  1. I finished What Angels Fear by CS Harris, the first St Cyr book. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm so glad I came back to the thread while you were all still reading the books :)
  2. Wordless: Nature Hike and After (http://ladydusk.blogspot.com/2014/09/wordless-wednesday-nature-hike-and-after.html) Wednesdays with Words: Theology Forms and Undergirds (http://ladydusk.blogspot.com/2014/09/wednesdays-with-words-theology-forms.html)
  3. Thanks. Did I mention it was from my phone? Our kids do not get the time when all you could do on a phone was call someone. Lol
  4. That would have been disappointing and frustrating!
  5. Here's the whole thing. It was stunning.
  6. It was harder than it needed to be. Done now :)
  7. I finished The Liberal Arts Tradition by Kevin Clark and Ravi Scott Jain. I liked it a lot even though a lot of it was over my head! Also, I thought I'd make sure you all noted that I'm changing my avatar. I've used a public domain pic for years, and thought I'd change to this photo I took on our way to the Outer Banks in June. We drove along Skyline Drive which follows the northern part of the Blue Ridge Parkway along the Appalachian Trail. It was absolutely stunningly beautiful. We saw a bear. Amazing and highly recommended. So, it is still a sunset picture (ladydusk doncha know) but it isn't so bright and pink LOL.
  8. Our Only Mae Amelia Bella at Midnight Heidi My daughter loves the Penderwicks and Redwall too.
  9. Jane, I've been thinking about this post all day. It was sooo beautiful. I think you should add blogging into your list of activities. I'd love to read your writings!
  10. Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday! I'm a bit behind. I finished Heyer's A Civil Contract and it was pretty good. Then I read Merely a Mister by Sherry Lynn Ferguson (cheap on kindle). It was fine. I've requested the first St Cyr book from the library. I am trying to read Chasing Francis and The Liberal Arts Tradition. But am being slow and avoidant.
  11. My friend Kelly went and posted some about what she heard: http://badgermum.blogspot.com/search/label/CiRCE%202014
  12. I've heard Angelina Stafford's talks were fantastic and Hodges' I always buy the whole thing, though.
  13. I've noticed this too. My son is in a difficult section and we are doing the teaching parts one day and the worksheets the next day. I also have been doing more pick and choose. Only one of the sequence patterns, not every teaching section. Also, even for the lessons we complete in one day, we do all the lesson portions and then they complete the worksheet more independently knowing I'm available to help. HTH
  14. I finished Georgette Heyer's Nonesuch this morning. I liked it, but didn't love it. I'm going to try her A Civil Contract next. So much for exiting Flufferton Abbey.
  15. The Creator sets are my preference. Lots of pieces, but few specialized pieces and the books generally have 3+ projects. They are the Lego's of my childhood.
  16. The same tradition as Hilary Mantel? The wars of religion in France? Sign me up. http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014/aug/16/historical-epic-by-frances-hilary-mantel-crosses-the-channel-robert-merle
  17. Here's this week's: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/525159-weekly-report-81514/
  18. I doubt you are placed wrong. Remember MEP is a classroom program and intended to have some collaboration. I help my kids think through those step by step. Also, when you come in at the middle (good for you!) remember that MEP has been teaching "Find the Rule and write it three ways" since Year 1. Your son is facing it with hard problems for the first time. I might look back at years 2 and 3 to find some examples with easier math and teach him how to work through those problems without the added strain of order of operations. We love MEP. I hope it goes well with you guys. Glad you're trying it out, Monica.
  19. They change amounts in the middle of the row/column. There are instructions somewhere ... I'll see if I can find/remember where.
  20. We are reading Mrs. Frisby right now and the kids can't get enough of it. My kids are 7,8,&9.
  21. I was wondering the same thing! Here's mine: http://ladydusk.blogspot.com/2014/08/weekly-report-for-august-11-152014.html
  22. My sentiments exactly. I could ILL though ...
