  1. Inter-library loan to the rescue ... requested both Howard's End and the copy on the Landing ...
  2. I finished The Magic Apple Tree and it did not disappoint. I went to order Howard's End is on the Landing for my Kindle only to be denied! It's only in print. I'll have to wait. Maybe I should read Howard's End first ... Book Reviews 1. The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L Sayers 2. A To Z with C.S. Lewis by Louis A Markos 3. Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis 4. Perelandra by C.S. Lewis 5. The Magic Apple Tree by Susan Hill
  3. Only 12of 46 books I read last year were by men ... And half of them were read alouds or family Audio Book listening. I'm *this *close to finishing Susan Hill's Magic Apple Tree .... it is fantabulous.
  4. Posted. My son said, you write about everything we do for school every week? :)
  5. Can I have it in a sentence? Yikes. I hopped on here to tell you all how much I'm loving (LOVING) The Magic Apple Tree by Susan Hill. I'm halfway done. We had to be at basketball practices at 4, 6, and 8 last night -half an hour away- for my three children, so I essentially read for 4 hours (we drove to get something for dinner the other). It is fantastic. For those of you who remember my struggles, frustrations, and slow pace reading The Pilgrim at Tinker Creek last summer, this - this - is everything I had hoped Pilgrim would be. It's fantastic. I'm wishing I had purchased a hard copy instead of Kindle so I could see the structure more easily. Howard's End is on the Landing is going on my Kindle ASAP after I finish this, though. Fantastic.
  6. OK, so it's Thursday. And Thursday night, but here you are: Wordless: Mad Libs Circle Time Wordy: Distinguishing the Accidental from the Essential (quotes from Perelandra by C S Lewis)
  7. I finished Perelandra last night. It was quite good, although I certainly didn't understand all of it! Now to finish Alan Jacobs's book about Lewis. I also started The Magic Apple Tree by Susan Hill. Read some quotes on a blog and thought they were fantastic so bought it for my Kindle. It is lovely, but I'm not very far ... 6% or so :) Book Reviews 1. The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L Sayers 2. A To Z with C.S. Lewis by Louis A Markos 3. Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis 4. Perelandra by C.S. Lewis
  8. I do think you have to give this a little while ... 100-150 pages at least. I didnt get completely engrossed until the last 300-400 pages. Thankfully.
  9. I had no idea there were alternate translations! I did get the one you recommend as it was the complete one for Kindle.
  10. I hope to read Kristin Lavransdatter this year; it's on my Kindle ready to go!
  11. I felt that way about Island of the World by Michael D O'Brien. I read it a couple of years ago and the world simply stopped that day - nothing else happened. Unfortunately, the book is 900 pages long ... My poor husband & kiddos ...
  12. Wordy: Victim and Killer ... Alan Jacobs' biography of C S Lewis' thought life is fascinating. Wordless: Cool Excitement ... we got a new fridge! Yay!
  13. If you want to have breaks you must come back when it's time.

  14. LToW is The Lost Tools of Writing. I would guess OYAN is One Year Adventure Novel.
  15. I'm still working on The Narnian by Alan Jacobs and it is excellent. I'm also reading The Liberal Arts Tradition and enjoying it very much. I've gotten a couple of chapters into Perelandra but am not hooked like I was with Out of the Silent Planet. And I'm following the thread which is becoming a book in itself! Hooray for January :)
  16. We have a designated school room ... and the piano is not in it. The piano is in the dining room. The children do their rehearsal during our school day and practicing away from math and reading is necessary.
  17. We use Artistic Pursuits. I like the incorporation of Art Study into the projects. The projects work, too, which not being artistic I'm always happy about. This year we are taking Art class at our local Art Museum for homeschoolers. I love the going through the museum with the docent part. I don't love the projects ... I thought it might be more teaching them about how to draw, paint, model, etc. Instead it seems to be much more "here's supplies, have at them!" For Art resources: I love the Simply Charlotte Mason Picture Study Portfolio packs. The Masterpiece Cards are high quality, if a little small. I don't get them out as much as I expected to. Finally, the resource we use the most is ART Page a Day calendar.
  18. I read one poem a day during Circle Time after they've done their memory work from IEW's Poetry. We're reading the William Blake book now. We've read Shakespeare, Poe, Dickinson, Carroll, Frost, and some of the other anthologies. I like them a lot.
  19. My kids love (and still quote) O Lady Moon by Christina Rosetti: O Lady Moon, your horns point toward the east: Shine, be increased; O Lady Moon, your horns point toward the west: Wane, be at rest
  20. My just turned 8 in January is almost done with FLL3. I plan to move him along to 4 when he's done. My turned 9 in October is halfway into 4 and having absolutely no problems with it. It has been fine. I plan to start my 6.5 year old who is 30 lessons from the end of FLL2 in FLL3 when she finishes 2.
  21. I posted my Two-Week Schedule and Organizational Charts on my blog this week. Hope this helps someone else!
  22. Wordless: The kids made "Selfies" on the first day of school Monday. Wordy: Alan Jacobs "Obviously and Spectacularly Broke" a vow to not write more about Lewis and Narnia. I hope he breaks it again ...
