  1. this, this, oh YES, this! This is what I have found on the private forum - I know I'm not alone, and I know it's not going to turn up in some random internet searh in 15 years time.
  2. I don't know what you mean. The forum is private = not searchable so it's been very good for venting / asking those questions I can't ask in general population. Being a forum we "get to know" each other and our kids. Those with older kids help younger, etc. I like it...it has certainly saved my sanity to be able to talk in "safety" with those who get it, without those who don't weighing in.
  3. I belong to an internationally based private forum. It's a good place to vent. You could message me if you want the joining info. You can keep your cheezels though. Bleurch. I'm cilling to share my burger rings.
  4. No results up here yet either - DS got High Distinction in both. He's dyyyyyyyying to know if the one he thinks he got wrong really is the only one wrong.
  5. Certificates just came through on email (literally just now) - it says results are online, but DS says not on his account yet. ETA: now that I read for comprehension, it says resluts for CAT will be online in the next week or so
  6. KiwiK, we missed entries for those this year, but hope to enter next year. We have withdrawn all entries for ICAS and lodged a formal complaint about the discrimination toward homeschooled kids. Dig Tech and Science already arrived so I let the kids have a look at them - DD got a perfect score on Science and DS missed 1, both are well within medal range for dig tech too, so I can now say that, EAA actuallY HAS stolen at least one medal from my kids this year, not just might have. Sigh.
  7. There's a new trick here I've met a few times now, where pair of (usually) young women come to the door asking for help with their "homework" from "Language School" (they have all been ESL speakers, almost all Asian). They then produce a bible and start asking if you understand the meaning of certian verses. UGH! I chalk it up to another layer of the dishonesty I keep seeing in religion. entirely OT, I would LOVE to see photos if it weren't too invasive! Your house sounds amazing.
  8. DD is really enjoying her trial on Reflex Math
  9. I need to update this. As of the letter I received today, and after an afternoon of pointless discussion, home schooled students are not eligible for medals, full stop. If you want to eligible you have to get a school to enter them as part of their school, not as homeschoolers. Of course they didn't bother telling us this when I asked for the terms and conditions at the beginning of the year, or until after we had paid for entires. I am not very happy this evening.

    WWYD?

Can you move her on to a different curriculum so it's not so obvious?
  11. some of us are on Pitt, Chathams and Stewart. Maybe a few on Codfish and Qual too. Mwhahahaha, you'll never find us all
  12. thinking of you. I hope it is all going as well as it can.
  13. I'm going to be interested too - DS Is my independent math kid now, Life of Fred + Khan. I don't think I've directly *taught* him maths for a year or more... some times he brings me something to talk through, but mostly he explores on his own. So no idea how this will go for him! I was a meanie and made him do both today, one after the other. His dad says he was tired by the end.
  14. I sent the boy to work with his daddy to do the round 2 challenges under the supervision of someone in the office. I got an email from just now saying: "Mum, I did it! I worked to the very last second, but I did it!" I think I'll take from that that he enjoyed it. How long for results, does anyone know?
  15. yep, used it from 3.5 with DS, more like 4 with DD. I provided a ruler or other straight edge to line up against, or we did it as a team if it was really too much. Both kids when right through Miquon in about 2 - 2.5 years. It's the best start I could have hoped for for them.
  16. I'll add a vote for Miquon Also the Sir Cumferene books, Penrose mentioned above, The Number Devil and a beautiful book I wish I'd bought instead of borrowing from the library approximately 1.7 billion times is "You Can Count on Numbers"
  17. If it's not Ansty Labs it's a rip off version
  18. I have used corrective reading with multiple children over many years as a teacher and tutor. It is a powerful learning tool. There are placement tests to see if the child is ready for it.
