I just splurged on a Zojirushi bread machine and am looking for recipes to try. Post your favorite recipe here! (and any setting instructions or advice)

iPod for 5th birthday?
Sandy in Indy replied to KristinaBreece's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My thoughts exactly. If you had to purchase it--no way! Since you already have it--sure. -
Gluten-free pizza
Sandy in Indy replied to MaryCatherine's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I use the Chebe mix, too. I have it on Subscribe and Save through Amazon. DH loves it! -
This is our holiday favorite. I make this for Christmas morning (and an egg/sausage casserole in the crockpot). Yum! Overnight French Toast 1 loaf of cinnamon swirl bread 3 cups of milk OR half & half (It’s better with half & half. It's only once a year; go for it!) 2 tsp. vanilla 6 eggs cinnamon sugar, butter, syrup Spray a 9 x 13 pan with PAM. Beat 6 eggs; add milk and vanilla and whisk until foamy. Let it sit while you cut the bread up into cubes. Spread the cubes in the bottom of your prepared pan. Pour the egg mixture over top. Gently toss with your hands until the bread is all moist. Cover with plastic and refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight. In the morning, uncover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Serve with cinnamon sugar, butter, and/or syrup.

Anyone watching Project Runway this season?
Sandy in Indy replied to unsinkable's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm watching. I was happy to see Olivier go--his obsession with beige about did me in. I like Anya and Bert. I'm hoping Joshua goes home soon; he's not *that* great, and his arrogance is annoying. -
Considering dropping teching textbooks, good idea?
Sandy in Indy replied to justLisa's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have never used the elementary programs. But my math-inclined ds did Alg 1 & 2 and the Pre-Calc books--by himself--and then went to CC for Calculus as a hs senior. (and was tops in the class) His SAT scores were great. I think TT doesn't cover topics in the same schedule or method as other programs and is often seen as behind. All I know is that it worked for us. Younger ds will pick up TT Pre-Alg in a couple of years, and I look forward to his success as well. -
I was in that same boat...it just didn't get done last year. I chose to go back and do the 4th book.

I normally don't worry about PE. (not required to report here) The last couple of years, I've sent ds to a PE class at the Y. He loves it!

I did it! I pre-ordered the kindle fire.
Sandy in Indy replied to DarlaS's topic in General Education Discussion Board
There's several available on ebay...already. I'm waiting till I actually get the device before I order the cover. (That way there's more time for options to show up!) -

I made the leap, too. I NEVER buy something that's just come out, and I usually take months to mull over a purchase. (Took me 3 months to choose a TV and another 4 for a stand!) I've been drooling over Ipads, though, and this looks like it will do what I want for a lot less money. -
Use these eggs or not?
Sandy in Indy replied to Sandy in Indy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks. Eggs are so expensive right now. I just hated the thought of having to pitch them. -
I discovered at 10 this morning that the 36 eggs I purchased at Sam's yesterday afternoon had not been refrigerated. I stuck them in the fridge and ran to church. So what says the hive? Usable or not?

I didn't have a chance to post this earlier. Dan Rather did an extremely interesting documentary on the state of Detroit schools earlier this year, A National Disgrace. It's available on Itunes for $1.99. http://itunes.apple.com/us/tv-season/a-national-disgrace/id414506840?i=437112940

Does your co-op have a website?
Sandy in Indy replied to Dobela's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If you had 10 families, I'd tell you to go with homeschool-life.com. It's very user-friendly (click here, here and here...voila!) It's only $6/year/family. That's what my group uses. -
Calling Dr Moms....Urgent
Sandy in Indy replied to Jann in TX's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You have been on my mind and in my prayers. What a nightmare! If you do not get better results from the hospital, I think I would threaten to report them to the Medical board or the Joint Comission and see if that generated more cooperation. If not, then I would report them. The treatment your dd received and the lack of cooperation is not acceptable. -
I've had exams at more than one Costco, and I've always been pleased. A glasses exam runs about $50. My dh had his exam at Sam's last time and was happy with that, too. The glasses we've ordered from Costco and Sam's have been quality glasses at decent prices. Costco has really good prices on kids' lenses. (I helped a friend with her dd's, and I think they were $18 for the lenses.)

Sandy in Indy replied to Jann in TX's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Praying for you here. I am surprised that the ambulance dropped her off. (I think I'd be checking on that. She should have been escorted in and seen immediately.) You absolutely did the right thing. Keep us posted. -
Cutting the spines off books
Sandy in Indy replied to joannqn's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Terrible job! I'd go back and complain. I've taken several books to Kinkos and had good results but I think I might try the "break the spine" method next time! -
I took antibiotics for acne as a teen. I don't remember how long, but they did eventually work. I did continue to have mild acne but nothing like the pizza face I had for a while... At 50+, I still get the occassional blemish. My son, however, was not successful with antibiotics, topical or ingested. (He was very lax about facial care.) Out of desperation, we did Accutane. He took a long course and was monitored carefully because of cholesterol issues. It di work for him. I think if you have a teen who is willing to comply with a regime then I'd do that before drugs.

Thanks for the reminder!

I'm so sorry! My dh was like that for years. One year I got completely mad and told him that Christmas was the same day every year...our anniversary was the same day every year...my birthday is the same day every year... About that time, he caught on. He's been much better about remembering ever since.

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, that
Sandy in Indy replied to BMW's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm sure that must have hurt... I hope you can talk about it and resolve your feelings. It sounds like you have done a great job of helping the boys remember and honor their mom. I'm sure that by doing so you have taught them to honor you as well. I'm wondering if your dh just thinks that her ashes need a place to go rather than the closet shelf...and figured the easiest thing to do would be to tuck them in with him. That sounds like something my practical dh would come up with. -
Amazon Prime and instant videos
Sandy in Indy replied to Night Elf's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just to add that if you have the half-price paid student account, streaming is included. There's lots of free stuff! Not everything and not many NEW things. (Sometimes the first episode of a series is free, though.) We're thrilled with Amazon Prime--and I'd pay full price for it. I've ordered several "oops, forgot that" kind of things which show up in two days regardless of my order total AND we're able to access lots of video. My ds is in Dr. Who heaven!
