  1. God and the history of art is really a great program. it does alot more than just teach art. I really enjoy it. nancyt.
  2. We are using Living Books Curriculum, it is boxed but you provide your own math. It is great, it covers world history cronologically, as well as american history. has science, nature studies, picture studies, composer studies. music studies, and does alot of dictation and narration. really a great program. nancyt:)
  3. I love the VP History, and literature, however, I did not buy streams of civilization. I figured a few spines are enough. It bores me when we have to many just facts things. we do the cards, read the backs. add some of the required spines. (not all) But what we do love is reading the books as a family at night that correspond with the card. I dont want to over power my daughter with all that historical facts at a young age. SHe is in 4th grade, we are doing Middle ages, renaissance and reformation. We read the card, do the worksheet and then read a historical fiction. We learn so much from the historical fiction because it gets you into the life of the times. I learned the hard way to allow myself to be in control. not the curriculum to control me. nancyt.
  4. I really like shurley, it helps to really learn the parts of a sentence. However, I dont let it stress me, We use IEW for writing. I leave out the writing from Shurley. I also leave out the vocab looking up and writing, since we do that with our veritas history. and Apologia science. I dont let it take long or stress me. I just use it for what we need for grammar. There are so many different theories on grammer out there, it is 8 parts of speech, we learn it over and over and over and over every year. Yes, at a more indepth level but, still the same thing, Being on an Iew forum, They dont think that much grammar is important. Use what parts you want, and leave the rest. HTH< nancyt.
  5. Wow!!!! I am so glad I read all these great items. I never even knew they existed.......Thanks all you smart ladys. nancyt.
  6. This is tooo Funny!!!!! I cant have a reason I saved it from my older daughters, I have 2 trown daughters, I have a 9 y ear old Daughter. I just end up buying them. I have on my schedule 2 grammar programs for this coming year, I love both of them, so will probably use both because they teach in different ways and dont take long to do. But i have had several math, history science and so on books. My husband thinks I am crazy. But I love to get new things I get so excited, then another one comes along and I get excited about it and so on and so on. I hope you are not as bad as me. LOL...nancyt.
  7. A Thomas Jefferson Education will help a child think for themselves, and to logically figure out things because they are taught how to think, not what to think. It is a classics based styleand teaches children great work ethics.
  8. I plan an entire year, but I dont put dates or days on it. I am under an umbrella that requires me to teach 180 days. So i do enough planning for 180 days but dont put dates to those days since i have 1 full year to get it done. That way I dont burn out, or feel as if I am behind. I just do the next thing, until it is done.
  9. I wish I could give you good advise. I am not that computer literate to be able to do all the stuff for homeschool tracker. However, I do know they have an instruction booklet. which of course I never bought, and they also have help from their office. THey could probably explain.
  10. I have never used an old fashioned education, but I have heard people say it is great, I personally with a charlotte mason flair, love HOD, and Living books curriculum, and If i was brave I would do Simply Charlotte mason. nancyt.
  11. Of all of the above, I love HOD, It is great, and very well rounded. nancyt.
  12. I love Heart of Dakota, IT is a great curriculum very Christian worldview. It is great, we are using Preparing hearts for His Glory with my 4th grader. We Love it... nancyt.
  13. That is such a horrible thing. If someone called me an idiot in public, it would be so humiliating. I'd want to run and hide in a closet. I dont know if I would say something, it depends on the circumstances. I have said things in the past. But when it is a man, I feel it would be better if my husband was there for him to speak out. If it was another mom, then I would say something, probably like what someone mentioned in a previous post. Children can be hard to deal with when we are out. Or they sure wear us out at times dont they. Or something to the affect they were seen. That is a terrible thing, If someone would do that in public, That little boy needs prayer to what is being done in private. He will grow up to do the same thing to his children. and we wonder why so many Public School kids act the way they do. As scripture says paraphrased greatly. you are what you hang around. nancyt
  14. I have been and will continue to go to rallies and different things to stand for my rights. We "my entire family" will be going to one in our area on april 15th, it will be a "boston' tea party. We don't want to be socialists, we dont like the spending. and so on. so we will go to stand for our cause. We also want to teach our dd to do the same. nancyt.
  15. I think alot of parents use christian material to teach their children a particular worldview. Every thing we use, and what we teach, lends them to a particular worldview. I prefer to teach my dd a Christian worldview. I dont use a quote "Christian Math Program" but I want her to see everything through the eyes of scripture. I want her to make her decisions based on scripture and learn that all history is God's story. My language arts, Math, Latin, and alot of the reading is not from a Christian perspective, however, Through teaching scripture. We can discuss what we agree or disagree with in the readings. Also I beleive just because there is a scripture verse on the page, or like math using mary and joseph as examples are not teaching the child anything about God's word. I think alot of curricula that is considered "Christian" is not. unless God's word is taught the "Theology". It is really a waste of time. HTH, God bless, nancyt.:)
  16. I have mixed feelings, I feel the right thing to do would be to go with Hubbie. But my heart hurts whenever I leave my dc. You would have a wonderful time, especially since your in-laws have left most of your children. And since your older ones will be there, that would help make the younger one feel more comfortable. but I am a big wimp when it comes to leaving my kids. But .......I know you will make the right decision. have fun!!!!! nancyt.
  17. Another alternative would be IEW, it is an excellent program, It teaches the parent first, then the parent teaches the child. Very very enjoyable. nancyt.:)
  18. Thank you that is great encouragement. nancyt.
  19. my daughter will be 9 this next school year.so she would be able to go through foundations 1 time.any thoughts on starting this age?
  20. Has any one tried classical conversations? IF so what did you think, was it worth the money that is charged? Thank you, I am considering but I would like to hear pro's and con's. Thank you, nancyt.
  21. I really like the Exploring creation series by Jeannie Fulbright. Theyare great.
  22. We were going to start a classical conversations in my area, but it fell through because of costs. but it seems the art is dependent on the mom that is teaching the art. It is a great program, for a co-op type environment. and their history is mainly memorizing all the veritas history timeline, so when they get to the logic and rhetoric stages, those pegs will be in their brain to hang all the knowledge on. nancyt.
  23. I have the Living books curriculum grade 1, trying to sell, i enjoyed it, it is very good books. you have to be creative with activities, and I am not good at that. but their selection of books are greally good. nancyt.
  24. I like the suggestions of reading on Sonlight, Theyhave great grade level reading but they are not the phonetic appropriate books. they are real books kids can enjoy. nancyt.
  25. Easy Grammar is good, anylitical grammar is good, Shurley is great.
