  1. You shouldn't have to spend half the month feeling crummy. What form of B12 are you getting in the shots? What about when you were taking oral supplements? For many people methylcobalamin is more effective than the others. I've known people who took it as injections, but most have taken it sublingually. YMMV, of course. Since your current shots aren't fully fixing your problem, it would be worth asking your doctor about other options, such as using a more easily absorbed form of B12, getting more frequent shots, and/or supplementing between shots.
  2. One of our cats would use both front paws to bang repeatedly on a closed door to tell us to open it for her. We didn't use a bell for the cats, but our dog figured it out and started using it to get our attention for multiple reasons. That got annoying, so we took it down.
  3. Yep. Unfortunately, since Covid the wait has grown. The last time my relative made an appointment with a neurologist, she was seen within a month. This time she has to wait almost 6 months.
  4. Yes, although they can also show the patient is worse if they aren't administered correctly. An elderly relative tested very poorly on a recent test; her dc, who was with her at the appointment, looked up the test online afterward and discovered the nurse hadn't followed the directions in administering the test.
  5. Maybe they were thinking of the flashing red light on top of skyscrapers, cell phone towers, etc.
  6. How cool that your library has patrons already!
  7. At all of my dc's schools, the university offered a questionnaire, then indicated which unassigned students were the closest matches. It was up to students to decide if they wanted to connect to agree on a match or if the university would simply assign them a roommate. My oldest waited until the last possible day to find a match and got a nightmare roommate who moved out at semester and was replaced by a slightly better one. Dc#2 chose a bit sooner and picked someone who was a decent roommate. Dc#3 started early. That dc used the university's questionnaire results to find roommate options, then searched the incoming freshman FB page to find out more about them and interacted via private message with several people before choosing one who has turned out to be an excellent roommate.
  8. Amethyst, I can't count the number of incredibly talented people I know who majored in the arts and are now doing something else because they need to eat, pay rent/mortgage, and pay back student loans. I also know several others, like your dd, who majored in something practical, got good jobs that covered all their expenses, and pursued their art as a hobby or side hustle. Between the two groups, those seem to be the happier ones. One young artist who went into CAD told me that being creative to meet someone else's requirements significantly diminished the pleasure of doing it for fun. Just something for your dd to consider. Before changing paths, it would be worth talking to people working in the proposed new field to find out how it has affected them.
  9. I would definitely go in to be checked and also get your dc checked, even if they don't complain. When we were kids my brother and I were in another family's car when it was rear-ended, causing whiplash that affected both of us for years, but neither of us were diagnosed or treated until we were adults and neither of us connected our neck pain to the accident. I'm not sure my mom even knew about it (the accident, not the neck pain). We just gave each other neck rubs after school every day. As adults we both had doctors looking at our x-rays comment on the severe whiplash we'd suffered when younger, and that's when we realized how it had happened. Thankfully, we were both still able to get some help, but it would have been nice if that had happened sooner!
  10. A friend has gone back as a long-term sub for music -- a few weeks to a semester at a time. She only takes jobs when they involve preparation for a performance; she's found that otherwise the kids don't participate or behave as well.
  11. Yes to this, and not just for this type of situation. Thank you for sharing this.
  12. I would absolutely not tell them. It's not fair to Uncle Harold, who you say would be crushed by the information. Why do that to the poor man? Dick may find out through his DNA test at some point and tell his sister. That's enough.

    Cannoli

I knew it was Italian food, but I didn't know what it was and had never seen one.
  14. I'm happy for you that you finally got the diagnosis and help you need!

How have I never seen this before???? I just came across photos. Is it as delicious as it looks?
  16. Amazon has some under $30. Read reviews carefully. You might want to ask the kids in class or their moms.
  17. Doesn't their karate studio provide them? Or offer them for sale?
  18. Ann, her dh needs to run interference for her with his family. She should not have to deal with people she doesn't want to see right after giving birth. Boundaries is an excellent book and I am very grateful that my dh read it before we married and had kids. I would have been a total wreck if all of my in-laws (MIL, FIL, multiple BILs/SILs) had shown up immediately after childbirth, like they had done previously with other grandbabies. Dh understood my horror at the idea and told them we would welcome people at a planned time after returning home. We did let MIL come up to the hospital on the 2nd day.
  19. It sounds like she's fine with the way things are. Don't pressure her. She'll make more plans when she's ready to do so.
  20. The parents do the inviting, even just to visit the mom at the hospital, IMHO.
  21. I knew brothers who started puberty around age 16. One had always been tall, and after puberty he grew to 6'5" tall. His brother was short and several years delayed in bone age; he ended up around 5'8" tall, which was closer to his father's height.
  22. Good friend or not, I would not let an inexperienced person practice on my very finicky hair. If yours looks good again 2 weeks after a less-than-stellar cut and you want to help your friend learn, then go for it. It doesn't mean you have to let him do it again.
  23. I have a minimalist dc who did the same, and it was a very good thing! When we arrived to move dc in, there was no extra space left in the room, as dc's roommate had brought a fridge, microwave, fan, storage cubbies, TV, game console, etc. and had decorated the walls. Dc just needed to put away clothing, make the bed, and tack up a class schedule.
  24. I had three cats at one time. I had two carriers - one small and one large. The two cats in the large cage fit fine and got along, but they would move around and mess up the balance, so carrying them was a hassle.
