  1. Sounds like fun. I am in NH and EId events in MA always cost a lot of money. Some places have carnivals the day of eid which is so nice, but not here. Here people go to a play place and the week after for this Eid go to Six Flags. It all really adds up. We always get a ton of gifts for the kids (compensating that our family is not here). Depending on how busy the first day if Eid gets, then we either do the gifts in the afternoon or the day after. We'll be going to the local mosque for Eid prayer and some socializing, but don't have specific plans after that. Gone are the days really when I invite people over, but we'll see. Worst case scenario, then we might go to a local amusement park since we haven't been this year and it is in the next town over. Would love to just hang with friends, though.
  2. Well, he only wrote one entry, but this is a reluctant writer -unless it is of his own choice!! http://notasinglepungiven.wordpress.com/ If so inclined, please leave a comment there.
  3. Thanks, Jean. She had low levels of D and had been taking something for it, but not really consistently. She has been having extreme pain in one leg calf, but personally then I think her level of pain threshold is pretty low. That said, then I once had a lot of pain in my one calf and was told by my chiropractor back then to take some very high levels of Cal-Mag. Since her doctor is not doing anything for her and I doubt she'll go see a chiropractor, then I am trying to help her the best I can.
  4. Jean, this is for a friend with extreme lower leg pain. How much do you suggest she take at first to get rid of the pain? She also gets cramps, so I should probably suggest she eat bananas as well, right?
  5. Hey Karen, So sorry about your father's passing. I have missed you here, though, and am very happy to hear you are back and in full gear. Have a wonderful year.
  6. At this point in my life then my feeling is that I would be very hurt and regretful. We raised our family in isolation from family and it was hard and lonely and a huge regret. Not sure how we could have done it differently as my family lives in a country I did not want to bring dh to (racism and little opportunity) and his family lived in a country that had an oppressive regime so he did not wish to live there. I guess we should have settled for something closer to both Denmark and Syria like perhaps Turkey or a place like Qatar, but we only thought language barriers and then I hate heat so did not want to entertain the Arabian Peninsula. We lived in Japan and then here in the States. Now with the Revolution in Syria, then I can't wait to go back and take care of my mother in law and let my children live with her. Life is short and we missed so much.
  7. For me as a Muslim, then I should pray for everything I want, need, hope for and cherish and for me then I believe all my prayers will be answered albeit not always exactly as I expected or within a specific timeline. Fx. I have had many incidents where one of my children or myself almost had an extreme accident or a near-fatal one and I truly believe that we were spared due to my many prayers for this or that which were sort of in "storage for me". Other prayers will be exquisite surprises waiting for me in the Hereafter and many are answered verbally (as in I get what I asked for or my dilemma gets solved etc.). As I ask for things and wishes, then I strengthen the relationship with my Creator and make it closer as I submit myself.
  8. Congratulations! You are certainly not for old!!
  9. It was me who is the seller and I have been selling and homeschooling and online for 13 years now. I think as homeschooling mothers then we try to not lose too much money after we buy curriculum and then decide to sell it. I have people request the same from me and the issue is not larger than if I am unsure of who they are or if they are new to the forum, then I would not do personal paypal or even send a money order (since many now do not want the issue with checks for which I cannot totally blame them). I have gotten ripped off once for $100 (it might have been the same woman whom people were talking about recently even though it happened 10 years back), but other than that, if I don't feel like sending people my money then this way of doing transactions is just not going to work for me. That's why we have official sellers. Best, Nadia
  10. Well, Denise, you make it sound as if I feel the woman is helpless. I don't. I just cannot wrap my mind around the fact that a man would take physical abuse and not fight back or leave. When a woman is hit by her spouse/partner, then she does not hit back because she feels powerless and physically is weaker than the man so there is a difference in actual power ability, right? I mean, she takes the hit and she is emotionally and psychologically involved and in denial. How can it be the same game for the man? Explain it to me. Are we talking women who are physically very strong or men who are emotionally in denial? I mean, it sounds extreme that a man gets pulled out and beat up (or slapped) as his friend is standing in the next room. What is even weirder is that the friend does not peek out, does not interfere or does anything. If it had been a woman being beat up, then everyone would have gotten furious if witnesses had interfered. I am wondering how truthful the incident is and if it indeed happened how it could happen and how a MAN can get that victimized.
  11. I don't meant to imply that I am blaming the victim. I meant to indicate that it should be pretty straight-forward for a man to walk out. I have to admit I am flabber-gasted that a man who is financially independent (as most men are with the woman usually being the only one who might be without an income etc.) is a victim who cannot walk out and leave such a situation.
  12. Sounds a bit surreal to me. What kind of man is not able to take his car keys and leave? Does he work? Does he have a bank account? I find this pretty weird.
  13. Eliminate dairy from your diet, maybe she is reacting to that. Other than that, keep at it. If you give her a bottle, then she'll learn that food will come without her having to work as hard so she'll definitely refuse the breast.
  14. Hahha, Elf Knitter, this is what we say when it is Eid (after Ramadan). The wishes for Ramadan is that God will accept from us and bestow upon us (light, ease, inspiration etc.).....
  15. Buttery voice, hmmm. Maher Zain (Lebanese, raised in Sweden) Sami Yusuf (Turkish) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhC6rJbwQlM&feature=related Zain Bhika (South Africa), singing about Eid/celebration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDdHkIbPfuw&feature=related
  16. Eman means belief, ibadah is your worship, acts of worship such as prayers, fasting, but also doing good to others, speaking kindly, being a good mother and wife etc. as these show love for God and dua is supplication which is like prayer, but your own informal one.
  17. Thanks, ladies! Your sentiments and experiences made me very happy. We are planning on going to the local mosque for most of the days to break our fast this Ramadan, so lots of yummy food and company and prayers together.
  18. It means Generous Ramadan literally in the hope that God will give and give you and bring you closer to Him during your fasting. Thanks for your caring.
  19. Mashallah, we are so many now! May Allah accept our fast, accept our deeds and intentions and increase our Eman and Ibadah. Please remember the people of Syria in your duas and especially the children who have survived and need to live with this trauma in years to come.
  20. Sounds good. Just ordered it as extra for my writer dd 11 and also pre-ordered book 2.
  21. I am looking for something for dd 11 who loves to write creatively.
  22. I would suggest Boston. The concept of mild winters is sort of relative, hehe, and people have high morals even though most are democrats. It sounds as if TX would fit your bill most, though. As long as you choose a college town, so you can get the real diversity and educated level of people.
  23. The rumor is going around that the president actually got wounded. He left on his airplane and is in a different city, but the rumor is there.... On another note, maniacs with the regime literally began killing women and children and the elderly in shelters in a suburb to Damascus with knives. Please, someone, explain such acts to me? Apparently some got saved as some brave Palestinians in some encaged camps (they have to stay in camps due to no citizenship) got some pick up trucks and drove around and risked their lives getting those people away from the area. I know, it is like out of a horrific movie. Cannot wait for this to be over.
