  1. For my daughter's 4th birthday, we did a pizza party. We have a Little Caesar's nearby that has cheese and pepperoni pizzas for only 5 bucks. Another option would be to buy frozen pizza on sale at your local grocer (we've done this too) if you don't mind the prep work involved. Papa John's is usually out of budget for us for large gatherings.
  2. Coppertone has an oil free foaming lotion SPF 75 (this is what I use). I wear the big, floppy hats during the summer but you can always just wear a cute baseball cap. Just remember to protect your ears!!!!
  3. You're not alone. My husband thinks I'm crazy when he catches me reading my manuals. What does he know?
  4. I would not donate a kidney to my ex. I might consider it for my current husband. Of course I have a horrible relationship with my ex (he physically abused me for 6 years) and he is not a part of my son's life, so the circumstances are different. I think it is generous of you to have even considered giving him a kidney since he is your ex. IMO, I would save my kidney for my immediate family. My ex does not apply.
  5. It didn't work for me. I got burned out on my own school-work and decided that it wasn't for me. Everything has been running much smoother since I decided to dedicate myself to my home and family. I also WAH and I get my work done after the kids are in bed. It's easier for me to do that than try to cram hours of my own school work in at night resulting in only getting a couple of hours of sleep at night. I also came to terms that a degree doesn't have to define me, especially since I don't plan on going back to work outside of the home until my kids have graduated from high school. Crafting work supplements our income nicely, and it's very therapeutic. I know this post won't help you, just thought I'd share my experience!!!
  6. Before I met my husband, my son and I were members of a mega church. I liked it at first, but they grew so much so quickly that they required all members with children to volunteer regularly. I did volunteer in the nursery a few times, but it was getting to a point where I didn't think I could handle it, especially since I had started a new job and volunteer times were so sporadic. I talked to the person in charge, and she was upset and told me that if I couldn't volunteer I couldn't leave my son in the nursery during service. Children (babies especially) weren't "allowed" in the sanctuary because they tape the service and it was too distracting. They had a lot of wonderful programs, and there were many opportunities to mingle and fellowship. I just couldn't handle the requirements of being a member. That was many years ago and maybe things have changed. I really like my small parish (I converted to Catholicism recently) and wouldn't leave it for the world!!!
  7. I am the worst!!! Especially when it comes to housework  I'm pretty diligent about my kids getting work done like chores and school work, but I always seem to wait til the pressures on to get my work done. I am never late though, and my home still runs smoothly. I'm not lazy, just like to work at my own pace!! I really love Flylady, but it took me 2 weeks to start, and I have not followed her program like I should *sigh*. I just need to do it, lol!! For those who don't know who she is, here's her website: http://www.flylady.net
  8. We are enrolled with OLVS, and I can't see myself using anything else. They are rigorous, but it's nothing that my kids aren't ready for. I plan on using Little Saints Preschool for my little one when she becomes older. I do test through Seton (they use CAT/E) though since OLVS has preference with ITBS, which I am unqualified to administer. I would love to meet others that use OLVS, but it seems that we are few and far between (at least on forums). If only OLVS had its own forum like some of the other schools *sigh*. Of course, I do enjoy it here at the hive more-so than any other home-school forum!!!!!
  9. I had a tubal ligation done with a c-section over a year ago. I had c-sections with all three children. It was a very hard decision to make, but in the end decided that it would be best for us. Now, I secretly wish that my tubes would "fuse" and heal back together, especially now that my values have changed slightly. I wouldn't have a reversal done, even if it was free. I haven't had any side effects from the procedure other than a slight regret. I don't recommend it (or any type of BC for that matter) to anyone other than NFP. I wish that this was the option that I had taken instead for myself and my family.
  10. I never work out and it shows *sigh*. I'm thinking about doing karate since my kids are enrolling in karate school in the fall, and I've thought about doing a beach body program here at home. I used to walk religiously with my DH, but I stopped when he stopped due to his work schedule.
  11. We love our Saxon. My son does Saxon 6/5, and dd1 does Saxon k as a supplement to her reg lepanto arithmetic. We use the Saxon because it IS stand alone!!! The less I have to supplement, the better. We use Saxon K as a supplement simply because of the lessons using math manipulatives. Lepanto Arithmetic is quite easy for dd1, but it's a required course for OLVS. My son uses the COMPASS CDs for math instruction with Saxon. We spend approximately 45 minutes a day on math, not the 2 to 2 1/2 hours that I saw posted on here. That's entirely too much time spent on ANY subject!!!
  12. We use Science and Living In God's World supplemented with Mr. Wizard videos.
  13. Our kitchen table is where we do most of our homeschooling. But sometimes we go into the living room as well, especially when the kids are watching supplemental videos. I separate the kids during tests to minimize distractions, and my oldest will stay at the kitchen table, and DD 1 will transfer to the coffee table. I try to keep DD 2 in the living room, but that's not always possible, lol.
