  1. It hasn't been used regularly, hasn't been sitting out in a 100 degree car for multiple summers, has been in storage in a cool basement, and is only a few months past expiration. I'd use it in a HEARTBEAT.
  2. I've seen beer freeze as soon as you pop the lid so it's no longer under pressure so I don't think that's an issue. The potatoes are going to be a problem; they don't freeze well at all. They thaw out all grainy and gross. I always add the taters after pulling from the freezer.
  3. ~60 miles west/SW of Knoxville. In the process of moving there from NJ.
  4. I remember reading it as a kid and bawling my eyes out. Old Yeller too...
  5. If it's something that you've got a history of, and doc has given you explicit instructions then of course! Hope you're feeling better soon--
  6. Oh Lord, praying for healing for your son...wisdom for the doctors, and strength for you and your family.
  7. But what do you HAVE? Do you even have something those particular ABX will treat? What's the diagnosis, or did doc just say "Take these if you don't feel better tomorrow."? Crazy stuff, IMO.
  8. And what exactly did the doctor mean by giving you a prescription and leaving it up to you "if you need it"? How are you supposed to determine whether you need it or not? I mean, either you need antibiotics or you don't...and the doc is supposed to determine that, last I knew. Seems crazy to me.
  9. And, yer not s'posta, but we used all of our family's email addresses and got a few coupons. shh, though...
  10. Sign up for the "my lowes" card - all they take is your email address, and you can use a fake name. You don't have to do anything further...at all. The "my Lowes" card is just a card you can scan at the register that records your purchases for future reference. For us, in the middle of a huge renovation, it simplifies returns, and provides a record of what size/color/model number of an item we might need to recall. But you don't have to even request a card, much less use it, to get the coupon! http://www.lowes.com/cd_MyLowes_759287343_?cm_sp=NoDivision-_-MyLowesINT|A0-_-Corp|MyLowes_10Fall
  11. Maybe both - the copy editor would've caught the "chord" spelling error...
  12. I never dreamed I'd love the Kindle, but I do. I have the $79 version and my only envy is with the Fire, I could browse the web. Otherwise, love it. SO easy to read, and my close vision is failing; I can increase the font size to where I can read without my glasses, which is a huge plus. Not to mention being able to use a "search" function on my books (my books are mostly reference books: gardening, etc.). Also, if you've got amazon prime, they have a great Kindle lending library. (looking back, I see you know this already lol) LOVE the kindle!
  13. We use lots of Lodge cast iron as well. Several sizes of frying pan, griddle, wok, chicken fryer, and dutch ovens lol. We renew the seasoning after each use: 1. Rinse with hot water and scrubber 2. Wipe dry 3. Heat on the burner over low/med heat to make sure the pores are dry 4. While still hot, spray/wipe on a thin layer of oil, wipe off excess They're not "nonstick" but darned close. I dislike "nonstick" pots & pans - once I saw the surfaces peeling off, I could only imagine all the chemicals that have been leaching into our food. Cast iron leaches iron into the food. That's generally "good". eta: We have the Lodge wok, too. It's incredibly heavy and big...but it heats so evenly, it's fabulous!
  14. Kids (esp. unmarried males) cost a mint - our insurance nearly doubled (NJ) when we added my son years ago. Unfortunately it's the way it goes. USAA is fantastic, we love their services - have you tried their checking account? It gets you a (small) discount on the insurance and it's really great.
  15. We're paranoid, neurotic preppers. I can't think of the last time our fridge had more than a milk-jug's worth of open space. Our problem is quite the opposite - we're constantly shuffling the fridge around to make room, when we do go shopping. (We've also got two deep-freezers in the basement that're always full. This allows us to buy a lot whenever we see a great sale, and saves us a lot of money in the long run). I can't even entertain the thought of the fridge being empty without going into a panic attack lol.
  16. It's a sound similar to a "traditional" TV (the kind with a tube). I've always been able to hear from the next room whether a TV was turned on or off, even if the sound was muted. It's a godawful sound, for sure!
  17. Cats are such fabulous companions; I'm sorry you're having to part with yours. It's a sad time, and justifiably so.
  18. Reader, I didn't mean to sound like I was implying insensitivity on your part. It's just that a lot of times it's hard to see that we're not thinking clearly about it from the animal's perspective. I'm sorry if it came across as accusatory. (Not sure what I edited it for either, don't recall - I do tend to hit the "submit" button prematurely and come back and add more info if I think of something else relevant...)
  19. When the negatives outweigh the positives - on the part of the PET. Times like this we have to detach from our own feelings and do what's right for the animal, despite our own feelings. Too many people allow a beloved pet to suffer because they "just can't bring themselves to do it to her." When in actuality it's selfishness holding them back; the person doesn't want to suffer and feel guilty. I've put several pets to sleep for various reasons and it is a PEACEFUL experience, not a traumatic one.
  20. Very sad (although 100% preventable) about the rabies. I had a dog with a brain tumor who snapped as well. Went berserk suddenly. It's why you can NEVER 100% trust a dog with a small child, no matter how good the dog is.
  21. The Fiskars mower is on Amazon's deal of the day for 26 more minutes: $152.99, which is a great buy IMO. http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27
  22. Get rid of them now, if they grow in and put pressure on the other teeth, not only will they cause pain (that can be vague and sometimes the person doesn't even associate it with the wisdom teeth...) but they can push the other teeth out of alignment. My sister was getting abscesses on her head, near her temple, and after quite some time suffering with them, she went to the dentist and he identified the abscesses as a secondary effect of the TMJ syndrome that was caused by the pressure from her developing wisdom teeth. It's SO much easier to do it before it becomes a problem.
