I read her ebook, and while a bit redundant at points, I found it helpful as I think through our philosophy of math. The other books are on my "borrow from the library" list for now.

It isn't a Christian math program, but some good reviews can be found here.

Moon Passes Venus TONIGHT (x-post)
ladydusk replied to jayfromcleveland's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I, too, appreciate the post (and am also in cloudy Ohio today) ... I was wondering if you have any experience with the new "Galileoscopes?" -
Poetry read aloud site
ladydusk replied to Lizzie in Ma's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Here's another. -
I'm thinking Green Eggs and Ham for dinner ... or maybe lunch, my husband doesn't care for breakfast for dinner (or silly theme-things)

I'm just finishing (tonight!) my second sewing class. Our local Stitching Post/JoAnne's have classes like this. In 101 we made pajama pants and now in 201 we're making the tops. I have a very basic (less than $200) White machine and it is great for a beginner! Does exactly what I need :) I, too, want to make little girl dresses/skirts (why are they so hard to find?!?) I wish designers/stores/clothes makers would make little girl clothes for little girls!

Would you use this in Grammar in place of WTM logic recs?

Friendship bread questions
ladydusk replied to Danestress's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just don't do what my mom did once and put it in a quart sized ziploc instead of a gallon. My brothers and I were less than pleased to have exploded bread goo all over our kitchens. -
s/o: English Majors: If you've got one
ladydusk replied to Susan Wise Bauer's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My sister has a double major in English and Religion. When she chooses to work (she lives a very simple, paid-for-farm-atop-a-hill-with-goats life) she's an editor ... and re-writes a lot of things, but her name is never on the book. -
Very cool video on the roles of government
ladydusk replied to mommylaw's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If you use Mozilla Firefox as your web browser, go here. Type "Ad block Plus" into the search function, download and install. There are all sorts of cool extensions for Firefox that make it user-friendly. Have fun searching! -
Very cool video on the roles of government
ladydusk replied to mommylaw's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If you use Firefox, there's an addon called "adblock plus" that will block a lot of those images (and you can selectively block with a right mouse selection). -
I chose "I like it, but he'll be teased"; but that's my husbands issue with the name. I would use it. We dont use Timothy, either ... (b/c of the Southpark character)

Can we do an updated favorite things thread?
ladydusk replied to rafiki's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
FMOG/FMOR? I don't see this on the abbrev. list and can't begin to guess LOL -
Would anyone like to start a postcard exchange?
ladydusk replied to Alicia64's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We'd love to be involved, as well. -
I would also mention that we followed Letter of the Week on the schedule from the Before the Code books. We also made a Letter Book (put "cotton balls" on the "c", cut up "underwear" on the "u" etc.)

I got one for Christmas and I LOVE IT! I use it all the time (I've sat down to work at my desktop maybe 5 times since Christmas; my desktop monitor looks huge now LOL) This does everything I need ... I use Google Docs so things are easy to transfer to the desktop if necessary (i.e. I haven't even installed MS Office) I have a MSi Wind Netbook the U100 Series. My husband ordered it from, um I think Newegg.com, and I think it might be this one. I tried it out at Best Buy first [grin] and my only complaint was that all the keyboard keys are normal sized and in the same place except the period [.]. It took me a couple weeks to consistently find it, but now I have no problem at all. ETA: If your TOG stuff is on CD-ROM, you'd have to get some sort of external drive, mine has no CD Drive, but plenty of USB Ports.

I enjoyed Letter of the Week, I didn't use everything (some of the crafts, food, projects, and book list!), but it probably would've been better if I had. hmmmmm ... that might be perfect for Nate :) Thanks for the reminder.

Do I want a freezer or second refrigerator?
ladydusk replied to teachermom2834's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have 2 chest freezers and would trade them both, in a heartbeat, for an upright freezer and second refrigerator. And probably just for an upright freezer. Even with the energy loss. -
Laughing so hard, because several of your "nos" have already been crossed off my list for the same reasons! I went to one of Dr. Pennington's sessions (I think his first in the very full, very warm room with my 8 month old) and it was wonderful, I hated to go outside, but had to 'cause of Bekah! Oh, and Dr. Perrin's pamphlet on Classical Ed has been so helpful to me as I plan out and combine WTM with W&E. Overall, I'm happy as there seem to be fewer on my hilighted list this year ('cause I hit them last year and either don't want to hear them or need to hear them again) I'm hoping that I'll have more "free periods" to shop because I have a list of curriculum to review for next year (unlike last year when I didn't have much to shop for and could just listen to talks)

Composition in the Classical Tradition
ladydusk replied to butterfly113's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I ILL'd it ... I would recommend looking at it before buying it. In the introduction the worldview was defined humanistically by the author. I was considering trying out some of the exercises, but that stopped me in my tracks. -
My dh is sleeping on the floor...........
ladydusk replied to Remudamom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We bought one of the sleep number beds this fall and *cannot* *say* *enough* *good* *things* *about* *it*. We absolutely love it! My husband also has back problems, thought he wanted something that was hard as a board, and has his set really low so when he side sleeps his spine is straight. It has helped him tremendously ... not needed to see the chiropractor nearly as often as before.
