  1. I have friends that use the DVD"s there are several families that do it together, I would love to be able to do the dvd's online, or any of them, we cant afford it. but we do use bob jones all the time. God bless each of you that can afford it, how awesome, We used to use the satellite for bob jones at a monthly rate. but we cant afford what they have now. Enjoy, GOd bless, nancyt.
  2. Hi we used that in our co-op for the past two years, We dont spend a whole lot of time, we may go over it for 5 minutes a day, but thats about it. she usually has the poem memorized by that time, and we do short ones once a week, the longer ones we do over 2-3 weeks depending on the length. once she has listened to it 2-3 times she just about has it memorized. but we definately dont do more than 5 minutes a day. nancyt.
  3. I like to ask the questions in the teachers book, but I accept just about any answer. My dd loves to do the worktext. that is one of her favorite things to do. suprisingly she also likes to do the read and think time drills by abeka for reading comprehension. nancyt.
  4. We like to use the states and capitals cd. that starts with california i believe. at least my daughter has memorized it. nancyt.
  5. We are going to be using Latina Christiana I for Co-Op next year and it will be 10 11 and 12 year olds in the class. We like the Latina CHristiana, I also Like first form latin, but some students have never tried so we decided to start slow with LCI NANCYT.
  6. We used phonetic zoo A, my dd loved it, she loved the independence it gave her, The only thing I did not like was the price, we didn't go to B. The cost is just too much for us as just a spelling program. It challenged her, she loved listening to the cd's on her headphones. I thought it was good, for me if i was the student i would have been bored, but that is the different learning styles. It is an excellent program, nancyt.
  7. Heart of Dakota is definitely excellent, I loved it, but my dd loves BJU so that is what we use. nancyt.
  8. I like going through out the year, we live in FLA and it is HOT during the summer, unless we go to the beach it is too hot to play outside. so we school in the summer and take off from thanksgiving to the new year, then start back up again. since we only do school 3-4 hours a day, they still have the rest of the day to do fun stuff. I like year round, however, we usually finish each grade early, but that is ok. nancyt.
  9. WOW!!! I wish my mother-n-law would give us books like that and support our homeschooling. I would love to have those books to teach my children. My mother=n=law is just the exact opposite, she opposes the things we teach. Life is interesting. nancyt.
  10. We really Like Bob Jones reading/literature My daughter loves the booklinks. the questions are thought provoking, and the activities are fun. The stories are great also. Nancyt.
  11. We have used both Abeka and Bob Jones, I prefer Bob Jones over Abeka. Bob Jones in all subjects seems to use more logic on the children than Abeka does. However, I must say they are both excellent programs. nancyt.
  12. I am in Pensacola where Abeka is made, and it seems that is the way to go for most homeschoolers around here, unless you are teaching classically, or charlotte mason. It is OK, we have used some over the years, We have been very eclectic. We were always told that "Boxed" curriculum is bad, need to do other things. Well my daughter going into 6th grade, looked at the samples of all the different styles and curriculum, and guess what she chose????? Bob Jones hands down, and even asked if she could use in every subject. We are in a co-op, so she will use all but history and science, then we do latina christiana. interesting. It is all in the eyes of the beholder. nancyt. :grouphug:
  13. We really like the bob jones english. That is our favorite, we have also done R&S and got bored. We have done easy grammar, its not to bad, We have done Abeka, but it includes alot of writing, and at the time we were using IEW. I have alot of friends that love Saxon Grammar, but have never tried it. My daughter picked out Bob jones to do on her own. she likes it so it works. But thankfully all our kids are different. nancyt.
  14. We are going into 6th grade and we really like the bob jones reading. This is also one my daughter picked out on her own to do. So i think that says alot by itself. nancyt.
  15. we use a variety. math - bob jones 6 Language Arts - Bob Jones english 6 reading = Bob jones reading 6 Spelling =- Bob jones spelling 6 handwriting = bob jones handwriting 6 science = exploring creation with anatomy and physiology History = Story of the World 4. These are my daughters choices. That is what she likes best.
  16. We are using Beautiful Feet Geography Guide that uses Holling C. Hollings books. It is really alot of fun. YOu can put as little or as much into the notebooking as you prefer, We really like doing the notebook, and following the maps. We are doing Minn of the Mississippi. It is about a turtle going up the Mississippi. You learn geography by following the maps. and do research and reasoning. nancyt.
  17. I am for the Principle approach, there are alot of books you can use and do the methodology of the principle approach. Any good living book would be a good candidate for the PA form of teaching. doing 4'ring, Research, Reason, Relate, Record. read a chapter of a text, get important vocabulary from it, look it up in the 1828 dictionary, look it up in the concordance, use the bible to draw out the main ideas, and principles, and teach it to your child. do alot of discussing for understanding. It is really a great program. nancyt
  18. The foundation for american christian education is a great place to get information. James Rose has a book it is one of the "Big Red Books" on the FACE website. that gives you a lesson in principle approach. His book is great, they also have a book on the website that is a self directed study that will teach you alot. It starts out by "De Schooling ourselves" and learn how to reason from a biblical standpoint. Once you really catch on it is awesome, and very deep, not just for the student but for yourself. nancyt.
  19. I really like the Noah Plan Curriculum, or just implementing the Principle approach, it does 4 r'ing, Research, Reason, Relate and Record. Everything is reasoned from the Word of God. You are doing a notebook approach, the teacher has a notebook also. not only do your children grow, but so do you as a person. I was a little bit slow at implementing it but, i am getting better, I have really been studying the methodology and it is awesome. God bless, nancyt.
  20. I consider our homeschooling style Charlotte Mason/Classical. Some people would consider or think that Charlotte Mason is like an unschooling or something, but Based on Charlotte Mason guidelines, it is as intense as classical, If you read about it on Ambleside. Those are some hard books. I love the short classes, afternoons free to be out of doors. I may have over looked it, but Simply Charlotte Mason has alot of good material on her web page. everything from Curriculum guidelines, Books for grades, I love their books they use for spelling called i think spelling wisdom, It uses dictation to learn spelling. all in context. WOW pretty cool. nancyt.:grouphug:
  21. We used the older version at first and switched, My dd got tired of watching the kids do things in the video that were unrelated to latin. I would think the newer would be best. nancyt.
  22. My daughter is in 5th grade I would love to have the kidney shaped table for our school room, I like being able to sit across from her and help with her work. It is a perfect table for art, games, or for cutting out patterns for sewing. Or just having a tea party. I like having a designated area for our school so we can post all our accomplishments, and even hang things we have done from the edges of the table. nancyt,.
  23. You definately need to know the TWSS to use Student Writing Intensive A. That way you can better teach your students, and understand what Andrew Puduwa is teaching on SWI A , We used SWI A with our elementary from 2-5 last year, Half way through we kept going with the fourth and 5th grade students the 2nd and 3rd we kept at the beginning and improvised a little, they had a harder time, but Mr. Puduwa advised to go at the pace of the child. HTH nancyt.
  24. Our co-op will be using this for middle school next year we are really excited about it. But we have a homeschool store that has it used. soo praise the Lord much cheaper. nancyt.
  25. We tried for the first time this year with wordly wise for 5th grade, I did not like it. From reading from Classical instructors and Charlotte mason instructors, when you take the vocab's from the books you are reading and the context of the reading the children will learn it better. So that is what we are doing. Right now our family reading is the narnia series, and we have a book that goes along with it that has vocab's for each chapter, we discuss them before reading the chapter then when we have read it all of us understand what is being said so much better. HTH nancyt. r
