  1. Hello, Our family is currently living in Kansas, but will be moving to the CDA area the end of May. We have 5 children and have been homeschooling for 10 years. We have 4 boys and 1 daughter. By the way, our 11yr. old son would love a pen pal if anyone in that area has a son who'd be interested. Anyways, we'd love to make some homeschool connections before we get moved. I'd love to hear what groups and coops are available too. :)
  2. Here is a give away for the family: http://homeschoolgiveaways.com/2012/08/giveaway-2-winners-studyladder-year-membership-valued-88-each/comment-page-2/#comment-62858
  3. This is a really neat give away. If you win they won't only give you one grade level, but three. Check it out here: http://homeschoolgiveaways.com/2012/08/giveaway-dvd-writing-curriculum-5-winners-choice-3-grade-levels-eac/
  4. I hope you can still enjoy the day. It must be hard not having your boys home. Hang in there & God bless!
  5. Wow, everyone has such wonderful traditions. Krissik, it's never too late to begin making your own traditions. Princessmommy, I wish I was close to your church. That sounds like such a neat activity. Margaret, I'll be praying your all well this Easter. Well, I need to get to bed shortly. Tomorrow will be the first time we've ever made it to our Sunrise service. Every year there has either been a baby or sickness keeping us from being able to go, so we are looking forward to this year. Many blessings to each of you on this special Resurrection holiday!!! By the way, It's my favorite holiday too:001_smile:.
  6. Being a parent can be so hard at times. But it's times like these that remind us we are doing what we're suppose to be doing. How rewarding:).
  7. Our family does not do the so called easter bunny. Instead we hide a stuffed lamb, representing the lamb of God no longer in His tomb. Whoever finds the lamb gets to pick a prize out of a basket. Most of the prizes consist of items from the local Bible book store & have scripture on them. We will often do a bible drill & scavenger hunt for things listed in the passover scriptures. Then we enjoy resurrection cookies & caramel apples. I would love to hear some of your traditions!!:bigear:
  8. So many wonderful recipes! I enjoy my green smoothies with pineapple, spinich, & flax seeds. If I juice I enjoy 1 apple, 1 beet, & 1-2 carrots. This is very healthy & good for healing the liver.
  9. I use frozen fruit for my green smoothies all the time. It's not as good as fresh (organic & local), but is close enough.
  10. With so many choices I figured there had to be something for everyone.
  11. Here is the link to enter to win a large variety of homeschool curriculum & books. http://homeschoolconvention.com/hedua/?page_id=196 Who couldn't use some free curriculum????:001_smile:
  12. Karen, thank you for the link. I'll check it out. For this next year my ds wants to do Switched on Schoolhouse, I agreed to letting him use SOS for english & maybe science. He decided he liked Math U See better for math & I'm working on putting together enough of a "Heart Of Dakota" curriculum for him to have highschool history & bible. We're still working on what French curriculum to do & he'll be doing art through Blender. He is a very good independent learner for the most part, but I'm hoping the blend of curriculum styles will keep him interested. Letting him pick out part of his own school work while I choose the rest will hopefully encourage him a little. I've never heard of the comic books before, so I'll have to check on that. Peas, I understand where your coming from. My son would play video games all the time too, but thankfully he follows our rule of once in a while (not that he doesn't do it anyways sometimes if I'm gone). Anyways, I hope your plan works for you. It sound like a good way to go and work is always a good thing. Just be prepared, since your sons on the debate team he may learn to debate this video game issue:001_huh:. Teenage boys are something. I wonder what Jesus was like as a teenager. Ellie, what a true statement. Too bad young boys think flipping hamburgers sounds like fun. It's not until they get a little older that they realize they messed up.
  13. Jenny, I do look forward to hearing your update. We are also changing up our school some this year. For one I'm going to let him do some of his subjects in the curriculum of his choice. I personally think it will bore him, but He's excited about it, so I'll give it a try. Lord willing both of our boys will improve this year. Thank you Jane for the advice. He hasn't as of yet checked into what a career in this area involves. That's a great start. he has done art history. He started out enjoying drawing, but now does more animation arts on the computer. He's even wanting to use money he earned over this summer to buy more of the guides for the program. He is such a fast learner & when he is really interested in something he just soaks it all in. Perhaps studying more of what is needed in this field will inspire him to put more attention into other area's of learning.
