  1. If I am doing math (or anything else that needs to be kept neat), a mechanical pencil with .5mm lead keeps everything neat and tidy. A regular pencil can't really get that thin without breaking. For a while that's all I used, but I have rediscovered wood pencils lately and find they are quite nice for scribbling down a list or writing in something (like a calendar or planner) that might get erased and rewritten in later.
  2. I completely read the title the wrong way too. "What? There are issues with grandma not dropping dead?" Although I knew it was wrong, it took my a couple tries to read it the right way. It was pretty funny after I figured it out.
  3. This is how I eat mine! But while I am eating one of each color, I eat the brown first (because it is inferior) then in rainbow order... until I get to the last round. On the last round, if I ate in rainbow order, then blue would be last, and doesn't everyone know green should be the last m&m color eaten? However, sometimes I don't follow the green last rule, because I like to eat red last, so sometimes I will eat them in reverse rainbow order. If only they would add purple to the bag, then I would be happy to eat them in rainbow order until the last round. Except for that pesky green last rule...
  4. Frontierville (which is Pioneer Trail, but I still think of it as Frontierville) Words With Friends sometimes...but sometimes I forget to take my turn...oops.
  5. I crochet. My mom taught me to crochet when I was 7, although I never went on to make anything at that time. It was 18-19 years later when I decided to crochet an afghan (basically reteaching myself), and then went on to make several more afghans. A year or two after I started crocheting again, I decided to teach myself to knit. I got a book, and produced a dishcloth, but decided that knitting made me angry. It was so slippery! I later learned it was because I was using metal needles. So, last month I decided to buy bamboo needles, and as soon as I get done crocheting my current afghan (I'm on square 51 out of 63), I'm going to knit a scarf on the bamboo needles and see if I like it any better.
  6. I've seen a bunch of these facebook math polls going around, although not this particular one. I'm sorry, but I'm amazed at how many people get them wrong!
  7. I can't help with the recipe part, but... When you sort beans, you pour them out and look for things that shouldn't be in there, like rocks. (Yes, sometimes little rocks get in with the beans.) I also take out any beans that look weird. I usually do this by pouring out a little at a time into a lid of a pan, so that there's a single layer, which is easier to pick through. Once you've gone through them all, then you can soak the beans, etc.
  8. I have loved new pads of paper and notebooks for as long as I can remember. Even at age 6 or 7, I would use some of my allowance to buy colorful pads of lined paper.
  9. Yes, Egypt, for almost 3 weeks about 10 years ago.
  10. The article says something about how the butter melts and then it ends up tasting like really buttery pancakes. As far as the deep fried kool-aid, DH had to try it this year at the fair. He made me try it. It wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was anything special either. They gave us several pieces...they were ball shaped, maybe about twice the size of donut holes. They *were* a little like donuts, but not as sweet. In the middle, it was just slightly doughy and pink colored. I didn't think they were very sweet, and I didn't think it tasted like kool-aid either.
  11. I had no idea so many people give their GPS a name. I don't use a GPS. I don't need one. I don't get lost. If I need to know where a new place is, I look it up beforehand, so I can picture the map in my head. I always say I have a map in my head. DH uses a GPS all the time, though, and he has not named his and thinks that's weird. :tongue_smilie:
  12. Last year when DS was 5.5, it was the start of his K year, even though a lot of what he was working on was 1st grade materials (FLL1, HWT1, Rightstart B, WWE1 halfway through the year). I called him K. So now he's 6 and it's his 1st grade year, even though he's moved on to FLL2, Rightstart C, HWT3, etc. I feel grade is more of an age designation rather than what they're learning. I thought it would cause less problems down the road if we just called him as the grade he would be in if he went to public school; he can still work at whatever level he needs though. My state also requires testing in 2nd grade, and I didn't want to push that a year early. No matter what level of work he is doing, he still has the maturity of a 1st grader, not a 2nd grader.
  13. I found when I was younger, that if I sharpened the pencils until they were super sharp, that the tips broke much more easily. So now when I sharpen pencils, I stop just before they are super sharp.
  14. No, but on the occasion that he has a bag of chips, which he claims he cannot open, there is a Chip Opening Tax when I open it for him. He doesn't like me eating a chip...so I tell him to open his own bag, then.
  15. I could list lots of books already mentioned here, but I'm only going to mention two that haven't been mentioned at all. The original Oz books by L. Frank Baum, all 14 of them (Didn't anyone else love these??) Under Plum Lake, by Lionel Davidson -This book is so incredibly imaginative, it wowed me when I first read it over 20 years ago. I obtained a used copy from the library later, but I haven't seen it in a long time. Last time I looked, it was out of print, but it looks like it's back in print, as of March. I'm looking forward to reading it again.
  16. I knew about it, but not right away. However, I didn't use J&J except for a few times when traveling (as they had travel sizes). After I found out, I started using California Baby.
  17. :iagree: Bawling! DS looked at me like I was crazy.
  18. I put 3 days per week, because we definitely have 3 days out per week, but occasionally we have 4 days out if there's a field trip or something extra like that scheduled. This week will be 4 days out because we have a Halloween party one afternoon.
  19. Yeah, I'd been trying for the past hour! It finally worked. I guess it finally took me seriously after I posted here to complain. :tongue_smilie:
  20. When I select my shipping address, I get an error. If I get past that part and I select a payment method and hit continue, I get a screen that says "Oops..the page you tried to access can only be viewed during the checkout process." (Yeah, that's what I was trying to do.) Then I look at my payment options and they've disappeared.
