Do you have any suggestions on how to handle credits/etc. and planning on the December cycle? I"m thinking this would be so much less expensive, but I'm afraid to push my kids too early and don't want them to be "behind" if I don't! We are doing BJU science 6 for my 5th and 6th grader this year. Any suggestions would be welcome!!

I thought I would share this because this happened on its own, but has been really cool. DD and her cousin live 5 hours apart and only see each other 4-5 times per year. They started writing a book together about wolves on one visit, and then started face-timing when we returned home. I set them up with google docs and now they can both be typing and reading the same document at the same time, while chatting over face time! The writing is pretty good, and I think they are both learning from each other about word choice, phrasing and grammar. They will talk through better ways to say something and also about their ideas for the story.

As you can see, I have no philosophy. Writing is not natural to me, DH or our kids, so I want to provide them with the skills they can use to better their academics.

If my son could do quality work through WWS, I will be thrilled. For dd, who takes more to writing, style will be explored in addition to WWS.

If you have an ipad, spellboard allows you to enter your own words. You can enter the spelling test and they can do crosswords, missing blank activities and take the test in their own with your recorded voice

FYI she gives suggestions on how to progress from TC to middle grades, but oh how I wish I could see something for middle grades in the near futureðŸ˜

Well I decided to buy it and use it with my 5th and 6th graders. I'm hoping to do it at an accelerated pace since they have learned these topics at some level. What I love about this, is that it teaches children to put more thought and care into their writing. Will it be worth it for my 6th grade 12 year old son? Time will tell. I hope I'm not holding him back. My plan was and still is for him to work through WWS series. I'd just like to start the year out with some conversations about how we choose words, and also add to the note taking skills. Current plan is to hopefully complete TC by late winter and start him on WWS. Then I will shore up narrations/dictation with my 5th grader and start her on WWS next fall.

Have you tried mystery of History? We love it.

I think it would present problems on both ends. I wish more moms knew how useful a sling/carrier is, but I wouldn't say it. I'd just say "I remember those days" with empathy so as to not come off annoyed or judgmental in any way 😀

I just finished last night. I really enjoyed the book (unlike Echo). Glad I gave DG to redeem herself with this one! Only wish there was more Briana et al and time jumping!

I'm breaking out of the box where I thought we needed to follow just one plan I mostly use wwe and look forward to ds focusing on WWS next year, but this past year was a delight. A friend asked if I would be interested in her writing class. It was a bit IEW-ish but much more natural. The kids liked it and we walked away with an outline to and ability write essays on their topics of choice. Since we were going to NZ in February, the kids spent 7 weeks writing about various research ideas involving NZ. It was very exciting to see the things they had read and written about! When we got home they wrote a few more papers about their experience in NZ. After that 6 month hiatus, we went back to WWE and found it a good opportunity to return to working on their skills.

I love mystery of history. We use some homeschool in the woods CDs as supplement. We do ipad app timeline and knowledge quest maps. Sometimes I have thm do a notebook page or read some related literature. I like that when we are busy, we can still keep up by doing the minimum, and when we are on a topic of interest, they can branch out. We have done vols 1 and 2 and I have vol3 here for next year.

I made organic buttermilk waffles I made about 60 waffles and we ate some and froze the rest. Plus organic coffee from my Chemex. Yum
