  1. My sister is on a kick with one of these. I just smile & nod. Wouldn't do any good to try to argue! Although I had to bite my tongue when she said "and I have been able to stop drinking coffee!" No kidding?! Could it be all the caffeine contained in those pills & patches & shakes?!
  2. I just did Leslie Sansone's Miracle Mile. My 1 yr old cried at my feet half the time but I did manage to finish. My 6 yr old likes to do it with me so I have a little exercise buddy! I have a Jessica smith workout video set that I might try out tomorrow.
  3. I am new to these threads & don't know exactly how it works either! So we can learn together :)
  4. I get to post on this thread bc I actually exercised tr past 2 days! Yea me! I did the Miracle Mile exercise video by Leslie Sansone both days. My little girls did it with me. So fun! It is a bit easy for me but I like that I could do all the moves without feeling ridiculous & that I didnt feel like I was going to die afterward. It gave me a great boost of energy which has never happened before when exercising.
  5. OneStep did a great job explaining things. I am following in her footsteps & using CLE & Ronit Bird stuff with my 9 yr old. I started her in 100 & am able to do 2 lessons most days by skipping over skills she has down pat. It isn't any longer-I just pick & choose what to cover. It's quite easy to do. My dd is doing well with these materials & making good progress (although math facts are still a struggle). Good luck to you!
  6. I have 100 days of real food book & think it would be good for beginners. I like the blog too.
  7. I totally understand! My MIL does this. She is great in lots of ways but can't keep her opinions to herself. i have heard it all from her. My own mom doesn't tell me what to do but she does tell me what to buy. Constantly. Every week I get pictures of this great vase or beautiful rug or fabulous patio set that I need right now. And every week I say the same thing-i love it but we are saving up for XYZ. Makes me nuts.
  8. Check out Get Your Pretty On (GYPO) & Pinterest Told Me To (PTMT) GYPO has style challenges (spring is coming up). I have participated in 2 & they were well worth the $$. I now have a beautiful fall/winter wardrobe that is in style but not trendy. I can't wait for the spring challenge bc I have no clue what to wear without her guidance! PTMT is a fashion blog & she is hilarious. She posts good deals (typically Nordstrom) and also at least one outfit a week. Congrats on the weight loss!!
  9. Turn your phone sideways while on the diary page-all the details for the day show up
  10. Super powers-teleportation Realistic-play guitar I do have a decent singing voice but would love to be able to just pick up a guitar & sing along.
  11. What role? I have enjoyed visiting these forums to get advice & input on a range of topics. I enjoy reading the lively debates although I don't like the name calling & am sensitive so I rarely participate in anything controversial. I live in the rural south so I am not regularly exposed to people who look or believe differently than me. This board has been great for branching out & learning more about the other cultures/opinions/lifestyles of fellow homeschoolers & moms. Have these forums (and the people) replaced in full, or in part, a real live human(s) in your life? I became more involved in this board after my friendship with a group dissolved. I needed to fill a void. I do have close friends IRL but none that homeschool. I am not close to any of the homeschoolers here now. Or changed the relationship(s) in some way? After being around the board for a while I felt more confident in my choice to avoid my old group of friends. If so, is this positive or negative in your opinion Positive. I don't feel like this is a safe place to share much about myself. I am often afraid to post anything for fear of what may happen. I can't take criticism so I try not to give opportunity for it. I sometimes think about leaving the boards for good but I think the diversity keeps me here. I think the education boards have helped me become a better homeschooler. I asked for a PM in the christian forum post bc I do want a safe place to talk about things-not bc I plan to leave here. I haven't even checked out the other place yet. Too busy reading stuff here!! I also asked bc I didn't know of any other forums like this where you can discuss anything-not just curriculum. I haven't really looked but...it was easy to ask for a PM so I did! This board does leave me scratching my head sometimes but I still enjoy it.
  12. My oldest dd has a low grade brain tumor. Doing well. She was first diagnosed (by 3 hospitals) with a rare highly aggressive tumor & was told that she would die within the year. I was told by one doctor to go home & make arrangements. We were in this place of desperation for almost 6 weeks until we received miraculous news that it wasn't the rare kind but a low grade kind instead. She is still surprising her medical team with how well she is doing. Anyway-we had many incredible things happen during that time. After being told to make arrangements I laid in bed & had a near panic attack bc I didn't have a good picture of my 2 girls. I told DH-I have to get their pic made ASAP. Early the next morning I received not one but two phone calls from local photographers offering to take pics for free. One was arranged by a church member who had also sewn my girls matching (beautiful) dresses. A business man at our church offered his private plane for us to fly to a cancer hospital (where doc told us to make arrangements). So after receiving such terrible news we were able to drive straight to a small airport & board plane then fly into local airport. I think I would have had a nervous breakdown on a commercial flight. I was so devastated that I could hardly function. Also the pilot donated his time. We had so many awesome things happen to us during that time. It felt like we were being reassured daily that the Lord was watching out for us. Fast forward a few years-we were making it ok financially but there wasn't any wiggle room in budget. I had 4 girls. I was unpacking winter clothes & looking at the dresses. I just had a fleeting thought-I wish I could buy them matching dresses for Christmas. A couple from our church asked me a few days later if they could do something special for our girls-buy them matching dresses!! One more-another Christmas my older girls really wanted American Girl dolls but it wasn't in the budget. A dear friend asked if she could play Santa & get a big item on their wish list. There were American Girl dolls under the tree that year :) God has been good to us. You would think I would never doubt His goodness but I am ashamed to say that I do. Typing this out is a good reminder to be thankful. There is much more I could write but I am on a mobile!
  13. I love the discussions here! I love hearing others POV-esp about controversial subjects. But Sometimes a discussion turns into an argument. And gets ugly. I don't enjoy that.
  14. I don't care what anyone else believes or teaches their kids. I am pretty non-confrontational though-I don't understand why anyone would want to argue IRL or on a message board.
  15. I just started using my fitness pal & love it!! I have never tracked food before & it's so neat to see total calories, fat, protein, carbs, sugar, etc for each meal and for the day. It is very easy to use. Love it!
  16. Thank you! I have limited wifi data so I won't be able to use YouTube regularly but I can watch one of each before I order a dvd.
  17. Thank you! Her stuff is much more expensive! I don't want to spend the $$ on something I won't use. The input from others is so helpful!
  18. I am about 50 lbs overweight & have never been an active person. I like walking around outside (love exploring the woods) but have never participated in or enjoyed athletic activity. I do like to dance-more of in a silly way with the kids. I don't like to sweat or be sore haha!! I successfully lost 25 lbs before my last surprise baby just with diet changes but I know exercise is so important. I haven't gained it all back but the scales are rising! The kids will definitely try to join in. I looked into Zumba DVDs bc it sounds fun. But they didn't have the best reviews.
  19. I need something to get me moving! I like walking outside but with 5 kids in tow it's hard to do. Gym isn't option. If you use t tapp or leslie sansone or something similar can you tell me more. I looked at Leslie's stuff on Amazon but there were so many DVDs-I had no idea which one would be best to try. Any info is greatly appreciated!
  20. That is a good idea for short term. I am having laptop withdrawals! All my school plans are on there. Plus everything else. My iPhone is ok but I am sick of looking at this tiny screen!
  21. My old laptop was like that. It had been dropped, stepped on, food/beverage spilled on it (outside not keys). I asked friend about installing non touch screen or an 'off' part & tech guys said it probably wouldn't work.
  22. Just called Best Buy- for $300 we can take it to best buy & they will 'fix the screen' which probably means give me a new one.
