  1. We did BJU 4th grade science online this year. My kids loved it and learned so much! I enjoyed having at least one subject taught by someone else, since I'm very hands-on with the rest of their curriculum. I buy my BJU materials through a reseller. In either October or November each online class goes on sale for $100 per class (books not included). They have done this for a number of years, and I'm hopeful they will offer the sale this year. 2. I am interested in these reponses also!
  3. Thanks for the input. I'm sorry if I shocked any of you. I had heard of teachers encouraging the right hand before, but wasn't sure if that was correct to do. I thought not, but as I have no formal training in early education, I decided to ask. BTW, I would have never considered strapping down the left hand or any other extreme measures. We'll just wait and see what she decides.
  4. My first 3 children have automatically favored their right hands. My daughter, who is 2 1/2, now will do everything with her left - drawing, cutting and eating. I occasionally encourage her to try the right, but she will quickly switch back. Should I just let it go, or continue to encourage her to use her right hand? This is probably a silly question, but I appreciate any input you all have. Thanks!
  5. I think I'll try workboxes this year. Thanks for the ideas!
  6. This thread was helpful. I've been feeling overwhelmed trying to do too much at once. Maybe this change is just what we need!
  7. We love Rightstart Math, All About Spelling, Writing with Ease, First Language Lessons & BJU Bible.
  8. How do you all do your classical curriculum with so many kids??? I have read Managers of their Schools, but I can't seem to get our schedule to cover everything we are doing. Too much of their school relies one on one with me. My kids are 10, 8, 6 & 1. We are using: BJU Bible Rightstart Math AAS BJU Reading WWE FLL Apologia Science TOG I can't get to everything. I want to add art and music, but I can't seem to get our core finished before I run out of day. Help!!
  9. If you did it concurrently with Geometry, how long would it take I wonder. 1 1/2 years maybe?
  10. No, it's for after E. I'm not sure if they would suggest to do it before or after Geometry though.
  11. I just got off the phone with the RightStart Math office, and they told me the next curriculum level for fractions would be coming VERY soon. She didn't have an exact date yet.
  12. I could have written you exact post two years ago. Rightstart was the answer for us. Very hands on and fun. No other math curriculum I have ever seen is more hands on in fact.
  13. Wow! That was such a help to me. Thank you for looking it all up!!
  14. I have heard that VideoText Algebra does a review of everything before jumping into Algebra. Should we do MUS PreAlgebra first, or is that too much duplication? We are just finishing Zeta now, halfway through 5th Grade.
  15. I'm sorry, I hadn't heard from anyone. So, I thought I'd ping it to the top.
  16. Doing flashcards was like pulling teeth. We love card games with math though. Try RightStart Math Card Games (you can use them without the curriculum if you want). Also, we drill using XtraMath.com daily. It's free and keeps track of your children's progress through the tables (addition through division). I love that they don't practice the facts that my kids already have down, only the ones that they are less speedy on. HTH.
  17. I love to use Xtramath.com daily in conjunction with rsmath. It has free drills on computation up to division. Your children only practice facts they don't know rather than all of them. It's free and takes only 5-10 minutes a day.
  18. If someone is just finishing MUS Zeta, do you think she should do PreAlgebra before moving to VideoText Algebra or not? We were thinking of using RightStart G for half of the year and then starting VideoText in tandem like the Rightstart website suggests. She is in 5th Grade now, and will finish Zeta in a couple of weeks. Thanks!
  19. Can you explain all the colors? I'm confused by them. :001_huh:
  20. Have you looked into Headsprout? Three of my kids have gone through the whole curriculum. It is great!
  21. We love AAS! The whiteboard has the magnetized tiles on it all the time. I store it behind our sofa up against the wall so the kids don't play with it.
  22. I switched to RightStart Math. My son now has almost instant recall. We used to struggle through flash card drills. The RS technique of using card games instead made math drills fun and low pressure. He always did three times the amount of math drill with the games instead of flash cards. Rightstart does sell the card games separately even if you don't use the curriculum. HTH!
  23. It's working for me now. Thanks so much!:thumbup::thumbup:
  24. Is the link down? Is there another place to see the placement test? Thanks! Angie
  25. We had a similar problem with my DS, we tried MUS and I finished Alpha & part of Beta and he was still counting answers out at 8 years old. The answers took a fair amount of time and flash card work was very hard to get through with very little retention. I switched to RightStart Math and we LOVE it, so much better for us than MUS. He's doing 2 digit + 2 digit addition with carrying in his head orally now. He speed and confidence have picked up tremendously. MUS just uses the cuisinaire rods, but RightStart uses many other types of visual stimulus that was much more memorable for my son. HTH! Angie
