  1. The main thing that has pretty much eliminated my allergy problems is acupuncture once a month. I used to be on decongestants daily and since I started with the acupuncture (I think it's been 8 years now), I haven't taken any allergy meds. For my kids, I have them up their Vitamin C intake and herbs like eyebright. I do have some homeopathic allergy remedies that dd likes to take, and she thinks they are helpful (one brand is Allercetin).
  2. Idaho's very easy - no filing, no reporting, nothing.
  3. I bought some from the Green Polka Dot Box and it was fine. I buy food at Amazon and the Green Polka Dot Box.
  4. If it's Marantha brand, they have one version (the no-stir) that has sugar and then the regular version with oil on top w/o sugar. The one with sugar is always cheaper at my store and I've almost purchased it before I looked at the label.
  5. If you can get ahold of this book, it may be helpful. Some things aren't helped by trigger points, but dh and I have been amazed how many things are. http://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Therapy-Workbook-Self-Treatment/dp/1572243759/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340889897&sr=8-1&keywords=trigger+point+therapy
  6. I just made some little truffles out of ganache yesterday for the kids and me. I didn't have any chocolate, so had searched for a recipe that used cocoa and found one that is quite good. It's not exactly the same thing as using a good dark chocolate bar, but it's close enough and didn't stop me from eating it off a spoon! I used 2/3 c cocoa and 3/4 c sugar: http://www.preparedpantry.com/Recipes/Cocoa-Ganache.htm
  7. That's an issue here, too, even though our suburban lot is about 1/2 acre. We do have chickens, but there's not a lot of work involved with 5 chickens and there's just not a lot of physical labor to be done around the yard. I usually do the mowing (riding mower) because I don't mind it and there are too many flower beds and things to mow around and ds isn't quite adept at that part of it yet. I keep asking dh to find someone who needs physical labor done and hire ds out. . .he hasn't found anything yet. Both kids have chores and things they're asked to help out with, but it's mostly housekeeping.
  8. We don't have a Roku, but use a computer hooked up to the TV for Prime and it's also equipped with Windows Media Player that acts like a DVR. Not everyone has an extra computer to use for the TV, but if you do, that's an option.
  9. I love Prime, too. I don't have to try to find enough things to make a $25 order to ship free (saving some money that way) and we really enjoy the instant streaming.
  10. I'm more inclined not to, but dh does (except at carryout pizza at Domino's or similar). But carryout at a regular restaurant and even at a coffee shop, he'll tip. He used to work food service for many years and I think that's why.
  11. I say go for it. My grandma and her brothers used to eat popcorn and milk - I'm not sure it was for breakfast, but maybe as a snack. But there's not much difference between that and cereal.
  12. He sounds like a very wonderful man - thank you for sharing that :grouphug:
  13. I think all the new ones run hot to avoid potential food poisoning. My mom has frequently bemoaned the fact that she got rid of her old one that she loved, because she thought it was too old, and the new one runs too hot and boils everything. I bought a 6qt roaster oven instead (goes from barely warm to 425F) and love it. It doesn't have the heavy crock, but it's so much more versatile and the only thing I cook in my crock pot now is dry beans (since I don't care if they boil). This is what I got: http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-4816-12G-6-Quart-Porcelain-Cookwell/dp/B003I4F6NG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340656915&sr=8-2&keywords=nesco+6qt+roaster+oven
  14. When we got a second cat, we kept the kitten in a cat kennel (the fold-up ones you can travel with) for several weeks while our older cat got used to her. He acted like he wanted to kill her for awhile, so we thought she'd be safer in the kennel. He finally got over the wanting to kill her, and we felt safe letting her roam free. However, they never became best buds - didn't groom each other, or even sleep next to each other that often. They'd occasionally play, but mostly just tolerated the other.
  15. You might check out Decent Exposures. They're more like a sports bra, but very supportive (I've got a 32-33" band and G cup). They're my everyday, comfortable bra. You can get custom sizes and they will do resizing work for free after you get it and try it on (if the straps are too long/short, cup needs resizing, etc.) If you completely don't like it, they will refund your money, too (I had to do that once when the fabric I chose was just too stretchy). http://decentexposures.com/
  16. I've got a curvy shape - wide hips and smaller waist - and have always had trouble finding jeans. And then gaining some weight after having kids made it even worse. Dh and I spent several hours at the mall one time, with me trying on all sorts of jeans, in all sorts of price ranges. If they fit in the hips, they had huge gaps in the waist. I stumbled across a pair of jeans at a thrift shop that fit, and later on realized they were men's jeans hung incorrectly in the women's racks. That led me to try men's jeans and men's Levi 569s fit really well for some odd reason. I don't even bother trying on anything in the women's dept anymore.
  17. Possibly. We try to go to Yellowstone every year and have only seen bears on 2 trips (and one of those was in Grand Teton National Park going into Yellowstone).
  18. Same, but the kids have been taught to knock if the door's closed, and they're pretty good about it.
  19. Mine are typically beginning cycle migraines, but I do sometimes get them mid-cycle. I tried a lot of supplements before finding a neurologist to help (I chose him because he had a free headache seminar and I liked his dual approach of supplements and prescription meds). In addition to the magnesium, some other supplements that can help are B-2 and Co Q-10. He also recommended trying Gatorade when I feel one starting to come on and that will sometimes stop them (I don't typically drink Gatorade because of the stuff in it, but he says there's something about how it's formulated and the other drinks like it don't seem to work as well). I tried it last month and it did actually help. I do have to take prescription meds, though - and after suffering for years and trying all sorts of stuff, I know for me, they are necessary to not have days where I'm on the couch.
  20. I sew and crochet, and used to do cross stitch (I got carpal tunnel when I was pregnant and can't do the fine handwork anymore). I sew clothes and do quilting, and crochet sweaters mainly. I've tried knitting, but just couldn't get the hang of it.
  21. My dh doesn't like ww pasta. I can get away with mixing a little bit of it with regular spaghetti, but he really dislikes the taste and texture.
  22. I don't have a lot of non-carpeted areas (dining area/kitchen, bathrooms, and an area downstairs), but use the Dyson on all of it (I really don't ever mop, maybe once a year. . .). It has a setting to turn the brush off for bare floors, although I typically don't.
  23. Well, I love my Dyson. I've had it at least 8 years and still am amazed at how much stuff it picks up. I love not having to deal with changing bags - I just have to take the canister out to the big garbage can outside and pull the lever and it's done. I hated trying to get the bags attached and in the vacuum and then making sure they were inflating and working right, plus all the dust that collected in the fabric outer bag that just got blown around the house when the vacuum was on. I like that the Dyson filter is not inside the canister - it's outside and only needs to be washed every 6 months (and it's washable and you don't have to buy a new one). The canister also comes apart so you can get inside and clean it out every now and then if the little holes get clogged. I recommended it to my Mom, who also loves hers, and then she and my stepdad bought my stepbrother one as a housewarming gift.
  24. I agree. I wouldn't trust the cooler temps to stay constant in all areas or necessarily keep the food at a safe temperature. I wouldn't want to risk food poisoning on a trip.
