  1. I'll second this. If you keep things in your cart, you'll be alerted to if they've gone up or down in price, and this site will show you the price history of items: http://www.camelcamelcamel.com/ You don't have to sign up to use it, but if you do, you can have it email you when something goes down in price a certain amount.
  2. This is what I use: For each pound of meat: 2 t salt 1/4 t pepper 1 t chili powder 1 t garlic powder 1 t onion powder 1/4 t ginger cayenne if you want it spicy You can vary the amount of spices to suit your taste - another version I have doesn't have the chili powder in it, and uses curry powder. I use an extruder I bought at Walmart to make jerky strips and then dry it in my dehydrator.
  3. This is the only reason I print some of our stuff out - dh has been given many laser printers that businesses were getting rid of because they were upgrading to something new. In most cases, there was nothing wrong with the printers, and I often ended up with the extra print cartridges, too. So for the past 5+ years, the only thing I've had to buy was paper. I have checked on the price for a new cartridge for my current printer, and it's quite reasonable for the number of pages it prints, but I haven't used up the cartridge that came with the printer yet.
  4. I had NEM but after all the rave reviews about AOPS, I bought Algebra I and Intro to Counting and Probability. We started into the Algebra I this fall, but ds really hated it. I'm not sure what exactly was setting him off, but he thought it was difficult (this is my child that tends to fall to pieces if he can't get things right fairly easily - we've been struggling trying to teach him to actually *work* at things because he is bright). So I switched him to NEM (we'd used Singapore all the way before that), and he instantly liked it much better. I'm still waiting to see if I'll try to add Intro to Counting in at some point, but NEM has definitely been a better fit here.
  5. I would recommend the Nutrimill over the KA grinder attachment. I had the KA grinder for a number of years and used it quite a bit, but it really doesn't grind the wheat fine enough (at least for us). I couldn't make a bread with it that worked well for sandwiches or toast because of the coarser grind. I bought a Nutrimill and *love* it. I also purchased a Bosch for making bread because although I do like the KA quite well, it just couldn't handle the larger batches of bread like a Bosch does. So if you can afford it, I think the Nutrimill and Bosch is the way to go.
  6. If you want to self-publish, check out CreateSpace. I've used it for a number of books (helping a friend get her books published) and we've been very happy with it. They assign an ISBN and will make it available on Amazon. The only upfront costs are costs to get proofs of the book for yourself, to check and review. https://www.createspace.com/ Lulu.com is another option, but I think CreateSpace is better.
  7. I second the protein. My ds finally realized that he had many less meltdowns during school when he ate something with a good amount of protein for breakfast. But if I told him to eat protein for breakfast, he balked. So it was awhile before he saw that what I was saying was true and decided that it really was beneficial to him. It can easily become another battle of wills, unfortunately. I guess I'd try backing off him to eat and only have available things that would be beneficial for him (we don't drink milk, but I wouldn't have chocolate milk in the house because of all the sugar, which isn't going to help). I really don't think he'll starve himself, but may thrive off the attention he's getting from you trying to get him to eat.
  8. I don't think that's shaming. My ds (and occasionally dd) will react as if I'm telling them they're dumb when they get things wrong in school, and I've tried to explain that unlike being creative where there isn't right/wrong, you can't be creative like that in math. Math has rules, and right and wrong answers. It doesn't mean they're stupid, just that they need to work harder or go about the problem differently.
  9. :iagree: I love wood cutting boards and used one for everything until I got a dishwasher. Now I have 2 inexpensive, plastic ones that I can throw into the dishwasher when I'm finished w/ them and not have to hand wash.
  10. We've just started using Inquiry in Action: http://www.inquiryinaction.org/ My kids really love it so far, and it's very hands-on, easy to do, but very engaging. I was honestly surprised at how much they like it and look forward to doing the experiments. And it's free to download, which makes it even better :)
  11. At the bottom of your homepage on Facebook, there's a light blue bar, and on the right hand side, it should have Edit Options. If you click that, it will bring up the list of people and apps you have ignored and you can click the X to un-ignore :)
  12. That's what we do, too - commercials are always muted right away. The kids are trained really well now and know to change channels if there's a scary/violent commercial or preview, too.
  13. I got some from someone on this list - I chose someone geographically close to me and he sent out wonderful milk grains for the cost of postage: http://www.rejoiceinlife.com/kefir/kefirlistUSA.php
  14. The Organic Valley milk at our store is only ultra-pasteurized in the half gallons, but the gallons are just pasteurized. So I only buy the gallons. Are the gallons not available where you live?
  15. I don't know about sending it in, but here's a link to different types of repair for paperback books: http://www.wikihow.com/Repair-a-Paperback-Book
  16. Most of ours is communal - but dh and I both have separate checking accounts in addition to our joint acct. We both earn a little bit of extra spending money that we keep separate for fun stuff, that isn't counted in the budget.
  17. I've been signed up with Ebates for years now. They are very reliable and although I don't earn a lot of money, it's nice to get some back on things I was going to order anyway.
  18. We've ordered from Zenni 3 different times now, and have been very pleased with the glasses. Dh, I, and both dc have glasses from them.
  19. I have always had 29-30 day cycles and several years ago (early 30s) my cycles started getting a lot shorter (by a week or so - which wasn't making me particularly happy). I started taking chaste tree berry (Vitex) and that got my cycles back to normal for me. I'm taking a perimenopausal supplement now that contains chaste tree.
  20. Sounds like a glitch - I never have to remove things from my queue - once they're sent they get moved up to the top and show that they're sent and then once they receive the movie back, it gets removed and doesn't show up anymore. . .
  21. What worked for us was shelving boards from Lowe's or Home Depot (they're white melamine with a rounded front edge and come in 8 ft or 10 ft sections I think). We cut those to length and used white L shelf brackets. We made the spacing between the shelves high enough to accommodate the tallest books and then just put as many as would fit on the wall. They're not beautiful, but for the space we had, it was the easiest and most cost effective way to put up a lot of shelves.
  22. This was actually an after Christmas present because it was on sale at Amazon and had great reviews - we've had it 2 days now and the kids *love* it. It's been a much bigger hit than any other Wii games we have (or have rented): http://www.amazon.com/Active-Life-Explorer-Mat-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B003LDKH2E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293729820&sr=8-1 It's very active - and unlike some of the other Wii games that you can sit and move the remote, this one requires a lot of moving and running, etc. I highly recommend it and it's still on sale!
  23. I know it's too late now for dinner last night, but you can either buy jarred sweet and sour sauce, or make your own. Most of the recipes I've used call for pineapple and the juice. One I use is 1 c pineapple juice, 1/4 c sugar, 2 T vinegar, splash of lemon juice and then thickened with about 2T of cornstarch. You can use the pineapple pieces in the mixture w/ the pork and veggies, and either pour the sauce over all of it or let each person use as much as they want.
  24. You could do a sweet and sour pork with stir fried veggies over rice.
