  1. That is totally something my husband would eat. It's not available in Canada though, according to an article I read (actual site wouldn't work, so I googled)
  2. wow..apple cider vinegar eh? dd13 has trouble with acne and I've not been sure what do for her.. we're polar opposites in skin & hair, with her being the oily skinned, stringy hair girl and me being the drier than dust constantly slapping moisturizer everywhere type. (always have been, even as a teen) ...our bathroom looks nuts with all the opposite types of soaps and shampoos and stuff in there. :tongue_smilie: Might have to check this stuff out.
  3. Roughly same temps here. I still wear a jacket in the am...it seems to heat up to the 'too hot to cook' by supper though. I made the mistake of saying "I miss winter" to someone up here the other day and got a really dirty look.
  4. It's 14C (57F) here right now, with a high of 26C(78F) called for the day... blech. Too hot for me. I'm totally a winter girl. :D
  5. - woke up with this running around through my head. My first kiss went a little like this... :tongue_smilie:
  6. Anyone remember this? Boom Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room) - i remember singing along with this and not. having. a. clue. (hey - i was only 9 or 10!) (There is a but that was just done a few years ago.)
  7. ahhhhh! I haven't heard that in years! It's one of the songs I remember being of the "car tape" that my father always played when we were driving wherever... along with Walk of Life and (not 1 hit wonders, but the songs all go together in my head because of that tape) :D
  8. I am totally biting my fingers here. BITE BITE BITE. :p
  9. This one is just about as exciting as watching a puddle dry up. :)
  10. We're planning to do Core 6 next year as well, and I asked questions about it recently.. some info in that thread may be helpful to you. :)
  11. Mop. It's a ... red one? with a spongy end thing.. I don't think it has a name. :tongue_smilie: I rarely scrub on my hands & knees ~ I can't kneel on hard surfaces. Old knee injury + the surgery to 'fix' it = stupid left knee that doesn't work right. I can only kneel on the right one, so it's very awkward.
  12. Why all the Nicolas Cage hate? :boxing_smiley: Con Air & Gone in 60 Seconds are two of my fave movies. :w00t:
  13. THEY FOUND HER! http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2010/07/07/sk-girl-found-1007.html A missing four-year-old girl has been located in good health in Regina after an intense search that included issuing an Amber Alert, police said Wednesday. The public alert was issued Tuesday for Samantha Martyn, whom police said might have been taken by her father, Christopher Martyn. The girl's mother, Natasha Sentes, was also missing. Around 9:30 a.m. CST Wednesday, police cancelled the Amber Alert. Earlier in the day, Regina police said, they received information from a relative that the three had arrived at a residence in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue North in the city's north end. Samantha was found to be in apparent good health, police said at a midday news conference. Regina Police Services spokeswoman Lara Guzik said Sentes had "visible injuries" but did not need major treatment. Martyn was "arrested without incident," Guzik added. more at the above link
  14. dd13 says her fave is called "Super Mario Bros Wii" -- this it it right here :) ETA: she also says she loves Twilight Scene It and Wii Sports Resort. (We don't have very many games yet, only having had our Wii for maybe two months or so)
  15. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2010/07/06/amber-alert-sask.html "A four-year-old girl who is the subject of an Amber Alert was spotted with her father at a gas station in Manitou, Man., police said. Samantha Martyn and her 39-year-old father, Christopher Martyn, who authorities are seeking in connection to the girl's disappearance, were seen Tuesday at 6:49 a.m. CST, according to video taken from the gas station, police said. Police believe the girl's mother, Natasha Sentes, 34, who is also missing, may have been in the front seat of the vehicle but that "no visual was ever established." (more at the link)
  16. ..then the last thing I would be doing is classifying books as "twaddle" or whatever. My daughter was just like that - she'd rather visit the dentist than read. She was capable, it just held no appeal to her recreationally. Then along came Twilight. Out of nowhere, my daughter jumped into reading 500+ page novels! Nose buried in books, for days on end. Shocked the heck out of me! She discovered, via that so-called "twaddle" book series, that reading can be ENJOYABLE. She finally realized that I wasn't actually just yanking her chain when I'd tell her much fun a good story really is. Anyway. Point I'm trying to make is that you have a kiddo who has a distaste for reading and if you start building fences all over the place... that's just gonna add more negativity to the mix. Sure, you have to have *some* monitoring (I'm not suggesting you hand her The Shining) but I think a lot of the "twaddle" rules that people make are overkill. (personal opinion) My daughter now reads other stuff ~ once she really got drawn in and discovered that reading could be enjoyable (imagine! Mum wasn't pulling her leg all this time!), she started spreading out to other material. If you think your daughter would like the Ramona books, give 'em a shot! Hey - I wonder if she'd like (and be okay with the reading level) the Cat Warrior books?
  17. There is a little tab on the nozzle that you can flip up to keep the nozzle handle pressed "on". Ahhh. I didn't know that... I once commented to a friend that our old van was "really good on gas"... and dh, overhearing, started laughing. For a long time. You might be able to guess why. :tongue_smilie:
  18. Oh you so did not go there! :boxing_smiley: Yeah I have a slight thing for Nicolas Cage. :w00t:
  19. The rule of thumb is 4'9", so she's above that, but not by much. Although the gold standard is the five-point test, which has more to do with the length of the femur bone than overall height. Weight doesn't really figure into it at all. As far as being able to drive a car at 14 - that's nuts on so many levels. Actually, there have been studies that have shown that it's unsafe for kids - of any height or weight - to be in the front seat before they turn fifteen, because their bones have not yet gained enough density and mineral content to withstand the airbag in a crash, even if they're six foot tall, 180 lb. boys. Laura Corin linked this report on another car seat thread. Here, you have to be 16 to get a learner's permit. In most countries, I think it's 18. See now, the idea of putting a 13.5 year old, grade nine kid in a booster seat... can you imagine, realistically? She does sit properly - the whole test thing.. belt is where it ought to be, feet are where they ought to be, etc. Actually - regarding learners permits.. in many provinces, teens can get their learners at 15.5 if they're in driver's ed, far as I know... Alberta does have a lower age - but it's just the learners permit.. they can't do the road test until they're 16, and even after that they're still on this "graduated" system.. there's a second road test to get the full, though if you want you can just keep your GDL for however long. On the learners permit, there are LOTS of rules - specific hours, requirements about who is teaching, etc. They aren't just out there driving around. ;) When we first moved here, I did think it was a bit crazy.. but after I talked with a lot of people who've lived here their whole lives, I realized it might not such a bad thing.. the teens who get their permits at 14 usually have a lot more practice time before they go for their road test - two years, at least. (as opposed to when I got mine - the law said I could do the road test three months later!) I think it's a holdover from farm/rural kids needing their licenses early.. I dunno. Regarding height though - I have an aunt who is 4'10". She's in her fifties now, I think, and she's been driving with a big cushion on her seat forever.
  20. Curious - what height was your ped referring to? I've actually had a few people comment to me that our petite dd13 - 4'10" (maybe 4'11") and 85lbs - could use a booster. :001_huh: I'm never sure what to make of that - considering that she can get her beginners permit in six months (they can get them at 14 here - they can't do the road test until 16 though) and DRIVE a vehicle. I don't think they make boosters for the driver's seat. ;)
  21. It's probably the whole adultery, getting his Russian model mistress pregnant, divorcing the mother of his other 7 kids to be with said mistress, then physically abusing the "baby mama". Oh, that. (I'm not laughing at the situation - of course it's not funny if people do things like that - I'm laughing at the fact that I don't pay much attention to celebrity news and the way you delivered the info. ;) )
  22. The Lethal Weapon movies are faves of mine (except #4 - they really should have left well enough alone!) and now I'm wondering what Mel Gibson did. He got in trouble once for making racist remarks or something, was it that again?
