  1. And not what you asked, but I'm going to stick my 2 cents in anyway, set her loose on Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief. My kids loved the series.
  2. My daughter is using Derek Owens for Algebra 1. I have worked problem #3 on 7.9 more than 3 times, and I "think" the answer key is incorrect. Does anyone here know if there is an errata sheet available? Is anyone willing to work the problem and tell me what you get for an answer? TIA ps. I get 2 over x cubed y cubed.
  3. https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/get-in/applying-101/college-admission-glossary Early Decision (ED) An option to submit an application to your first-choice college before the regular deadline. When you apply early decision, you get an admission decision earlier than usual. Early decision plans are binding. You agree to enroll in the college immediately if admitted and offered a financial aid package that meets your needs. Agreeing to ED may increase your student's chances at a school that may be a stretch for them. HTH
  4. My youngest dd appreciates Hitchcock; my youngest son does not. Rear Window is her favorite with mine being Psycho or The Birds.
  5. It's the dang "blue card" that I am having trouble getting for my daughter. I have the verification from the state that says she completed the 30 hours of driver , but I am having a hard time finding anyone up here who will do the REQUIRED by law 6 hours of behind the wheel. I'm with the others who are saying it is probably easiest and most efficient to get the social security cards replaced. Sorry for the frustration. I would definitely contact HSLDA, but I get annoyed with bureaucrats who over-step their authority and don't really know the laws they are quoting. Good luck!
  6. Cabin Lessons by Spike Carlsen - I haven't read it, so I do not know if it is appropriate, but it is on my to-be-read list.
  7. I could NOT think on Topamax. I couldn't stay on it long enough to see if it would help with my migraines. (Horrible, awful, lost-in-a-fog feeling. I couldn't even make a doctor's appointment on my own. My dh had to help me. Normally, I pay all the bills and schedule all the appointments for our family.)
  8. Dawn dish soap to help remove the dye, but use lots of conditioner afterward. (And if you use lots of cheap conditioner that should help strip the dye too.)
  9. I knew someone would come up with a good alternative!
  10. If by clean the house you mean do dishes and/or laundry, I would rather do those than mow. If by clean the house you mean dust, vacuum, and clean bathrooms or mop anything, then I would rather mow! As always...it depends!
  11. Short answer...no. No, I really don't, but then my husband didn't turn out to be who I thought he was; guess I didn't turn out to be who I thought I was either. We've been married for 26 years. I was VERY happily married for the first 12 years. Well, happy with my dh (his ex made life fairly difficult at times), but things change, and I often now wish I had made other choices or had, at least, known what I was choosing. Maybe it's just a bad day.
  12. I gave up keeping up with library books when my kids were young. It was cheaper and easier to buy books. BUT now I am over-run with books and need to sell some. I love my ereader and audible.com, at least I don't owe for late fees this way.
  13. I use Opera, and it has a start page that comes up with all my most frequented places, and then I can even drag and drop them to move around the order in which they appear. I click on Opera and then on the icon for WellTrainedMind Forums. Edited for punctuation
  14. Transporting my child(ren) anywhere without my permission is a HUGE no-no in my book. And to do it from a "LOCK-IN" (pretty sure there's a REASON it is called that) is absolutely unacceptable. If he can text my kid...he can text me, and I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be allowing any grown man to text my teen son or daughter. (But hey, I'm definitely an over-protective mother and don't mind the title.)
  15. :grouphug: I'm so sorry.
  16. I haven't found it to be depressing or truly sad, but it is slow moving. (I haven't finished it, so I can't say what the overall feeling is at the end.)
  17. Reading Virginia Woolf's suicide note made me feel so very sad. Depression is so frightening to me because even when I am not in the midst of it, I am still scared that it will come back. (Bell Jar descending, anyone?) Anyway, the only book I finished last week was How the Light Gets In by Louise Penny. I am listening to The Long Way Home; it's the last of her books to be narrated by Ralph Cosham. I am still listening to/reading Orlando, but I doubt I will finish it before the end of the month...maybe by next Sunday though. Edited because the italics keep coming and going.
  18. I had a rotating chore chart with my three step-daughters that worked relatively okay. With the younger six I opted to assign chores for a year. It used to work fairly well, but I notice that the quality of workmanship has gone significantly downhill in the last few months. Probably time to revamp the system. Edited to explain chore system. We had 3 sets of chores. Each girl had a chore set for the week. If the chore wasn't done or done well, then when the job rotated to the next girl she would complain and usually the girl who had shirked her duty got to do BOTH chores for the next week. (I think this happened all of 2 times over the course of about 3 years.) While things may not have gotten done well daily, at least, they usually got cleaned pretty well once a week. ;)
  19. I just finished book 9 in Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series. Ralph Cosham, who narrates all her books, died last fall. I have the last one on my ipod now. (She has a new book due out this summer; I think I will have to actually READ that one.) I am about ready to give up on Orlando and Night and Day by Virginia Woolf. I don't think I am going to make it as a member of the Woolf Pack.
  20. I'm reading Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache series. I finished book 7 and am listening to book 8. I keep trying to get into/finish Orlando by Virginia Woolf, but it's not really grabbing me. I also want to finish Paul Johnson's A History of the American People - so close but not quite done.
  21. I usually mix mayo with a bit of ketchup and add some bbq sauce. Yum.
