsive to answering questions.
  9. Thinking of you and your family... :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  10. Dd had to guess on 3 in the math section because she only had a minute or two left. She guessed on about 7 in the math section last year. She was able to finish the other sections, but was not feeling completely well (she came home with a fever) and said the science (last section) was a slog to get through. She didn't take the writing.
  11. Dd came home with a fever. :( She finished the test and feels relatively good about it, but we do hope her score isn't affected by her not being entirely well.
  12. I almost added dd's pool pass to the official "take to test" stack. Oops. Thank goodness I realized I'd grabbed the wrong ID. I doubled checked everything a zillion times after that. ;)
  13. :smilielol5: It was the chowderhead threat that drew me in... Ah! To post on threads where such danger lurks! Heroic, as always. I've laughed until I've almost cried, but I keep getting this uncomfortable feeling I can't place.... (Says the woman who may or may not have on one (or more) occasion shown up to morning lessons primly dressed in the manner of a 19th century English governess...)
  14. Oh, pardon me... I was looking for the Book A Year thread. In other words....still reading Don Quixote. ;) I've read pesky college admission books and the like too, but alas, those aren't fun to chat about... :seeya: I've missed you guys...
  15. An important update! New sections and instructors have been added to the writing courses. There will now be the option for the workshop format or a more traditional class structure. Win-win. :)
  16. Just wanted to update this thread as this is no longer the case! :) Any more reviews about Rhetoric with Chloé Richardson? I would be interested in hearing how class time is spent. I'm also interested in how much written feedback is given.
  17. I found a copy of Chloé Richardson's syllabus from this year. It looks like the books are the same, which is what I was hoping.
  18. Thanks for listening in and addressing our concerns. When will the new sections be added? (ETA: They have now been added. :) ) Thanks!
