  1. We love TT, we are now in TT6, we never use the textbook just the cd's. I think it covers everything very understandably and my daughter loves it and she gets it which is the most important aspect of the math. I really dont see how they are behind, because, each year you do your math in the same sequence as lets say saxon or what ever. you do math till you get to pre-algebra, then algebra and so on. TT is no different. If they dont teach the basics, Then the students would not get the higher math. If you do feel that your child can do more, put them up a grade. I know our classical school in our city starts saxon 1 in kindergarten instead of the K saxon. and in their 6th grade they are in 8/7 math. So, as with any curriculum, you the parent are in control, not the curriculum. Have fun and enjoy your children learning and enjoying at the same time. hth, nancyt.
  2. We have used tt 5 and now 6, my daughter loves them, told me just today that she doesn't want to use any other math. however, she NEVER has used the nextbook, she doesn't like textbooks at all. We do it all online, I didn't even buy the book this year just the cd's. I can print out her test grades for her portfolio. its all great. she has done better on the computer with this program, and grading her instantly to see any problems before they arise. I love tt. HTH, NANCT :)
  3. I LOVE teaching textbooks, we are in TT6, my dd told me today that she never wants to use another math program. She gets it, YEA!!!, math is our worst subject. She loves TT. all computerized, they do have a textbook, but we dont buy it, we just buy the cd's for the computer and go from there. It would be a great way for your child to learn and not needing you right by her side. hth, nancyt.:)
  4. Hi I need help, what is a good grammar program for 6th grade, i want one fun to do, not overpowering and time consuming. but will teach. Thanks for your input in advance....nancyt.
  5. Thank you everyone, You sold me!!!!! I have an opportunity to get one on ebay for a very reasonable price. So I think we will try it out. God bless, nancyt.:grouphug:
  6. Has any one used Legacy's learn and master guitar for homeschools? What did you think of it. Was it a good well rounded program or was it just a starter program only? Thank you. nancyt.
  7. If you can get past the cost of TOG or either buy it used, Then of course you have the cost of all the books for all the different levels. If that is not a problem, then Tog is an excellent choice. It has great notes for parents especially to discuss with the highschool students, it also has activities for the lower grammar stage and upper grammar stage. She has it all covered, and plenty of reading. other than cost, i think it is an amazing curriculum, and very intune to the classical bent. nancyt.
  8. When my family asks me what I want for my B-day or Mothers day, or Christmas, Its always money for my homeschool books, or they can order the books for me, (which they never do) They just cant understand why i want homeschool books. I am a homeschool addict!!!!! nancyt.
  9. We are using the anatomy with 5-6th grade in our Co-Op this coming year. We will use the regular notebook, and not the Jr. Notebook. It is great program, but I think it would be hard for younger elementary. nancyt.
  10. We have used apologia for 2 years in a row, and have had a great time doing the experiments with this program. This is the young explorers apologia. but there is something to do all the time. hth, nancyt.
  11. I also think Song school Latin is a good choice and not too hard, If your child is really advanced you could do Prima Latina and just do it slowly. Latin for Children is another good program but it would have to be done very slowly, but the dvd's with the guys girls on there are fun. nancyt.
  12. We love BJU, my daughter has tried alot of different books, but she picks out bju everytime. Praise the Lord there are so many available, so it can meet each childs learning styles. We are blessed to homeschool at such a time as this. nancyt.
  13. I am trying to have a set memorization time, from scripture memory, poetry, math facts, history facts, science facts, and do them with each consecutive subject. We TRY to do 2-3 minutes memorization with each one every day so not to do more than 10-15 minutes per day for all the subjects. My daughter loves memorization. i personally am not good at it I can repeat it with her each time, and i still never remember them. LOL but at least she does. nancyt.
  14. It's good so i understand, almost got into it, but i just could not fathom the cost to participate, and all the materials I would have to buy, and it was mainly just memorizing. and we still had to do a weeks worth of work at home. It just wasn't for us at the price that is expected. nancyt.
  15. I have such a hard time staying organized. As soon as i think I have everything, i try to get it all organized and I have left something out. I get so irritated with myself. I try so hard to be organized and the harder I try the more confused I get. I admire you moms that get it all organized and have no problems. Nancyt.
  16. Wow!! Each year we have done something different, We have used easy grammar, Shurley Grammar, Abeka Grammar, BJU english, (which is the one my dd loves the best) She changes how she feels about things year after year. There is a good article by Ruth Beechick in the most recent Old School House Magazine that I got today that discusses grammar. Very interesting. nancyt.
  17. IEW Rainbow Resource Cbd.com BJU Christian Liberty Press Rod and Staff Winter Promise I like them all, I wish I could use all the stuff in everyone of them but i would need about 100 hours a day. LOL
  18. I LOVE institute for excellence in writing, It is great and has all levels, nancyt
  19. Ambleside online has some great classics on there by level 0-12 nancyt.
  20. I tried rightstart, I had a problem I think because I was not taught that way and it was difficult for me to understand. I am by no means a math pro. quite the opposite, but I think I am fairly intelligent especially to reach children's level math. But I sold it and sent to something else. nancyt.
  21. We love the apologia also, we have done botony, astronomy, and will be doing anatomy this year. There are junior notebooks you can purchase for the younger children, as well as on JeannieFulbrights web page she has notebooking pages you can copy for most of the books, some with primary lines for the younger students, and standard lines for the older. It is really great it is conversational in nature. Just great!!!!! NANCYT.
  22. My dd loves BJU math, She looked at horizons, but didnt like it. She actually loves everything by BJU and picked it out herself. she is in 6th grade. nancyt.
  23. I would say that to teach IEW the way they want it taught you have to 1st learn their way of doing things with the dvd's and book for parents, then go on to the student books, It is good to learn for the parents, I learned alot in the IEW. It is a great program. We have taught it at co-op for the past 2 years, next year however, we are going to take a break. nancyt.
  24. I think for 6th grade since it doesn't go towards the highschool transcripts would be fine to just read and test. They will go over these concepts much more indepth when they are in the highschool grades. GOd bless, nancyt.
  25. They are great to purchase if you want to build a library, we purchased just the ones we could not get at the library. This is a great program. nancyt.
