  1. When realize my mood is in the wrong place, I know I need to eat better, take my vitamins, etc. Sleep. Connect with friends. Pray. Get out of my house to see the sun and animals in my backyard. Walk the dog and run into neighbors who adore her and will talk to me. Go to the library and see that the rest of the world is going about their lives just fine -- and so can I.
  2. We're in town, too, but there's a wooded area within a block of us. My next door neighbor has an enormous compost heap, and in the winter the herd of deer congregate near it to keep warm when it's bitter cold. We counted 14 at once a few years ago.
  3. My neighbor has an enormously high fence to keep deer out of her garden; while it works for them, the raccoons can climb right over the top and feast on whatever is ripe.
  4. I'd like to buy some white LED candles -- tea lights and larger -- but all the ones I've tried have a weird tint to the "flame." Some seem to be too blue/green, and others are too yellow/orange. If you have found any that have a normal flame color, please share a link!
  5. As for what kind of guitar to use for jazz in college, it may be worth a call to a couple of college jazz programs to find out what types of guitars they usually use there.
  6. We have a Mitchell acoustic-electric and like it. ETA: Guitar Center has a sale going now, so it's a good time to take your ds shopping! This is the one we have. It's smaller than a dreadnought, if that matters to you.
  7. This. They are very, very different, and beginner guitars are sometimes frustrating to play, even for experienced players. Since he's already a bass player, he should be able to figure out what he likes fairly quickly. He also may need a case or a gig bag to protect it, as that's not always included in the price.
  8. What about it do you want to replicate?
  9. The change is odd. Going from three dc at home to two was okay; we all missed the oldest dc, but the other two finally got their own bedrooms, our food budget was drastically reduced, and there was less conflict over bathroom use. Going from two dc at home to one was okay, but a bit more lonely; on the plus side, youngest and I spent a lot more time hanging out together. Going from one at home to an empty nest was even lonelier, and it threw me for a while; however, no one ever uses or moves my stuff anymore, and the food I buy is always there when I want it. It's great to have any of the dc come home for a visit, and it's great to have them go back to their new lives.
  10. Saraha, it is certainly challenging when dc leave and all the usual plans change. It must be harder to have two leave at the same time! My college freshman isn't coming home for Easter this year, either. I wish it were possible, but I'm glad that dc is able to accurately assess how making the trip would affect the next week's studies. We're going to Zoom at some point Sunday afternoon or evening. Maybe you and your dds could do that?
  11. I'm going to an extended family potluck. So far, I've heard people are bringing baked ham, new potatoes sauteed with olive oil and garlic, deviled eggs, a cold veggie salad, and a fruit salad. I'll probably be taking roasted veggies and dinner rolls.
  12. Or, you could get a power inverter for your car to plug into the cigarette lighter and run whatever heating pad you already own. Different inverters produce different wattage. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YTH66FN/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A3NRFWH2QLWAW4&psc=1 or like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079HPZ9JY/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2?smid=A2LG37GR6X8NOG&psc=1
  13. I think it must vary. The one I purchased has four heat settings, and I use just the lowest two of those. The other two are quite hot.
  14. I put them on the transcript, as they validated the grades my dc earned at home and put my dc in the top 25% at the universities they wanted to attend. If I were doing it again now, I might choose differently, as the local public schools are no longer putting the test scores on the transcripts.
  15. It's fabric. It says you can unplug the controls and wash the pad in the machine. I haven't tried it, though, so I don't know how well it holds up.
  16. We have this one, and we all like it. The price has gone up considerably since I bought it two years ago, but after that long of daily use it still works really well. Dh uses this one for his shoulders. I agree it's nice for shoulders, but it's more awkward to use, IMHO.
  17. Thanks. I'll have to take another look at them. I remember the legs being wider than I wanted, but since then "straight leg" jeans seem to be narrower in many brands. Maybe these are, too.
  18. I'm delighted high-waisted jeans are back. They fit me much better than any mid-rise ever did. I am having some trouble finding the right leg width, though. I don't like the wide, and I have enough skinny jeans. I just want some straight leg jeans that are high waisted. Let me know if you find some!
  19. Congratulations! It sounds like you made the right choice in taking the position. May it turn out even better than you hoped!
  20. This sounds like the techniques used in osteopathic manipulation. I had a PT do that with me a few times, and it was amazing, but all PTs don't do it. OP, if you are able to find an osteopath who does this as part of their practice, that's another option for you. (Some don't.)
  21. Since you have regained some movement, that's a good sign. Several doctors have told me that issues like this tend to resolve in a week or two without treatment, so maybe that's what's happening. While you wait for your appointment, you may want to consider massaging your upper trapezius muscles.
  22. And when you drive together and he drives, go in his vehicle so yours stays clean.
  23. I would definitely go darker for the dress, especially since it is full-length. Medium-blue would look great with your coloring. You might want to keep looking for something shorter, though, so you can get more use out of it.
  24. That's what they were called where I grew up, too, but they were new to our area of the Midwest. A guy from Oklahoma moved in and opened an American-Mexican restaurant that served them with cinnamon sugar on top. Basically they were sopaipillas, but he called them Indian Fry Bread.
