  1. Liberty's Kids is gone from Netflix now, it looks like :-(
  2. Yes, my dd has read it and really like it. It's on the Ambleside Online list, which we follow.
  3. Here's a link to the evaluations for WWE. You can use these to place your child. http://wtm-pdfs.s3.amazonaws.com/wwe/wweevaluations.pdf
  4. Me too. I was looking at Analytical grammar, but maybe we'll go for Advanced Language Lessons, too. My dd12 has gone through the series up through part of FLL4. Maybe I'll finish that up with her this summer and do SWB's Level 5 this fall. Looking forward to seeing samples.
  5. AO, WTM, MFW (currently, but don't know if we'll do this next year). We'll never give up our Ambleside and WTM ;-)
  6. I agree with this post. We've done Essentials this year. The IEW writing and math games have been very helpful (although I wouldn't want to do IEW every year), but the Essentials (EEL) portion has been very disappointing. I'm looking at purchasing Analytical Grammar to get my 12yo dd up to speed on her grammar.
  7. How old is your oldest? Having been through a year of CC, my advice is 'Do not start CC until your oldest is AT LEAST 9 IF NOT 10!!!' We had so many families in our group who's oldest child was 5 or 6, and then they had a couple in the nursery. You need to be home with your kids at these ages! Go on nature walks, go to the park, enjoy each other. The kids in our CC group who have been in the program for 5 or 6 years complain that they are sick of doing the same things year after year (orchestra song, same drawing lessons, etc). For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would want to have their child in the same program for that many years in a row. These kids are getting burned out. I tell everyone that my 11yo dd (now 12) got a lot out of the program. She is now going on to Challenge A, which looks great with the tutor we picked. The others, 9dd, 6(now 7) twin ds's, have not needed this program. They would have been better off at home this year. We're taking next year off of the Foundations community but may go back when my 9dd is getting ready for Challenge. I'll admit that YMMV, and our community/director have not been the most organized this year, but that's the experience we had.
  8. I have The Core and think it is a good read. It will be most useful to those who are schooling just a couple of kids at a time (a couple of kids followed by a gap in time and then a couple more kids). I find the schedule and ideas difficult for schooling all four of mine (12, 9, 7, 7). We are enrolled at a CC campus this year and won't be returning next year.
  9. Kelly - We're doing the same thing. We just started ECC and will begin CC next fall for the first time. We're really enjoying ECC and looking forward to our year in CC.
  10. Thank you all so much for your replies! I'm going to get everyone signed up and enjoy our first year in CC.
  11. Thank you both so much for your quick replies. I am really very excited about CC, but I was a little concerned to get involved with a group if I couldn't see it working for the whole fam. for longer than the first year. I am still definitely open the learning about the Challenge program over the next year, though. Do either of you have an opinion on the Essentials class? I'm thinking of putting my two oldest in, but I'm not sure. We currently do FLL for grammar ( oldest is finishing that up, though), and I'm not sure we'd like IEW as a writing program. All I can think of about it is when I read SWB say that the kids who go through it often end up writing with a very similar tone. That did not really appeal to me. I want my kids to have their own 'voice', so to speak, through their writing.
  12. Hi there - I'm considering enrolling my kids in CC this fall. They'll be 11(6th), 9(4th), 6(1st), and 6(1st). I have a few questions about the program logistics and wondered if anyone here might have some answers for me. What if we enroll and like it enough to stay for the following year. Would my oldest dd, who would then be 12(7th) HAVE to enter Challenge, or could she stay in Foundations for an extra year? She will have only gone through one year of Foundations at that point. Assuming I chose not to enter her in Challenge, could the others still be in Foundations if I just left her at home for that day? I know this sounds strange, but I'm not super keen on the looks of Challenge. My dd's been doing Ambleside Online for the last five years, and has read everything they read in Challenge for the first few years already. It doesn't seem like that part of the program will be a great fit for us. There's also a chance that we may enter our kids in the public school at high school age. I'm not really looking for a discussion of what program would or wouldn't be right for us as much as I am of the 'rules' of the system. Can I have an older child in a different homeschool program or public school while having youngers in Foundations? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
  13. OK. I found it in the 'Conversational Latin' part of the CD. Makes no sense to me that they would not put it in the particular lesson it is asked about in the workbook.
  14. My dd11 is working through LCI, and we're having troubles with the 'Translation' section. Do you know if translation is covered on the DVD or the CD, or anywhere other than the workbook? We don't see much of it covered (for example: 'Meum praenomen est' is in lessons 2-5, but I can't find it covered (pronounced) anywhere on the CD or DVD. P.S. I will admit to being kind of frustrated with this curric. right now. I know absolutely no Latin, so I bought the whole shebang, but it hasn't seemed to help ;-)
  15. This is good to know, Colleen. Thanks. I've got one in Prima and one in LCI now and was trying to figure out what would come next, too. I guess it's now First Form Latin rather than LCII.?.?.?
  16. I'm using them with my two 5yos. I am currently making up a whole bunch of them. I'm so excited about it. My kids are all interested in them, even the 8 and 10 year olds. The 10 year old is helping me make the bags up.
  17. Hello all, I am trying to place a couple of students into writing and grammar programs. 1) My 10yo dd is in Year 4 of Ambleside Online. She has not had much grammar other than copywork, narration from the AO readings. She is a beautiful writer. It comes very naturally to her. I'd like to start her in SWB's writing program, as well as either FLL 3 or 4 OR Junior Analytical Grammar. Could I start a 10 yo w/o much formal grammar experience in FLL 4? We tried FLL 1/2 when she was 6 or 7 and she did not like it. She's not much for the scripted lesson type of thing. Would Jr. Analytical Grammar be a better choice? Is 10 yo the right time to begin this program? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. 2) My 7yo dd is in Year 2 of Ambleside Online. She is not too keen on narrating etc. at this point. I also have 2 4yo sons, and I have not been great about keeping up with the 7yo's schooling, but she reads very well, etc. so I'm not horribly concerned about it at this point. Can she go right into the Year 2 workbook of SWB's writing program, or should I start her in the Year 1 workbook. She does fine on her copywork, etc. I'm looking to start SWB's writing program so I don't feel so overwhelmed every day with trying to make up copywork/dictation on my own. The samples look great. Just not sure exactly which levels to order for everyone. Thanks for any help! Jeanie
