If you can try the 4-wheeled ones in person, that's even better. Some steer better than others when all 4 wheels are on the ground. Mine were removed by a dentist. I had some nerve damage, but I don't know if using an oral surgeon would have made a difference. I swelled up like a chipmunk, as they didn't recommend ice packs back then. All three of my dc had theirs out by an oral surgeon. The one with the most swelling refused to use ice packs after the first day. The next two were careful to use ice packs 20 min on and 20 off for two days, and they had no or very minimal facial swelling.

Out of respect for your mom's privacy, I would leave out her goat comment and the mention of her dementia, while still including that he lovingly cared for her in her later years. I have no real opinion about the dog comment.

OP -- Eventually, your dd will realize that brains are weird that way; no one remembers anything from when they were babies and not much from when they were toddlers. However, even realizing that won't stop her future college-age self from lamenting not having taken a particular course in high school... even though she actually took it, liked it, worked hard in it, and earned an A. I've been there with 2 of mine. Again, brains are weird.

I agree with this. Starting in middle school my most difficult dc would work extremely well for other instructors or tutors because of not wanting to look stupid or immature. Actually, that was true for my other dc, too, when it came to working at a friend's house for a few hours while I had an appointment. My friend and I still laugh when we remember how our middle schoolers got more done in an afternoon together at one of our homes than they ever did alone. Each worked ahead in their studies that day, because they saw the other kid still working and didn't want to look lazy.

I'm glad he's getting evaluated. I've known several people with similar behaviors. Scary causes were life-long bipolar disorder, early onset Alzheimer's, drug use, or a brain tumor. Less serious ones were a sleep disorder or a major UTI. Praying your friend's cause is treatable and that he gets a correct diagnosis quickly.

Our dc generally go by their given names, with the occasional exception of a diminutive. However, dh sometimes calls one of them by a nickname that he coined when that dc was an infant. Dc thinks it's funny and will answer to it. No one else uses it, though. For a "sensible" name to have a nickname, adding on is common, and that addition will sometimes morph to something else. Polly might become Polly Wolly Doodle, which could morph to Doodle or Doodle Bug. Peggy might become Peg Leg, morphing to P.L. or Legolas. Planning it out seems a bit artificial, but would something like that work for your niece's name?

Okay, back to the ear cleaner. The company sells two different products, both with gentian violet. The witch hazel stuff I use for my dog is in the 4oz. yellow bottle. The seller says that one seems to work better for dogs with allergies. (I never tried the other product, as it has alcohol, which inflames my dog's ears.) If you try either of these products, read and follow the directions - no more than 5 days in a row to treat infections and once a month for maintenance. Also, the gentian violet stains, so you'll probably want to use it outside and in the grass rather than inside or on your patio/deck. Ours eats Purina Pro Plan for sensitive skin and stomach, the salmon and rice recipe. For chronic ear infections we switched to using a product I found online that has witch hazel, boric acid, and gentian violet. She doesn't get infections very often now, and this stuff takes care of it when it does. I'll link later when I get home and can look it up.

Does she know how to use a netipot or other sinus rinse? That has always helped here to reduce sinus drainage that's causing the sniffles and cough. My kids always resisted using it until their cough was really bad, because they were just sure they didn't have sinus drainage, but then it helped so much they were sorry they waited. Once the sinuses are cleared out, you may find the meds you chose may be more effective.
